Okay, so don’t ban pin trading all together. Just the pin traders. Trading pins with cast members is always fun. But I do agree with vendors setting up tables being bothersome. Just don’t ban trading period

    1. Disney Papa

Agreed 100% pin trading with cast members is not only fun but can be educational also with Disney trivia I say let the swap meets set up shop on the other side of Harbour blvd.

    2. Facts are set up pin trading outside the parks. Hint give them space in down town Disney. Disneyland do it down town Disney .
Problem i see they dont look good inside the parks.
Im sick of the fake pins people trade .

The pin trading events that used to be held at the Contemporary Hotel lobby were always a big deal with our children. It was condoned by WDW and it was an organized, with rules, event. The hawking and haphazard locations has given it a bad wrap. Pin boards and cast members should be the boundary, in the parks.

      1. Deborah

Pin trading should be allowed because it’s a hobby for lots of Disney fans. It isn’t disruptive, it’s something people enjoy. Disney is about enjoying the experience and pin trading is part of the experience for some.

        1. Kim

          I agree

Pin trading was one of my favorite things the last time I was in WDW. I even traded with some folks who proudly display large collections in large pinfolios, on personal ECV canopies, novelty ties, and a foam knight’s shield. At no point were any of these interactions in the way of anyone. I have so many wonderful memories from pin trading, it would be a shame to see it banned. I find it to be part of what makes visiting Disney so magical, as often guests interact with each other and create their own magic just by pin trading! If Disney feels like it’s such a problem, just add some extra guidelines.

I for one do not want to see pin trading banned at a Disney Property. I will admit that at Disneyland the pin traders did get a little overboard in Frontierland. The was it is done now with very small tables is a big improvement. Pin trading has helped Disney to sell more pins.

The sad thing is, there are counterfeits. I briefly dated a con artist who who would buy bagfuls of 100 very cheaply. We’d go to Downtown Disney to trade and it was fun until sharp cast members picked out the mostly fakes. I was so embarrassed. Needless to say, the guy was history to me.

      1. Susan

Would he not have been history if you guys weren’t caught? He should have been history when he brought home 100 fake pins! Let alone following him into Disney Downtown to rip people off! I’m glad your embarrassment was the final straw, and not knowing you’re scamming people and children when they are trying to have fun……gotta love the people of today!

How about banning all the idiots that don’t need scooters

I’m just leaving today back home from Disneyland and it’s hard to find pin trader spots in the parks. Some use a high top table outside a store, some have them behind or at the counter and some have a small table outside a store. So this whole ban thing is out of hand because they’ve managed to make it less intrusive to the walk ways at least to what I’ve seen the last week. Disney world does it way better because they have maps where the traders are whereas land doesn’t because some of the places may or may not participate. I used persons 2022 location good and it was hot and miss.

My daughter and I made it out mission to collect pins the first year we were there. I remember spending a small fortune, but also having lots of fun with cast members and doing trivia. It really was a blast. They were not in anyone’s way and even traded a few with other parkgoers. Why all the hate? If you need something to be angry about, be angry about the prices and the constantly-changing fast pass, genie or whatever additional money-laundering add-on it’s currently called. Once the parks are empty, from all of their bad decisions and policies…only then will prices be lowered… Stay safe and have fun!

    1. Tim

Why all the hate? It is simple some people think that they need to ruin everyone’s fun because they don’t partake.it would be bad business for Disney to ban the trading. Figure that the pins Disney sells cost them 1 to 5 dollars to make and they sell them from 10 to 60 dollars. The probably clear a few hundred thousand dollars a day on the sales of the pins. The people complaining are probably the same people that would walk into a gaming store and complain about people playing D&D or Magic at tables in the store.

      1. AB

        I concur!!!

