Things are not looking so great for Disney’s live-action Snow White remake with the upcoming film’s most recent trailer amassing a shocking number of dislikes on YouTube. At the time of publication, the official trailer for Snow White has reached more than 700k dislikes on the platform, a staggering number considering the star power and budget behind the upcoming film.
In contrast, the trailer has just 29k likes. While shocking on their own, these numbers tell a rather sour story about what Disney likely hopes will be its next big film. With a total view count of 5.8 million, nearly one-eighth of those who watched the trailer disliked it.
Even more shocking is the short amount of time the trailer reached these figures, with Disney releasing the official Snow White trailer just a little over a week ago, on December 3, 2024.

Disney’s plans to give its iconic Snow White fairytale a live-action twist date back to 2016, which makes sense considering the company had been diving deeper into the format around this time. Over the following years, Disney would continue to develop the film, finding its Snow White in Rachel iegler.
Zegler was confirmed to play Disney’s first animated princess in 2021, a casting choice that seemed quite promising. The young actress is no stranger to blockbusters or musicals, starring in films like Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remake in 2021 and the Hunger Games spinoff film The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in 2023.
Zegler is undeniably a talented actress, though her comments about Snow White, both the character and the film, proved to be quite controversial and off-putting. Zegler made a number of rather blunt and surprising comments regarding both Disney’s original Snow White film and the company’s upcoming remake.
The actress stated her version of the princess would be much more than just another damsel in distress, going as far as to joke about not including a prince in the live-action remake. She also stated the original Snow White film was extremely dated and promised her new retelling would usher in Disney’s Snow White into the modern era.

Disney endured a similar firestorm of controversy last year surrounding the release of its Little Mermaid remake, though the film still went on to become a box office success.
While some fans were not happy to see yet another classic Disney film get remade in live-action form, the backlash with this iteration of The Little Mermaid had a lot more to do with Ariel herself, Halle Bailey.
An accomplished artist and performer, Halle Bailey made a name for herself over the last several years, releasing music both solo and with her sister Chloe. Due to Bailey’s African American heritage, controversy immediately struck following the news of her being cast as Ariel.
Disney’s original Little Mermaid is about as pale-skinned as they come, but who’s to say the company can’t shake things up? After all, the most interesting parts of Disney’s live-action remakes are what the company chooses to do differently than the original, with Halle Bailey pulling off an incredible portrayal of Ariel.
The Little Mermaid was released last year to resounding box office success, though the film trailed in comparison to Disney’s massive 2019 Lion King remake.
It’s unknown how Disney’s live-action Snow White remake will pan out, though considering the company’s track record, these initial negative reactions will most likely not represent the general moviegoing public.
Disney’s Snow White releases on March 21, 2025.
