Background on Previous Tumbler Sellouts

The previous year witnessed both releases of The Nightmare Before Christmas tumblers selling out in a flash. Collectors and fans experienced frustration as they rushed to secure their purchases, only to find themselves empty-handed. The anticipation for this year’s release was high, leading many to predict a similar situation would unfold.

To counteract last year’s challenges, consumers were encouraged to prepare for a potential virtual queue ahead of its 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET release, ensuring they were well-positioned to purchase the coveted item upon its availability.

Starbucks Controversy

Starbucks has long been embroiled in controversy surrounding pay and working conditions. However, October 2023 brought the coffee corporation more trouble when it seemingly supported Israel during the ongoing conflict between the country and Palestine.

“…in late October, after Starbucks sued the union for a social media post expressing “solidarity” with Palestinians, the dispute landed it in the middle of debates over Israel’s war in Gaza, sparking global boycott calls that took on a life of their own,” the BBC wrote.

In January, the boycott action gained steam on social media platforms like TikTok, with many of Starbucks’ former consumers opting to head elsewhere for their coffee needs.

“Bank of America analyst Sara Senatore says she had initially been skeptical that the boycott would have a major impact, but other causes seemed insufficient to explain such a sudden and severe sales drop, noting that the firm’s price hikes do not stand out from their competitors,” the report continued.
