According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Majors is primed for a 2025 comeback, with his latest film, Magazine Dreams, landing a Spring release date. The upcoming film, which sees Majors portray amateur bodybuilder Killian Maddox, will hit theaters on March 21, 2025, following a rather tumultuous marketing cycle.

Magazine Dreams dazzled at Sundance in 2023, eventually being scooped up by Searchlight in a bidding war. However, the company dropped the project entirely after Marjos’ assault and harassment conviction involving his former partner Grace Jabbari.

Magazine Dreams wasn’t the only thing assumed to be lost in the fire. Majors was fired from his role as Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a character that was shaping up to be one of the studio’s most important since Josh Brolin’s galaxy-erasing Thanos.

Majors appeared in both Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) and the Disney+ original series Loki. Kang was even going to have an entire Avengers film named after him, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which would have hit theaters in 2026.

All plans involving Kang have seemingly been scrapped, and Marvel is taking an entirely different approach to its upcoming slate of Avengers films.

While Marvel may be done with the actor, Majors will still get a chance to shine in 2025 with Magazine Dreams.

Majors’ acting chops have never been refuted, with THR chief film critic David Rooney praising the actor’s performance in Magazine Dreams, saying, “the magnificence of Majors’ work exploring the physical, mental and spiritual anguish of a person caught in the helpless grip of a singular obsession—arguably America’s defining obsession with celebrity and success—cruelly destined to remain out of reach.”

Magazine Dreams coincidentally hits theaters the same day as Disney’s live-action Snow White remake, which is also embroiled in controversy due to its main star, Rachel Zegler, though for entirely different reasons.

Jonathan Majors was arrested in March of 2023 for assaulting his ex-partner Grace Jabari, eventually being found guilty of two misdemeanor counts. Majors served in a year-long domestic violence program and was also sued by Jabbari.

Jabbari sued Majors for defamation, as well as assault and battery, claiming her former partner had a “pattern of domestic abuse” that began sometime in 2021. The charges were dropped with prejudice by Jabbari in November 2024.

The actor certainly acts as a huge “what if?” for Marvel Studios, with the company essentially placing all its eggs in a Jonathan Majors-shaped basket, only for plans to completely fall apart a year later. While Marvel may have been planning to bring back both Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, these announcements felt more like reactions to Majors’ untimely exit rather than completely original and authentic approaches to the continuation of the MCU.

Marvel’s next film, Captain America: Brave New World, will be released on February 14, 2025, marking a new era for both the MCU and Captain America’s role.
