As we’ve mentioned countless times here at Inside the Magic, theme parks are only as good as the guests let inside, with the overall experience hinging upon the good behavior of others. No matter how magical Walt Disney World may be, if guests aren’t acting appropriately, the entire experience can be ruined for thousands of guests, something that has happened multiple times over the last several months. In December, multiple gusts were arrested for stealing jewelry at the Magic Kingdom, a place that prides itself on being “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”

These incidents are not exclusive to Disney; however, the Universal Orlando Resort also sees some disappointing behavior from guests. In March, a content creator bragged about how they got banned from the theme park, sharing videos online with millions of fans.

Guest Attacked by Grandma

According to a new report from Orlando Theme Park Zonea teenage guest was attacked while visiting the Universal Orlando Resort earlier this year. According to a post online from the mother of the teenage guest, the family was visiting the Universal Orlando Resort during its annual Mardi Gras event, which includes an iconic parade. During the parade, a “drunk grandma” got mad about the amount of beads they had and started ripping them off of her teenage daughter, who uses a wheelchair.

“She punched me, tried to punch my other teen daughter,” said the mother. “I have never been in a physical fight before and tbh it was kinda shocking that my mouth didn’t start it and also thank god grandma was drunk because just my shoulder got punched. It’s a little a little funny now but it was not at the moment.”

The mother of the teenage guest was asked by Universal Studios team members how they could make up for the incident. “We were supposed to be leaving the next morning. We didn’t due to car trouble (the one time we drove instead of fly, of course), but what she wanted was to see her favorite Popeye.”

The mother explains that a Universal team member was able to arrange for a private meet and greet with Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Betty Boop, giving the family a much sweeter note on which to end their trip.

“I wanted the woman to be in trouble for how she behaved and I hope she got banned,” said the mother.

With how large and popular both Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resorts are, it’s nearly impossible to completely rule out this type of behavior. This type of behavior is strictly prohibited by Universal, as laid out in the resort’s extensive list of rules, regulations, and guidelines.

The Universal Orlando Resort is set to expand very soon, with Epic Universe opening in 2025. This massive project marks one of the largest Universal expansions ever and will add dozens of new rides, attractions, and experiences to the resort for guests to enjoy. From Super Mario to Harry Potter, guests can enjoy a plethora of new experiences based on some of the world’s most recognizable franchises. Epic Universe will join Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure as the resort’s third theme park and is set to officially open in the summer of 2025.
