When Disney released its classic animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, it changed the film industry. The movie was the first full-length animated feature film, and it cemented Snow White as one of the most popular princesses of all time. Since then, Disney has brought a number of princesses to life, including Cinderella (1950), Sleeping Beauty (1959), The Little Mermaid (1989), The Princess and the Frog (2009), Tangled (2010), and more.

For years, Disney has been turning some of its most popular animated films into live-action stories. In 2016, Disney announced that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs would be getting the same treatment. Now, live-action remakes have become a point of contention among Disney fans.
However, the amount of controversy surrounding the live-action Snow White blows the rest out of the water.

Now, a lot of the trouble began when Disney cast West Side Story (2021) actress, Rachel Zegler. Zegler is part Polish and part Colombian, leading to some incredibly racist attacks against her. However, even those who defended her casting have come to criticize Disney and Zegler after some troubling comments.
Multiple times, Zegler has criticized the original story of Snow White. She has said that her Snow White will be a more progressive character and take action, instead of letting things happen to her. She has also attacked the prince, saying that he might not even be necessary to tell the story. Zegler even went so far as to refer to him as a “stalker”.

The actress has apologized for her comments, but that has not stopped people from constantly attacking the movie. And now, fans are up in arms once again, after new footage was leaked onto X (formerly Twitter).
X user Nina Infinity shared some footage of Snow White, which appeared to be filmed at Disney’s D23 Expo. It featured Snow White singing and dancing with the dwarves in their cottage. However, instead of being impressed with what she saw, Nina was taken aback, and so were those who commented on the post.

Commenters were shocked and disappointed in the direction that Disney decided to go with the dwarves. The seven men appeared to be completely CGI, instead of Disney casting real actors in the roles.
Why not hire actors with dwarfism to play the dwarves? Also, they went out of their way to get an actress of color just to cover her in makeup and make her look white?

Some also called out Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage. Dinklage had been critical of Disney’s decision to remake the movie, saying that it was offensive to those with dwarfism, which he has. Some felt that, because of his criticism, Disney steered away from casting actual actors to play Doc, Grumpy, Sneezy, Dopey, Bashful, Happy, and Sleepy.
That looks awful. Is this what Peter Dinklage wanted? Only thing he achieved was making sure 7 little people didn’t get a job or even their big break.

Many commenters also compared the animation style to The Polar Express. The Christmas movie was released in 2004 and received a ton of criticism for its animation style, which many thought looked off.
This is a hideous nightmare. The dwarves look worse than the characters in Polar Express.
Of course, many commenters thought that the footage just reinforces their belief that Snow White will flop at the box office. The movie was originally supposed to be released on March 22, 2024. However, last October, Disney announced that the film was being pushed back by one year. It is now slated to be released on March 21, 2025.

In addition to Rachel Zegler, Snow White will also star Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, Andrew Burnap as Jonathan, AKA The Prince, and Ansu Kabia will portray the Huntsman.
