Severely Disabled Guest Reveals Shocking DAS Denial

Comments for Severely Disabled Guest Reveals Shocking DAS Denial

A woman in a wheelchair is being joyfully pushed by another woman in a turquoise swimsuit at a water park. Both women are smiling as bubbles fill the cheerful air, while children play in the background. Their laughter exemplifies the inclusive fun similar to what you’d find with a Disney disability pass.

Actually, we spoke with guest relations at Disney and Universal and Universal is actually being sued as we speak for breach of HIPPA. The fact that they ask for documents and then the card that ibcess gives you, contains your medical history and Universal informed us that they will more than likely be forced to discontinue that process. Maybe they’ll go Disney’s route. Doesn’t seem to be working for either one of them.

HIPAA doesn’t apply to theme parks.

      1. Hi i am anxiety

Actually it applies anywhere i know i am a psych. But uni is being suied for going aganist disability act and doc /patient confientiality which is way worse than hippa. I as a psych would never give out this info i could loose my job. And a reg dr is not clear to give out mental health notes esp not to a theme park.

You may be a psych, but you’re wrong about HIPAA…it applies to medical or other covered entities providing your medical information to other persons or entities without your permission. And since that isn’t happening with Universal’s process, it isn’t a HIPAA violation.

I don’t see any reason why she can’t just wait in the line…and if she needs to wait outside the line, she discusses that she comes with multiple people, so someone can wait with her while the rest wait in the line.

No reason she should have a DAS.

      You’re a total trash person

I pray you never need assistance in the future as not all disabilities are visible. I personally have extreme medical issues that looking at me you will never see but could drop out in a que and never wake up from. WDW changing all DAS to only Autism is ridiculous as many parents came this to avoid the lines as well so their spoiled children can get what they want. I understand there are some truly that have issues but only using that as a guide is foolish and idiotic.

      1. JustMe

DAS is not being issued only for autism, keep up. If you have extreme medical issues, then make the call and explain your needs. NOT your diagnoses, your NEEDS.

And I’m still waiting for someone to explain to me why they believe this girl can’t wait in a line or wait outside the line by herself and join her party when it’s time to ride.

Some peoples compassion is absolutely underwhelming.

    1. JustMe

So what are here needs that prevent her from waiting in the line?

      1. Hugh Jassole

Sounds like someone is totally jealous that they have to wait in line while others don’t…you know because they can’t walk or breath on their own. I’m sure they would change places with you and let you be confined to a disability!

        1. JustMe

She has a mobility device, so that takes care of the “they can’t walk” and the ventilator takes care of the breathing, so again, what need does she have that can only be met by waiting outside of the line?

I like your name…fits you perfectly.

The managers all have this notion and its pretty evident the people whom complain were the ones taking advantage of the pass. Most folks whom do not like the new system complain on the internet to the world vs actually giving a complaint straight to wdw. This person is like the dumb das denfenders scam. Wdw knows about these folks. You know what you got lucky you found a nice whom gave you das but people took advantage of that kindness! Please do not expect all the people whom use das like humans all these yrs to pay bc you cannot use it. Disney has come across w some doozy like LL and virtual queues they are trying to rectify… but you know what back in the day everyone waited all on one queue lines werent hrs long bc there was only 1 line! Also no one paid for perks like LL etc. FP worked bc people had to return correctly and a timeframe. Oh and everyone got on the ride no oh we are sorry no more virtual queues but the cms sit bored half the time bc of em and send out rides wo people in em when we could clearly have a line! My heart goes out to all the REAL DAS users that have to suffer a line thanks to it being LL now!
Oh btw to all those of you whom mention uni etc they are getting suied not for just going aganist hippa, but disablity act, and doc patient confidentality!
If anyone has it straight its hershey w their questionaire alt entrance.

The solution is simple. STOP GOING 2 DISNEY. CUT DISNEY OUT OF YOUR LIFE FOR GOOD

New rule how about we go back to the way things were 1 line and everyone waits! Guess what happen back then lines werent hrs… LL was na so you didnt have to pay… there was no extra line just wc which the reg line didnt even know about till you got to the front… And take this virtual queues everyone got to enjoy the rides and get on them! Yes you had to wait boo hoo but you enjoyed yourself no apps no extra fees etc. Just a happy vacation something could be said for all this!
And the only disablity pass not in trouble or has never had a complaint ours at hershey (gardens uses similar q&a oh and guess what you stay in our system no need to rehash issues months later).

Many people don’t understand how difficult Daily life can be Living with a disability. The Disney environment it’s even worse and not enjoyable. The DAS for many made it tolerable so their families they were with can enjoy the park like everyone else. If you don’t live with a life threatening illness or life altering disability then you don’t know. Everything is more difficult to do if you can even do it and life is more expensive in general. It feels like a punishment when we have to pay extra money to be able to enjoy with the general public does without having the need for accommodations. It has definitely made much of Disneys experience unaccessible too many with disabilities. There is so much that is already unaccessible to people who have additional needs. It definitely shows Disneys true motives and that’s to make money not happiness. They have truly went against their own standards to be all inclusive.

    1. JustMe

No one is making the disabled pay more money for access, since other, non-DAS accommodations are being offered. The fact that people don’t like the other accommodations is irrelevant – Disney isn’t under any obligation to provide desired accommodations.
