Spoiler: Some whiny b!tch baby got mad at DEI and got his flip buddies to form a massive hate campaign against the show and their actors under the idea the show had “bad writing” all while review bombing it even before episode 1 premiered.

    1. Currently watching Brooklyn 99 it's pretty good

I have not yet had a chance to watch the show so I can’t speak to the validity of the negative reviews.

However, according to the Rotten Tomatoes website FAQ the audience can’t leave reviews before the show is released.

“Rotten Tomatoes users can only leave audience reviews and User Ratings following a movie’s U.S. release date, as listed on our site. Verified Reviews are available for movies in the U.S. that were released after May 23, 2019 – the date we added this feature.”

So your judgement of the reviews is as fake as you claim them to be.

No, the show is just very poor, with clunky writing and terrible acting

The show doesn’t respect the fans or the lore. Disney can try to blame it on toxic fans all it wants but it can’t fix bad writing. The cast is perfectly fine, the sexual orientation of the characters is fine, the locations are great..but the story… the theme of it all is fine but the execution was just plain terrible. Not watching past episode 3.

It seems to me that a lot of overly sensitive comic-book-guys started talking to each other because god knows they don’t know any women, and complained about a fairly creative take on a new version of Star Wars. If they didn’t change things around a bit the story line would die out and Disney/Lucas would drop it because it’s not making any money. I would stop with the complaints or get involved with making things better, and I mean that about everything.

How many have you choked down?

And that is when they review bomb the right show. Look at what they did to the movie Acolyte. Personally, I think The Acolyte is one of the best Star Wars projects to come out of Disney

    1. Steamboat Willie

They can’t even review bomb the right Acolyte. They also bombed Acolytes and the Star Wars fan film of the same name. And we’re supposed to take them seriously… 😅

According to the comments, it seems like your usual readers don’t agree with the fan reviews. Regardless of the initial review bombing, this show is undeniably bad. The production looks cheap, the dialogue is poor, and the story is poorly written. Additionally, the controversial aspects feel unnecessary only to address a tiny portion of the populations inclusion concerns. With such a budget, the show should at least look high-quality. We know they can do better. Perhaps

Lol no one is surprised, it’s cringe trash writing and acting. Nothing makes sense it’s just horrible. I guess the force is really male they confirmed by having the force knock up some female witch so at least there is that 😂

    1. Steamboat Willie

“The Force is Female” had nothing to do with Star Wars, but was in fact Nike. I doubt you even watched the thing so you can’t be talking about “cringe trash writing or acting.”

Story is ok for space opera, production is expected for the budget & being streamed. Honestly I think the execs wanted to hop on the Dune bandwagon: it’s gain a lot of trending this year w/its “sisterhood” storylines: though its a critical part of the books. Mind the kazillion Dune spin offs now in the works (coupled with HBO magic…. should be good) as WB execs attempt to ignite a Star Wars-like franchise.

Looking at WB’s efforts, Dune would have been perfect for Disney’s DEI stuff aside from throwing in a non-fan show runner (would have been fine as Dune’s books are confusing). Instead they’re trying to keep up by using the Star Wars franchise, and it just.doesn’t.work. Total misfire.

I’m a huge Star Wars Fan and Acolyte is a wasted opportunity.
Not liking the most of the cast, extremely short episodes, average acting skills, such a basic boring plot and nearno action. The best character killed in the first 5m mins, the awesome Wookie Jedi also taken out. How basic can a storyline get, just wipe out all the jedi, wow, such a simple plot. The Old Republic should be fresh, new, exciting, different to what we have seen before, yet it’s much the same and boring to watch, so dissatisfied.

    Loved Rogue One.
    Loved Solo.
Loved Andor for being different, can’t wait for the next season.
    Enjouyed The Madalorian .
    Loved Asoka.
    Loved Obi-Wan Kenobi.

This is the worst of the lot by a huge margin. Get the Rogue one director back please and The real George Lucas to have SOLID INPUT.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I respect yours. In my opinion, the show was okay to average but it could have potential to turn itself around as we’ve only made it four episodes in.