You people have issues! Us pin traders are just trying to have a good time. I loved trading at the benches, and I still love trading with others at the tables. First they were banned from using the benches and now you want to ban them all together? That’s so messed up! They aren’t in anyone’s way and frankly, nobody even uses those benches now that they are free so people need to start minding their own business. Stop being a bunch of Karens and if you aren’t trading any pins yourself, just move on! People need a life so they can stop trying to commandeer everyone else’s joy! So ridiculous!

  8. David Buehler

I personally like pin trading. Don’t ban it. Those of you that don’t like it, don’t do it or walk on by. Don’t make everyone else pay for your distaste.

  9. April Vaughan

I’m not a trader but enjoy collecting. I don’t understand why anyone would go to the parks to trade pins when you should be enjoying the park itself. Waste of time and money:

Having worked at Walt Disney World during the height of pin trading and being required to wear the lanyards and participate, you would think I would be cheering this proposal. But, I see it as more of the destruction of the Disney magic. When the pin trading was in full force, people were happier, guests and castmembers were friendlier with each other. I think the prices if the pins are way too expensive, and the quality has gone down, but for those, like me, who used to collect and trade, I really miss the excitement, especially for the kids of getting that last coveted pin for their collection. It is time to bring back the small treasures that added to people’s days. Things like pin trading and Streetmosphere, which got people to pause, take their time, and also helped reduce overcrowding in ride lines. Since Bob Iger took over as CEO, it is all about the money, and like the pins, the price has gone up, and the quality of what you get has gone down. Pin trading may be just a small thing, but when you add it in with the decrease in shows (like those in the Showcase at Epcot), parades, character meet and greet opportunities, and lack of upkeep, not only has the quality diminished, but so has the entire experience.

One more reason to avoid the Mouse House. They create years of fancy expensive pins and encourage the trading throughout their parks world wide. The Disney machine built that monster while sucking up billions doing so, then suddenly “they” decide, ‘”That’s All!, ” and pull the plug on the massive project, leaving the collectors holding on to what pins they have?

Part of the pleasure of visiting the parks was trading pins. Like everything else the mouse touches over the past 20 or so years, it turns to crap. Ever since they started basing their decisions on political wokeness, their films, parks, and Co. Philosophy has turned to “waste”! And they wonder why they have a drop in profits? It isn’t because the parks need expanding or, new attractions. It’s the Corporation’s warped political mind-set.

  12. Steven

The problem with pin trading is there are far too many fake pins in circulation. You can get a whole bag of them cheap, and unscrupulous people use those to trade for real pins to make money. Pin trading should be for fun, not profit, and the scammers have ruined it for everyone.

    1. VicSetNC

Not everyone who trades a fake is a scammer. Some trade pins for fun and “the pin” not realizing it’s a fake. People just need to breathe and mind ya business.

  13. Christine

pin trading is so much fun to do with cast members and other guests! I hope they never ban this, but I do agree with the “professional” pin traders setting up elsewhere.

  14. Rroe

Whatever will make Disney money, they will never ban. It’s all about Money, Money, Money……………….

  15. BD

Good! I don’t go to Disney for that. If my kids want to trade a few pins that’s what the pinboards are for!

  16. TRACEY BLOUNT

Everyone out to cheese everyone else off nowadays ,how sad ….and what an over exaggeration ‘flea market’!
I don’t even trade but sometimes buy a pin that takes my fancy to just have.
Wouldn’t it have been a nice gesture for the parks to give them their own undercover space somewhere? Where they can all get together and traders knew where to find them….all in one place, but no one is that pleasant anymore.

  17. Deb

I collect. Mostly online because I cannot afford Disney anymore. But I enjoyed talking to cast members and trading pins. I never saw any with tables and books, just cast members. Give them a spot and let it be.

  18. Mortokiss

I think it is ok to trade off your lanyards and while in park, but to set up shop and trade is ridiculous. Maybe designate a spot like one mentioned outside of park. But I don’t think you should ban it completely.

  19. What next ban collecting hats stop the idiotic stuff

  20. Stephen

This feels like a VERY California problem to me. We took our daughters to Disney World in 2022 and this wasn’t an issue at all. The only group we encountered in a day at 3 of the parks was maybe 5 people gathered along a low retaining wall well out of the way in Magic Kingdom.

