The new live-action movie from The Walt Disney Company is already raising eyebrows as the Mouse House attempts to wrangle its turbulent remake canon.
Just under a month ago, Deadline reported that a live-action Prince Charming movie was in the works at Disney, with Paddington and Wonka director Paul King attached to bring the character to life on the big screen in a new way.
“After helping bring the Paddington franchise and a new Willy Wonka movie to life, director Paul King has his sights set on another iconic character,” the outlet reported. “Sources tell Deadline that King has come on to direct a new Prince Charming movie at Disney. Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker are co-writing along with King.”
Not long after, reports circulated claiming that movie star Chris Hemsworth, who gained international recognition playing Thor in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, was “in talks” to star as the lead Prince Charming character in the yet-to-be-titled movie.
According to Deadline‘s insiders, the Prince Charming movie will not be connected to the Cinderella mythos. While some initially rejoiced at Chris Hemsworth’s rumored role as Disney’s latest Prince Charming, new information has tarnished the potential casting of the superhero star.
New reports claim that Normal People‘s Daisy Edgar-Jones is being tapped to play the princess character in Paul King’s recently announced movie. According to Jeff Sneider, the Hollywood insider and creator of InSneider, Edgar-Jones will be playing opposite Chris Hemsworth’s Prince Charming.
Film Updates (@FilmUpdates) recollected Sneider’s scoop:
Daisy Edgar-Jones is being eyed to star in Paul King’s ‘PRINCE CHARMING’ movie for Disney alongside Chris Hemsworth.

Disney fans were quick to point out one big issue with the potential casting of Daisy Edgar-Jones–her age. The Twisters (2024) star is 26 years old, while Chris Hemsworth turned 41 this year. @chxriks wrote:

At this moment, The Walt Disney Company’s live-action production arm, Walt Disney Pictures, has not yet confirmed any casting for the Prince Charming movie. However, if the Hemsworth and Edgar-Jones duo reports are to be true, the Mouse House will once again face an uphill battle when it comes to its adaptations.
Next up for Disney’s live-action canon will be Barry Jenkins’ prequel to 2019’s The Lion King, Mufasa: The Lion King (2024). Following that, the much-talked-about Disney’s Snow White will debut in March, a year after it was originally planned to be released. Further afield, the live-action take on 2016’s Moana will drop in 2026. Dwayne Johnson is returning to play the demigod Maui.
