Nearly two decades after opening in 2005, an international Disney park is now rolling out its most intrusive security measures yet.
Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort have enforced strict security protocols for years, particularly in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. Guests must walk through metal detectors before entering the parks. While bag checks have largely been eliminated thanks to advanced screening technology, Disney security cast members still inspect strollers, mobility devices, and any bags flagged by the metal detectors.
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort’s New Security Measures

While such protocols are routine in the United States, international Disney parks have had more relaxed security procedures—until now. On Thursday, March 13, guests arriving at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort were met with newly installed metal detectors at the entrance, marking the most significant security enhancement in the park’s 19-year history.
According to @hkdisneyreport on Instagram, the park has officially implemented these metal detectors as part of its “enhanced security screening procedure.” The account shared photos of Disney security cast members directing guests through the new process, stating:

On X (formerly Twitter), @DMK_blog shared an official statement from Hong Kong Disneyland Resort regarding the updated security process.
“The safety of our guests and cast members at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL) is at the forefront of everything we do,” a Disney spokesperson said. “We continually evaluate and will make adjustments as needed. Metal detectors have been implemented at Disney resorts around the world, and we are now introducing them as part of the security screening procedures for guests entering Hong Kong Disneyland Park.”
Stricter Security Procedures for Disney Park Guests

Hong Kong Disneyland Park guests now encounter detailed signage outlining the security process, including a list of prohibited items. Instructions are available in multiple languages to accommodate both local and international guests. See photos from @DMK_blog below:
