It’s not a retcon,. Their using the multi-verse angle top bring back RDJ as a different version so instead of becoming the hero he remains a villain. The backstory will not be this is Stark from an alternative universe who went bad but it will be Victor Von Doom played by the same human who in the original MCU Earth portrayed Stark. In the real worlds no doubt you or someone you know has talked about having seen their doppelganger; a completely different person who just happens to look like they could be your twin. Victor Von Doom will be Tony Starks Doppelganger from another universe. What would be really cool is if they also have RDJ play Tony Stark from yet another alternate Earth who helps the surviving Avengers on Earth prime defeat this Victor Von Doom
