When trading with CMs, you keep your pin back. They hand you the pin you want and you hand them yours. I bought of pin backs and always kept with me. I never thought of asking CMs behind counters
I just go back an expired MealPlan that I thought was tied to my Park visits but was part of the hotel stay. Disney gave me back over $250 even though I was my misunderstanding. We had a great stay
Why are they fake? Disney has been hemorrhaging money left and right for a while now. They will continue to cut corners until they realize the actual cause of their problems.
