Dongpo Kitchen at Universal CityWalk Hollywood has closed its doors for good, Inside Universal reports. The eatery specialized in Chinese cuisine, offering Universal guests several exciting and delicious flavors.

While Universal Studios may be a theme park, there are still plenty of fun activities and experiences for guests who don’t want to spend all day riding intense roller coasters or immersive dark rides. This is where CityWalk comes into play, offering guests dozens of shopping and culinary experiences in a vibrant outdoor setting.

Both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood feature their own versions of CityWalk, inviting guests to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks.

CityWalk features some of the world’s biggest and most popular brands, stores, and restaurants, encouraging guests to taste and sample everything from savory dishes to sweet treats.

However, CityWalk enters a new chapter with the closure of Dongpo Kitchen.

Dongpo Kitchen closed on September 5, 2024. The contemporary Chinese eatery opened in 2016 and had become a go-to spot for those looking to break out of the standard theme park fare of fried chicken, french fries, burgers, and hot dogs.

Dongpo Kitchen’s closure has not been officially confirmed by Universal, though the restaurant’s official page on the Hollywood resort website has been taken down. Dongpo Kitchen also did not answer any calls made to the eatery by reporters.

Dongpo Kitchen’s closure was first shared by reliable Universal news source Inside Universal, which revealed the news on Twitter/X.

Both CityWalk Hollywood and CityWalk Orlando locations offer a similar experience, allowing guests to enjoy an early coffee before their day at the parks or a late night drink with friends. From food and snacks to movies and live entertainment, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at Universal CityWalk.

It’s unknown why Dongpo Kitchen closed or what will replace it, but this is far from the only example of changes at CityWalk. Over the last several years, guests have watched as several other CityWalk locations have closed down.

The same can be said for Downtown Disney, Disneyland’s outdoor shopping and dining center, with several locations closing permanently in recent months.

The resort recently filed a permit to demolish Tortilla Joe’s, a fan-favorite Downtown Disney location.

Plenty of things are changing inside Universal Studios Hollywood itself, with the theme park currently building a brand-new thrill ride based on the ever-popular Fast and the Furious franchise.

This new ride, called Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift, will be a roller coaster and will take guests on a wild and intense journey, likely placing them in the middle of an exhilarating race.
