Back in 2022, the entertainment industry—ABC in particular—was rocked to its core when it was revealed that one of the writers on ABC’s hit show Grey’s Anatomy had been suspended following an internal investigation. Elisabeth Finch, who not only served as a writer on the show for eight years, but also as a producer, was being accused of lying about having cancer.

Ms. Finch used her cancer diagnosis as a storyline on Grey’s Anatomy, and even wrote about her hardships and experiences for major publications like The Hollywood Reporter and Elle.

However, it was apparently not her story to tell, but her wife’s. And when her wife discovered what she was doing, the two quickly found themselves headed for divorce. And before the internal investigation could even begin, Finch resigned from the show and admitted that she lied about her health.

Since then, she has largely remained out of the limelight and has not worked on a major Hollywood project. But she is now back in the headlines and being called out by those who remember her lies and the damage they caused.

If you have been watching the news, then you know that Los Angeles has been dealing with devastating wildfires for nearly two weeks. There have been hundreds of billions of dollars in damage, thousands of homes and businesses have been destroyed, and more than 25 people have died.

On January 16, Finch’s fellow Grey’s Anatomy producer Jamie Denbo found a post by Finch. Finch said that she was in Los Angeles and had been evacuated because of the fires. She shared her Venmo account information and told people that they could send money to her, and she would buy essentials that other evacuees needed.

“This is just me. Boots on the ground. It was challenging enough getting dog food while evacuated and I was at a safe place. So this is for people who have virtually nothing and have pets with basic needs.”

Debno was absolutely disgusted by the post and reminded people what Finch had done.

This person is a SCAMMER and a LIAR. It is well documented in the @peacock series #anatomyoflies! Unless you want to send her donations of 69 cents for her “cancer treatment” (she doesn’t have cancer) or perhaps “in memory of her late brother”(he’s alive) or anything else she has lied about (everything) DO NOT DONATE to Elisabeth Finch!!

The Hollywood Reporter reached out to both Ms. Denbo and Ms. Finch, both of whom issued comments.

Ms. Finch defended her post, saying that she knew what she had done in the past was wrong, but she is trying to make amends.

“I recognize, given my history, people might be skeptical of my fundraising efforts. I’m trying to make amends in as many ways I can, including helping my community — especially during these difficult times. So many organizations are calling for gift cards because they are overwhelmed with physical donations, and I didn’t want peoples’ pet needs to get lost in the shuffle.”

However, Ms. Denbo does not believe that Ms. Finch has changed her ways. She thinks that the former writer is still using tragedies to scam people out of their hard-earned money.

“Elisabeth continues to scam, deceive and produce incredible material for comedians like myself to use and mock her relentlessly. I can’t thank her enough! (For just the last thing.) Keep it up, Finch!”

Sadly, being deceptive about having a rare bone cancer was not the only lie Ms. Finch told her colleagues. She also reportedly lied about having an abortion, losing a kidney, and being close to some people affected by the 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, which she said gave her PTSD.

Ms. Finch has apologized more than once, but her ex-wife, Jennifer Beyer, did not believe that she showed any real remorse.

Do you think Ms. Finch is sorry for what she did? Should she be fundraising for those affected by the wildfires? Or is this just another one of her scams? Share your thoughts in the comments!
