Maybe Disney with all there land should build apartment building with affordable rent only for employees..

    1. They were gong too.. until DeSantis set his new board on them

      1. Any one could legally build housing for them … it’s not a decision Desantis could control.
        Geeez

      2. Walt

Rightttt….. Disney has been in place since 1972 and just now they were going to build affordable housing in 2022. Spare me the spin. Iger is intersted in only two things pushing his woke agenda and lining his pockets. That the chattle known as Disney employees are homeless – too bad.

          Walt SPOT ON!

@Jodi, blanted BS! Originally Epcot was supposed to be the experimental prototype community of tomorrow, meaning that people would work and live there. If you referring to that you’re correct, if you think for a moment that Disney has been around for this long and “ was going to build places for cast members to live” Ron DeSantis… You’re drinking Kool-Aid.

Some of us have been around long enough to know that this simply isn’t true. Case in point the tree house villas at SSR where once cast member lodging. There now part of the DVC collection. Meaning that those properties were already cast member housing from what I hear we’re in deplorable condition until they were turned over to DVC. Making shareholders more money. Bottom line, I am a big fan of Disney. I’ve loved it since I was a kid. I am a DVC owner, I have Disney+ and all the stuff. But I am also unaware that Disney is a corporation.

So you can’t play both sides of the fence and say DeSantis is beating up on Disney while they rake in the dough and do nothing for the cast members, the loyal fans, and DVC for that matter. They are in fact they had to do one thing in one thing only which is make money for the shareholders.

They are actually building affordable housing right near the park for employees. But homelessness isn’t just a disney problem. It’s a Florida program and while the state and lo al governments don’t do enough to help the homelessness. This article is meant to attack disney. The homeless also need to fight for themselves also. I was homeless 4 years ago. I got a job at disney and worked my butt off and now I own my own house. I was just diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and because of treatment I can’t work and disney has been great. Alot of homeless won’t go to shelters be cause they don’t want to follow the rules including no drugs or alcohol. This new law does nothing to help the homeless. We need more affordable housing and less 250 thousand dollar home and a solid path, that if followed will result in a safe place to live

That’s what Disney has planned but DeSantis keeps messing up the legislation for it.

  2. Any one could legally build housing for them … it’s not a decision Desantis could control.
    Geeez

With Disney making huge profits it is a shame they will not do something. They donate huge amounts of money to things that do not help their cast members. It is time for Disney to step up and help people that made all that money for them.

  4. Numbskull

‘Many also noted that the inflation in Orlando has been egregious over the past few years,’
They can thank Joe Biden for that, Bidenomics. Think, before you vote

    1. Walt

BINGO!!!! And now somehow its DeSantis’ fault.

  5. Andrea

I worked full time for Disney, a they pay and treat workers like trash! I was making $7.45 an hrs had to pay medical, and union dues who never answered their phones when u needed them, it was a bs union which threatened u to join or be fired! Walt Disney planned “Celebration” community was built for the cast members working Disney, but the CEO had other plans for it. Don’t blame DeSantis for The homeless Disney workers blame Chapek and Eichler, and the Board of Directors at Disney, cast members do all the working magic and the higher ups get the money.

    1. Nick

I guess you should have finished High School.

    2. Walt

How in the Hell is it Chapek’s fault? The woke idiot running Disney now has been in charge for 20 years – he has done nothing. But he is building – though maybe they are done one and possibly two LUXURY sailing yachts. This is the proverbial “Let them eat cake” scenario (and yes I know she did not REALLY say it).

    3. I wok for disney now and make 24 an hour. I love working for disney. I have been out because I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and disney has given me the support that I need to fight. You’re right celebration was built for disney employees but with wants rules for living there weren’t sustainable as time went on and a lot of people left and it was taken over by developers. Disney is building affordable housing right now for cast members and was going to build more until DeSantis big ego and his illegal new board ruined that.

  6. Brenda B

Disney,GO WOKE AND GO BROKE! And forget blaming anyone else but yourSelves!!!

    1. You do realize how much disney does for Florida’s economy and is the biggest taxt payer in the state. If disney were to ever go broke as you say you think the homeless problem is bad now. Tens of thousands of disney employees would be homeless and other resorts in the area would be getting rid of employees because who do you think keeps them in business. Disney is building affordable housing and was going to build more until DeSantis started passing illegal bills and put in an illegal board at reedy creek. Now DeSantis is passing a law that basically makes homelessness illegal which is against poeples civil rights and it will be challenged and gone. Because he has now ideas to actually help the homeless problem

  7. Edward Sullivan

Interesting that no one mentions WalMart, Target, or the fast food chains who also have employees who are homeless. The affordable housing that Disney wants to build on Disney property is being opposed by the residents of nearby developments. NIMBY.

    1. Walt

Those jobs are not meant or EVER meant to be self supporting – sorry. US definitions of poverty are ridiculous. Cell phone, car cable etc. So many people have NO CONCEPT of how to budget, save and be thrifty. I realize times are tough – but suck it up. Tough times used to result in tough people – now it results in a bunch of whiners – gimme gimme gimme I deserve. So you work 40 hours – go out and get another job or TWO like I had to starting out. And by the way, those two women in the photo don’t appear to be short of food. Finally – STOP VOTING FOR PEOPLE THAT MAKE STUPID DECISIONS AND CAUSE INFLATION i.e. Biden.

    2. Or the other theme parks especially sea world who pays there employees alot less than disney

    3. Kathleen Hoffmeister

Don’t forget Publix. They also keep the employees pay low and they can’t afford an apartment. They charge high prices for their products but it doesn’t go to the employees.

  8. Anthony Smith

So far, not one comment about money management or budgeting. Why?

    1. Dan

Because it’s always someone else’s fault. No one is accountable for their own life choices. Also this rag only writes stories based on tictoc posts not facts.

  9. Jay

So you’re saying Disney doesn’t pay a prevailing wage and hasn’t, even though they got GIANT tax incentives and are worth Trillions$?!

    1. Steve

Once again you people show how ignorant and dense you are. Present facts please what GIANT tax incentives? And Trillions$?!…current market cap is 217.7B…idiot.

  10. M

They should be taking empty buildings, old malls and turning them into apartments.
