It’s been a tough couple of years for Disney fans. They’ve been beaten down by mediocre movies, rising prices, and few new attractions at Disney’s domestic parks.

When Disney fans have gotten new attractions, they’ve been underwhelming, to say the least. Fans were thrilled when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened at the Magic Kingdom, but constant ride malfunctions and frequent evacuations dampened their enthusiasm.
Fans waited years for the EPCOT transformation to be completed, but when CommuniCore Hall opened, it was compared to a college dining hall and the “saddest” Target on Earth.
The Walt Disney Company has announced dozens of new attractions and lands coming to Disney World, but they’ve had to sacrifice beloved attractions in order to get them.
With plenty of room to expand Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom, Disney instead chose to remove Muppet Vision 3D, Tom Sawyer Island, and Rivers of America to make way for the new Villains Land, Cars Land, and Monsters, Inc. Land.

Meanwhile, Disney fans look across Orlando and see that Universal Studios is about to open one of the coolest theme parks in Epic Universe, and they wonder when Disney will come up with something like that.
Given all this, it’s no wonder Disney fans are down in the dumps. They are so down that they will believe most stories about Disney removing something that only has aesthetic value and offers no financial incentive.
So, when a user on X posted that the mural outside of Spaceship Earth had been removed, Disney fans jumped on this as another example of the company removing a beloved set piece that has no financial upside. However, removing the mural, which has been on the ride since it opened in 1981, is entirely false.
Can’t believe they removed the mural at Spaceship Earth! This is a complete travesty. #EPCOT #WaltDisneyWorld pic.twitter.com/EJAVpcYHl7

The mural depicts a brief history of communication, from cavemen writing on walls to satellites in space. However, a closer examination of the doctored photo clearly shows that it has been altered to make the mural disappear.
However, the larger story is that some Disney fans in the comments believed the company had removed the mural. After all, this is the company that removed the Fountain of Nations and replaced it with open space and limited shade. There is also the statue of Walt Disney that makes him look like he’s on the toiled.

What is clear from this post and its reaction is that Disney has a PR problem with some of its biggest fans. They are willing to believe that Disney would remove anything, including key pieces of opening day attractions, that only have aesthetic value.
So, for Disney fans out there, you dodged a bullet at Spaceship Earth this time.