Love Star Wars, loved Rogue One, Loved even Solo ( so underrated, needs a sequel ), Loved Andor ( Brilliant acting, great cast, great story )

Loved also Mando ( alittle bored of Grogu thou, we certainly don’t need a movie to repeat the TV series ). Loved Ahsoka, Loved Obi-Wan ( needs a series 2).

Acolyte should have been huge, the old republic should be, new, exciting, fresh, different to what we have seen in all the other series, movies etc. This is a different time, so should be very different, yet we have much the same.

The cast is very average, The main Jedi Master Sol is great, the rest of the Jedi are poorly cast, below average acting, Indara was Awesome for the 5mins or less she was alive, killing the best characters so quickly is such a poor choice, the Jedi Wookie character was new and exciting, yet killed again before even having a battle, another poor choice.

30min shows, please, this is so disappointing. At least 45 mins per episode, at least 12 episodes

Sadly this is by far the worst of all the series and its such a wasted opportunity to bring a fresh new chapter in the Old Republic Era. I have no idea how they can create such a badly written storyline with one of the most basic plots, kill all the jedi, come on, these writers and directors are paid so much money and come up with this?

My rating is a 3 out of 10 from a very dedicated Star Wars Fan. Star Wars fans want Action, Action, Action, Battles, NEW sets, new environments, new costumes, new everything.

    NEXT please.

  7. Spank You Very Much

The “review bombing” theory being promoted by others here seems to make sense, since that 14% rating comes from the audience side only, while the critic score is currently 85%. It’s suspicious how wide that gap is. I intend to binge-watch this for myself once more episodes have been released and then form my own opinion.

    1. Kelly Connerton

There are so many movies that were fan favorites that the critics panned and so many movies the critics loved and bombed because audiences didnt.

    2. KatayaS

It’s not suspicious at all. There’s a huge swath of activist critics these days, and if a product aligns to their world view, it automatically gets a good score. This isn’t a recent trend, it’s been happening for over a decade now, and gaming review sites are plagued with similar political activists. End result is that quality and entertainment value come second to the “message”. There’s also literal shills who get perks for positive reviews, that’s been a problem among critics since forever.
That’s not to say audience scores aren’t and can’t be manipulated or that people have knee jerk reactions to perceived “woke” content, but the people in the entertainment industry need to address fan concerns about the poor quality and divisive crap they insert into their products instead of doubling down on the very things that are clearly driving their core fans away.

    3. schillenger

What’s the opposite of ‘review bombing’? I’m honestly curious. Whatever that is it’s what critics are doing. I don’t mind The Acolyte that much but then again I like the movie Waterworld…. which isn’t a good movie by a long shot.

    4. Forgot to hit the save my name for next time button

The main issue I have with the review bombing theory is that the first talking point they go to is the reviews were left before the first episode aired. However according to Rotten Tomatoes FAQ on their website, reviews can’t be left before the show comes out.

“Rotten Tomatoes users can only leave audience reviews and User Ratings following a movie’s U.S. release date, as listed on our site. Verified Reviews are available for movies in the U.S. that were released after May 23, 2019 – the date we added this feature.”

So let’s be honest here and say it’s equally likely that people saying the reviews are fake are also pushing their own agenda.

They need to pull this dumpster fire off D+ like yesterday. Everything from the look of it (wheres the 180 million because its not on the screen) story line, the inexcusable trashing of the prequels lore, and the asinine acting makes the Holiday Special look like Oliviers Hamlet! And yes Kennedy has to answer for if.

  9. flick

    >majority of fans are men
    >Kennedy acknowledges this herself
    >they just want quality escapist Star Wars themed scifi like the original films and KOTOR
    >continue to make low quality and badly written shows and films that only appeal to misandrists and identity politics obsessed idiots
    >blame fans when they complain and stop consuming

Genius. Somebody give Kathleen a raise and another 10 year contract so she can finish nailing that coffin shut

  10. David Foust

Where are all the fans Disney WAS targeting?? Why aren’t THEY watching?? Those “toxic Star Wars fans” didn’t like Jar Jar Binks but kept watching because George listened to them and showed less and less of him in the following movies. He didn’t force the fans to “like him or you suck” mentality like Disney has. They didn’t watch Book of Boba Fett even tho he is a really popular character, the story and writing was bad..simple. No racism involved.
