Wdw ran just fine on the original fast pass system. Then they got greedy and saw a way to make more $$$$$. What a shame Wdw! It is no longer Walt’s dream for a family to attend it is now out priced the blue collar families. Shame on you Disney!!!!!

I so agree with your comment

Your bang on right. Everything is stemming from their greedy changes to get more margin out of the same resources and now it’s cost them good will of the paying guests. It’s a downward slope that they don’t seem to be capable of arresting at this point in time.

They don’t care about International guests from say the UK as many of us a tied into Disney having booked our tickets ages ago. They have our money and they now this new system will make many now US and Canadian guests can book in advance so why change the app. I hope I am wrong however and some pixie dust will.fall on the Disney park officials who will then allow all to make use of this change.
      But I fear the worse…..

This doesn’t make much sense from Disney except for that their “Genie” system is in the US and probably can’t handle the latency of outside the USA connections in their Amazon Web Services cloud space. Redesigning it to accommodate the higher latency connections from outside of the USA isn’t worth the money or effort for them. The majority of their Amazon services is out of the Oregon datacenters which is already crappy for servicing Orlando.
Lol, they rushed Genie+ a few years ago and now they’re stuck with it’s inflexible backend. Even a lift and shift to AWS Virginia datacenters would probably help WDW, but could kill DLR and kill regular access for the dev teams in California.

I’m disappointed they got rid of the original free fast pass. Just another cash grab to continue raising money. Universal keeps looking better and better. Is it your intentions Disney to bankrupt a family to attend your parks? Your parks have been declining over the years. They aren’t as well maintained and the cleanliness is obvious whether at the parks or resorts. The magic isn’t there like it used to be.

      100% agree!
Also paying for the late nights. What perks do I actually get for staying in a deluxe on property?!!

It’s a shame Disney disadvantages and excludes international guests. We miss an important adventage of our Disney package. They should discount us, if they would not fix this system. It’s so easy to make a workaround on the website. Why shouldn’t they?

Such a shame that Disney is just about only money now. I won’t use Any of the pay lines. I’m a regular at Disneyland, every week. That’s changing now. Usually go to WDW once a year. Just canceled my trip. Going to Universal instead. Will be first time in Florida parks. Time to move on from the Disney greed. Universal in California might be smaller, but they are very welcoming. Platinum Pass much cheaper and free Express attraction entry, which is great, and Halloween Horror Nights ticket. Goodbye Greedy Disney after 40 years.

Just go back to FastPass DISNEY!! It WORKED!!!! EVERYONE BENEFITED!!! Please go back. With the terrible changes including but not limited to DAS which again leaves out a large swath of guests, this would benefit those people you (Disney) left out.

Does Disney still have those Fast Pass signs laying around? I’d rather they raised the entry passes than to have to fool around with the whole Genie garbage. I don’t recall so many complaints about Fast Pass. It made it easy for all guests, regardless of their financial levels. And bring back The Electric Light Parade with the “Honor America” float and Tinkerbell in the lead! Fast Pass and the Main Street Electrical Parade are the things we loved.

  8. Zara

All the cry babies still moaning, all other parks incl Universal have been charging for fast pass for years, you should be grateful we had it free for so long, there a business, not here to appease to your entitled a****

  9. Disney Fan

Will they now let DAS also book in advance we were told we couldn’t

    1. Dawn Keibals

With DAS, it was always based on current wait time when booking, still seems to be the point. Instead of having to wait in line you can be somewhere that is better for your party. Hoping the new DAS still meets the needs for your party, my wife suffers from CRPS and is in chronic pain, sounds like she won’t be eligible. She normally misses one day and rests during our 4 park days so hopefully it’s not more for our next trip.