Disney pin trading is something I did as a kid and I passed the tradition along to my kids. My then 8yo daughter loved it. So many people complimented her collection and it made her feel special.

People who say that pin trading should be banned, you need to take a step back and realize that the “Magic of Disney” takes many forms and looks differently for everyone. What’s going to be next? “There’s too many people taking pictures of the castle in the Magic Kingdom. We should ban cameras too!”???

Seriously, if the parks would designate an area for trading then people wouldn’t have any reason to be upset. Obviously Disneyland is much smaller than the parks in Orlando, but people saying they should ban a huge part of some peoples Disney experience need to back off and mind their own business.

I’ve only been to Disney world once, years ago, and didn’t know about the pin trading thing. But quickly found out. Bought several, as did my family members. We ended up trading with a few random ppl while walking round/waiting in lines. I didn’t think it was a problem.

  22. blu

Ban pin traders – that place is packed enough – grown adults doing this stuff it’s so sad -Disney freaks are on a whole other level

  23. Put A Pin in It

(read to the end because I’m SURE most will assume my position incorrectly)
I love the heat. You got people saying things like ‘those who want it banned need to back off and mind their own business’…news flash. We ALL pay THOUSANDS of dollars to go to Disney. Not all of us can afford multiple trips and all that. The major issue here is that this is an issue for many reasons. It clogs up areas, it brings out the shady counterfeits, it causes problems for guests and cast members alike. What happens when Bob gets mad that Jim traded his 8 yr old a fake pin and it turns into something more than it should be? Is that ruining someone’s fun? Things have to change unfortunately. How do you regulate such a thing? Do you have cast members inspect everyone’s pins to make sure they’re not bringing fakes? Sure, they could find an area to let them setup, but when you let something like that to on (especially in these modern times), you’re opening yourself up to crazy litigation possibilities. Let’s rewind to that fight situation. Jim confronts Bob, Bob gets angry that Jim is calling out his fakes. Bob decks Jim and a fight ensues. People get hurt. Jim’s now sueing Disney Parks for allowing Bob to be in the park moving his fake pins. It’s a sad truth but that’s the world we live in. Pin trading shouldn’t be an issue. It’s a fun thing for everyone. I don’t think it should be banned personally. But however unlikely a violent altercation is to happen, I’m sure Disney’s lawyers wouldn’t say “meh, it might not happen so don’t worry about covering your butts” and from a pure business standpoint, it makes more sense to remove it completely. Majority of visitors won’t really care (otherwise these tables would be a MUCH bigger inconvenience) and most casual Disney folks probably don’t even know about the pin trading. Those who do care will be a vocal minority and pitch a fit, but they’ll still be at Disney and majority will STILL buy and collect pins. It’s much more logical for them to just ban it completely and call it a day.

And to reiterate, I totally don’t care about the trading and don’t think it should be banned. That’s not to say I don’t see the logical reasons to ban it.

  24. Walker

All these people they quoted as complaining and the people in charge doing the banning are just a bunch of Karen funsuckers. It’s not stopping you from enjoying the park to let others enjoy it their way. 🙄

  25. Jannice

Count on ppl to suck the fun out of everything!! I give pins to kids while at the parks.. and explain how to get the pin they really want..everyone should experience the fun of pin trading.

  26. Holly

I worked at Disney years ago, like 30 years ago and there has always been pin trading but it was not allowed in the parks unless you were trading with a cast member. I am not sure why they changed it.

  27. Popa joe

Pin trading is a staple for years and can be fun . But it can be managed by cast members . I’d say just keep the cast member landyers for trading and if anyone wants to trade with you it is their decision

  28. ABSOLUTELY DO NIT TAKE IT AWAY. OK MAYBE IN CERTAIN AREAS ONLY BUT THAT IS TAKEN THE FUN OUT OF IT. WOW
