Few shows have proven to be as popular or culturally defining as Stranger Things. Created by the Duffer Brothers for Netflix, Stranger Things is a mystifying, thrilling, and nostalgic adventure featuring some of Hollywood’s most up-and-coming names.

The exceptional ensemble cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp, as well as industry veterans such as David Harbour and Winona Ryder. Stranger Things has continued to be a powerhouse for Netflix, garnering millions of viewers each episode with excitement growing for every new season.

The show first premiered in 2016 and has remained one of the most-watched projects in Netflix’s entire catalog, competing primarily with the Jenna Ortega-led Wednesday series.

Due to the success of Stranger Things, several young actors and actresses have been propelled to stardom, with the series’ biggest star being Millie Bobby Brown. However, other child actors have successfully become celebrities in their own right, with series co-star Gaten Matarazzo becoming an iconic pop culture personality both on and off-screen.

Unfortunately, this star power can have negative consequences, with 21-year-old Gaten sharing a disturbing encounter he had recently with an adult fan.

In the newest episode of Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, a popular talk show on YouTube, Gaten reveals an adult woman told him she had a crush on him at a very young age.

“This woman in her 40s said straight up, ‘I’ve had a crush on you since you were 13,'” says Gaten. “And I was like, ‘That’s upsetting’ … then she doubled down. She was like, ‘I’m aware of the age difference.’ … her daughter was with her, and her daughter goes, ‘Mom, what the fuck?’ I swear to God.”

With the cast of Stranger Things starting their careers so young (Millie Bobby Brown was 12 in season 1), the sanctity of their “normal, everyday” life was certainly affected. This troubling encounter was certainly not the first, nor will it be the last, that the cast of Stranger Things faces, but hopefully, most fans will continue to be respectful and show their appreciation in an appropriate manner.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Stranger Things‘ fifth and final season in 2025, though an official release date has not yet been announced.

Matt and Ross Duffer told Deadline last year that they hope season five “sticks the landing.”

“Characters are already going to be in action, they’re already going to have a goal and a drive, and I think that’s going to carve out at least a couple hours and make this season feel really different,” Matt Duffer said last year. “I’m sure the wrap-up will be a lot longer. It’s going to be ‘Return of the King’-ish with, like, eight endings.”