It’s sad that if you are rich and can afford it you get better treatment! Why can’t it just be the same in the beginning when anybody could get a fast pass! Disneyland was supposed to be a family affair. Now the not so well to do have to watch and explain, to their children, why all these othered get to go ahead of them

  11. Jaybro1727

I agree with almost all of the statements! The fact is that Disney pioneered the entire “fast pass” industry. They used to be generous with fast pass while charging high prices as it was and then they got greedy when they found out people were willing to pay to get faster access to the rides. So now not only do they have an ever higher priced admission, now it’s an exorbitantly high priced admission AND a pay-per-use style pass. People need to save all year just to bring their family there for a day or two.

  12. Alison

This really isn’t as big of a deal as they are making it out to be. All they have really done is change the names. You still have to pay, and the prices will probably go up! We are all really still screwed. Bye-Bye Annual Pass, I’m done with the madness!

  13. Rod Simonson

So, they took away FastPasses, replaced them with an expensive but broken set of options which are now being replaced with a more expensive, less flexible, more restrictive set of options. Why is so difficult to see how much better FastPasses were? Plans could be made, in detail, 60 days out and both guests and Disney would know that far in advance where everyone would be, and when. How was that a bad thing?

  14. Susan

It is a shame how greedy WDW/Disney has become!!! They keep taking away the magic for both the kids and the adults!!!

  15. Disgraceful that all people paying to stay at Disney deluxe resort don’t get to book the fast pass ride system 7 days in advance of their stay, whatever country they are from. DISGRACEFUL DISAPPOINTING.

  16. I was ok with the genie plus lighting lanes but hating the new way having to book a week in advance. I am an annual pass holder, fla resident and stay in disney deluxe resorts. When at disney most people do wake up early and it’s no big deal to wake up at 7 to book and if tired go back to sleep, my daughter did it all the time. We alot of times decide last minute on the parks we’re attending so this new way to us is very disappointing.

  17. Dan Fitzpatrick

First off, I have to say that I am an annual pass holder and have been for many years. Second, we have stayed at most of the Disney Resorts over the past 50 years, from All Star Sports, Music, and Movies to and including The Grand Floridian, and the Polynesian. As well as most of the resorts on property. The third piece is that I was an educator of nearly 40 years. We were told to “monitor and adjust” as classroom teachers, taking into account what was and was not working, and to make the necessary changes to improve education. Same with most things in life I suspect from parenting to running any business. With that in mind I would offer the following suggestions as a starting point to the folks at Disney, and by no means say that this will satisfy everyone or fix every issue that is being raised around access to rides, and attractions. For consideration: A) Reinstate the free fast pass system but also add more kiosks throughout the theme parks for easier access. Or B) Create a tiered Lightning Lane system for those guests who are staying at Disney Resorts. Something like 1) those staying at Deluxe resorts – Free lightning lane passes. 2) 50% charge for those staying at Moderate resorts. 3) 25% rate for those staying at Value resorts. Allow those staying at the resorts to access the Lightning Lane system 3 weeks prior to their stay at the resorts, regardless of where they are coming from. And finally, C) Annual Pass Holders who are staying at any Disney World Resort will have access to the Lightning Passes for free. My wife says that Disney won’t care and that, for Disney, it’s like the line from Jerry McGuire -“show me the money”!

  18. Dianna

I honestly think you need to remove the genie + system all together. As a pass holder you’ve taken away the magic we once had to now focusing on our phones instead of our family. We’re angry that you took away the free fast pass system and now charge high prices for an entry ticket to now having to purchase genie per person per park plus lightning lane passes. ARE YOU KIDDING ME !!! We are ALL being RIPPED OFF . You make millions upon millions every single day. To charge for fast passes and increasing 15% for each year!!!? You gotta be kidding. If you’re trying to keep average families from affordable fun , you’ve done it! My family of seven can’t afford NOT ONE DAY in any of your parks. Thanks Disney for taking the magic and my family’s dreams to visit unattainable. Just saying , you don’t need this Genie or lightning lane money. GO BACK TO PRE COVID FREE FAST PASSES. The magic comes back and maybe families could afford one day.

Here we go again with guests who are staying on site to get all the best rides before everyone else. Sadly there’s will always be guests who complain. Can’t please everyone!
