Seems for this series to continue there will have to be a new Dr Jones much like James Bond. The series will survive without Ford as did Bond with Connery departing.
James Bond was a literary character before Connery, who wasn’t even the first actor to play him. Indy’s appeal is way more reliant on Ford’s unique brand of charm, smarts, physicality, and grumpiness.
A better comparison would be the recasting of Captain Kirk, which has happened twice now. Debatable how well that was pulled off, but Chris Pine led three films to big box office and Paul Wesley is not facing an enormous blowback on TV. Whether their legacy outlives William Shatner’s is anyone’s guess.
You could bring up Han Solo, but the Solo prequel was a flop, so that’s a bigger question mark.
