I have said previously that I believe WDW would be best served by using “Reflections” as a cast member resort. That means that the cast members that are presently living in their cars will have a permanent place to reside. They would be charged 10% of their monthly salary that would cover their room and utilities. This would resolve several problems at once. The first would be the affordable housing shortage in the Orlando area. Another one would be the perception that the Disney Company actually CARES for its employees. This would go a long way at insuring a steady workforce for the forceable future. The cost would be bearable and the accommodations would first rate. There would be a need for rules and regulations to cover what the residents could and could not do with their accommodations, but that could be easily worked out. The rooms would need to be more than just a bedroom or a place to just sleep. And parking spaces would need to be added for permanent residents. Long term residency could lead to the ownership of the property. But again, that is for the future. In the short term, it would supply hundreds of low-cost housing for cast members and fill a vital need.
It is just an idea, but it could prove to be a vital asset for the Disney Company for the future of its employee base.
