In just over a year, the Star Wars franchise will return to the big screen for the first time since December 2019. While not much is known about The Mandalorian and Grogu, reports about the cast and characters have been slowly trickling in.

The latest on the film—which was announced in January 2024—relates to Sigourney Weaver’s mystery role, and now fans may know who she is playing in this next New Republic chapter.

A galaxy far, far away is expanding once again, bringing familiar faces and jaw-dropping surprises to the big screen. Among the exciting confirmations, Pedro Pascal returns as the voice of Din Djarin. While Pascal’s presence in The Mandalorian Season 3 was primarily vocal, fans are left wondering if the actor will suit up in that iconic Beskar armor once more for this cinematic adventure.

Legendary actress Sigourney Weaver—currently captivating audiences in The Tempest on London’s West End—has officially joined the Star Wars universe. Weaver herself couldn’t contain her excitement about meeting Grogu and diving into the galaxy’s rich lore, teasing fans with what’s to come. In August 2024, she told Deadline about her experience on the set of Favreau’s movie.

“I’m playing a role in The Mandalorian [and] Grogu [which will be directed by Jon Favreau],” she told the outlet. “I got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day. I’m filming that before I go to London for The Tempest at the end of the year.”

The legendary science-fiction actress added: “I’m looking forward to it. I can’t say much about it right now, but it’s fun to bounce between all these different universes.”

Now, a new report has surfaced, leaking the name of Weaver’s character. According to Jeff Sneider, AKA The Insneider, via Comic Book Movie, Weaver’s character will be called Colonel Bishop.

This has yet to be confirmed by The Walt Disney Company or Lucasfilm, but if true, then it could mean that Colonel Bishop will be a new antagonist for the iconic duo. Weaver was previously reported to be playing a villain in The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Weaver isn’t the only big name attached to Favreau’s movie. Shameless and The Bear star Jeremy Allen White is reportedly stepping into the role of Rotta the Hutt— Jabba’s estranged son. First introduced in The Clone Wars (2008) and affectionately nicknamed “Stinky,” Rotta hasn’t made an appearance since the animated series.

And that’s not all. Dave Filoni’s Embo, the fan-favorite Kyuzo bounty hunter from The Clone Wars, is potentially one of the movie’s primary antagonists. As reported earlier this month: “Embo will be a ‘pretty significant part of the plot,’ as the story focuses on Din and Grogu being hired to rescue the kidnapped Rotta from Embo.”

For fans of The Clone Wars, this news will be a welcome surprise. Embo’s transition to live-action marks another thrilling chapter in Star Wars storytelling, promising an epic adventure that bridges the beloved animated series with the live-action saga.

Looking ahead, movies from James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Shawn Levy, Patty Jenkins, and Simon Kinberg are all supposedly in the works, although no new release dates have been confirmed. In fact, it was only a few months ago that Disney replaced its December 2026 Star Wars slot with 20th Century Studios’ Ice Age 6.
