  1. They won’t outlaw crocs because they sell them and make a lot of money doing so

I came to here to basically leave the same comment. How are you going to outlaw a shoe that you sell?… and make millions selling them.

      1. J

Because shoe laces and loose clothing have never gotten caught in escalators…

    2. J

Yup I got a pair last year in Disneyland. The 100th year one’s that are purple. They are a little over priced even though they have all the classic Disney caricatures.

Are those the ones with “Wonderful World of Disney”? I have those, too, and wore them on the escalator in The Land Pavilion about a week or two ago. I had no problem.

Here’s a better idea people: Pay attention and pick up your feet when you walk.

  3. James

Maybe if we didn’t have to be glued to our phones in the parks due to gene plus people would pay attention that there at the top of the escalator instead of looking at their phone

Two things, first is Disney does not make laws, they make rules. Second, typical corporation. Punish the people instead of fixing the problem. Much cheaper that way. This is the first time I have heard of an escalator catching shoes. Disney must of removed the safetys on them but don’t want to admit or replace them. If OSHA investigated them they would be cited for an unprotected pinch point for their employees not the guests but it is the same issue. Now this is either made up or Disney has done something seriously wrong. I wouldn’t be surprised that this actually start in some satire outlet like the onion.

There have been many instances over the years in malls and other places where escalators have caught shoes. Some injuries have been life threatening to the child and to the adult who’s shoe was caught. Just because you haven’t heard about it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen!

Years ago, a young girl in Singapore had her foot amputated at the top of an escalator while one of her Crocs got caught in it

Escalators have been catching shoes for decades. In the 90s I had the toe of my Keds pinched my a mall escalator because I want paying attention and was too busy looking at cute boys to realize I was at the top. Thankfully the shoe was a bit too big and my friends helped pull me free, but it happened, and happens all too often. Another friend had her JNCO jeans caught in the side as we were going up an escalator and we had to pull her free. From then on she always rode with her pants pulled up.

When going to an amusement park it’s nice to dress in footwear that is light and airy, especially if there’s a chance you may get wet. But you should truly wear tennis shoes/sneakers with the laces tied snugly so if there is an emergency, you are best covered and prepared to help yourself and others and you are protected. What are you going to do if your Croc or flip-flop flies off on a ride? A tied tennis shoe is very unlikely to do so

      1. Phillip

Correct, I never had any problems wearing sneakers or any other lace up or a pair of loafers!!!

Us as Americans need to stop being lazy. Escalators and moving platform were introduced to make traveling efficiently. Not for lazy people to walk up to them and ride. You visit many other countries and Americans are the only ones standing still on the platforms. The improper shoes is bs. I’ve worn almost every type of footwear and have never once gotten trapped. If you are unsure of the footwear then use the stairs or just simply walk.

Crocs, sandals and flip-flops are not banned at Disney. They just highly discourage people from wearing them on escalators. What are they going to do; confiscate them at the gate? It’s a good policy.

    2. DisneyJen7

If I remember correctly there were not a stairs option. You could use one small elevator or the escalators.

  6. Why

Crocs should’ve be outlawed a long time ago just for their hideousness. When I see people walking around in them, I wonder what the heck are they thinking? There are tons of shoes more comfortable and less offensive to the eyes. .

    1. Yvonne

They are thinking they like them and want to wear them. Not everyone likes the same thing.

    2. Reene

      Agreed!

  7. Lynn

That escalator has been there for over 40 years. Why all of a sudden is there a problem? Make smart decisions and stay off you phone and parents watch your children and give them a hand getting off!

  8. Buddy

Do not care what they require to wear. We no longer visit this park after numerous trips years ago.
Kids and grandkids have no desire to see how they have destroyed Walts Dream we all got to enjoy years ago.

    1. Yvonne

How has “Walts dream been destroyed” by the park? New, imaginative rides? Ground breaking new effects? Not sure how he would’ve felt about all the new IP in the parks but Roy would’ve swooped in for the $$ and talked sense into him.

  9. Beverly

The video shows a tennis shoe caught, not crocs. So I guess no shoe is safe to wear now at Disneyland. Why not try and fix the escalators and stop blaming it on your quest.

    1. Dave

Any shoe can be safely worn if you follow one important rule, never let your shoe rub the side of the escalators when your going up. Standing on the step on the up side the side wall is pulling down if the gap is to wide your foot or clothing can be pulled down, on the down side it pushes your foot up.

  10. Reene

“A new warning sign can be seen on the escalator platforms, informing guests to hop on if they are wearing Crocs or any other type of light footwear.”

Ya had one job to do…

    1. Robb

I was coming to say the same thing.

  11. Daviedave

It saves Disney from being sued. If you get injured wearing anything on a device that’s labeled not to wear thes items i.e. these type shoes, loose clothing or long hair and get injured, your on your own. DISNEY told you not to.

  12. Deb

Some people cannot wear closed shoes , walking sandals are preferred

  13. GuestJulie Snyder

I think, a lot of the time, people are too distracted by other things instead of paying attention to the end of the escalator and being totally ready to step off of it.

  14. M

Maybe it’s just me…but getting on/off escalators used to be common sense. Here’s a tip: pay attention!
