The Monorail is perhaps the most iconic way to navigate the Disney theme parks and can be found at numerous Disney resorts worldwide. Disneyland’s original Monorail service began in 1959, with the Walt Disney World Monorail debuting the same day as the rest of the resort in October of 1971.

Due to the sheer size of the Walt Disney World Resort, the Monorail is much more helpful than its California counterpart, taking guests to and from the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT theme parks and a slew of resort hotels.

However, the Tokyo Disney Resort in Japan also features its own Monorail service, with the resort unveiling a new way to experience the high-speed train service ahead of the retirement of one of its cars later this year.

The Tokyo Disney Resort has announced that guests will be able to privately charter one of the six-car resort liner formations. Tickets will be distributed via a lottery system, and advanced reservations are required.

The Monorail charter tickets are priced at ¥ $42,000 per pair (tax included), which is roughly $264 USD. The lottery reservations must have a minimum of one rider and a maximum of six riders.

Children taking a spin on this new private Monorail experience will receive hats similar to the ones worn by Disney Monorail cast members.

In addition, guests can also charter private runs on the Type X resort liner for ¥50,000 yen per pair, or $315 USD. The same rules apply to this experience.

These tickets allow guests to enjoy one final Type X resort liner run before its closure later this year in September. One car will be reserved for each group, and guests will be able to board the gateway station in a special place once the last train has left.

Times vary for both of these experiences, with each ride lasting around 30 minutes. It’s important to note that guests cannot disembark at any of the stations.
