There are a lot of big things happening in the wizarding world lately: the upcoming HBO series is on the lookout for new stars to replace the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint; there are new Harry Potter-themed areas (Ministry of Magic and Place Cachée) set to open at the all-new Universal Epic Universe in Universal Studios Orlando next May; and, last but not least, Warner Bros. has confirmed that there’s a sequel to the open-world game “Hogwarts Legacy” in development.
But while all of this news is worthy of the front page of the Daily Prophet, it makes it easy to overlook some of the smaller new additions to the Harry Potter franchise.
Enter “Christmas at Hogwarts,” a wonderful, spellbinding new storybook set over the Holidays during JK Rowling’s first novel, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” (AKA “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”). And it might just be one of the most magical additions yet.

From Scholastic and Bloomsbury, readers can now experience Harry Potter’s first-ever Christmas inside the magical castle walls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, as seen in both the book and the 2001 film directed by Chris Columbus, told through text lifted from Rowling’s novel and luminous illustrations from Beijing-born illustrator Ziyi Gao.
“Christmas was coming. One morning in mid-December, Hogwarts woke to find itself covered in several feet of snow,” the official synopsis on Bloomsbury reads.
“So begins Chapter 12 of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the story of Harry Potter’s magical first Christmas at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. From the wonder of the Great Hall decked with sparkling, decorated fir trees to cosy evenings by the fire in the Gryffindor common room and the joy of opening presents on Christmas morning, it’s a school holiday filled with warmth, friendship, treats and magical surprises that Harry will never forget.”

Of course, the new book isn’t the only way to experience Christmas at Hogwarts this year. If you live in the UK, you might still have time to purchase a ticket to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London — The Making of Harry Potter, where you can relive the magic of the films behind the scenes.
Or, why not cozy up at home with a warm butterbeer and enjoy the first three films in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), all of which are Christmas movies in their own right (the same goes for the three books).
“Christmas at Hogwarts” is a spellbinding treat sure to enrapture fans of the Harry Potter franchise looking to cozy up with a particularly festive entry. You can grab a copy now from all several major online retailers.
