I’m not surprised at all. I love coasters, but this one is the worse coaster I have ever been on. I felt like I had a concussion afterwards, and whiplash as well. Riding it once was one time too many for me. Everyone I know hates that ride, it’s so poorly engineered. They really should get rid of it.
I disagree with your “opinion” and I disagree with your statement that people hate the ride. The lines prove that many love this ride. If precautions and guidelines are adhered to them riders should be safe. It’s the idiots who do stupid stuff like throwing money, having cell phones out, and trying to skirt the safety restraints and protective systems that are the problem. People are checked and searched but still sneak stuff on the ride – they are the problem. This is not the only location for this type of ride. If it was not liked then nobody would be in the line – typically long lines.
When Rip Rocket first opened, my daughter and I were quick to jump on it. However, at the end of the ride we stopped abruptly, which caused my head to quickly whip back against the headrest. I knew something bad had happened. A few days later I could not sleep due to extreme pain. Fortunately a chiropractor was able to fix me.
We are annual pass holders and are very familiar with the Universal parks
and rides. I’ve always wondered why they didn’t include head/body supports that come down over the shoulders as they have on The Hulk and Velocicoaster. Not sure who decided that would be a good idea…
Maurer was the designer of Rip Ride Rocket. Their lap bars suck. Notice Universal went with Intamin for Hagrid’s and Velocicoaster. Better ride designers. Epic Universe is Mack Rides. I doubt you will ever see another Maurer coaster in a Universal park
I love this coaster and didn’t get to ride last week because of the long lines and closures. My kids love this coaster, just got to hold your head back and enjoy the ride. The Hulk is by far worse than Rip Ride Rocket. The Hulk gives me a headache and whiplash so I don’t ride that anymore and RRR is rough but so much fun cant wait to ride again.
Worst coaster ever built. Layout sucks. Worst lap bars on a coaster. Universal is building a whole new park and Maurer is NOT included in the coaster manufacturing, thank God. Intamin designed Velociciaster and Hagrid’s, much better rides. Mack is doing the Epic Universe coasters cause Universal learned good coasters matter!
Now I feel lucky that’s the only one we didn’t go on. I felt like I was beaten up riding the Hulk coaster. The girls in front of me too. Our heads banged side to side. The girl said she felt like her earrings were being ripped out.
RRR is definitely a bumpy ride. The worst restraints in the industry as well. I wish theme parks had waivers you had to fill out before entering the parks. It would stop this from happening. Coasters aren’t for everyone. Maybe ET and Minions are more her speed.
So sorry to hear about her injury. It makes ZERO sense they are only suing for $50K. So odd. That would barely cover medical bills. but her quality of life has been diminished.
There is a warning saying there are sudden drops, turns and tilts as people enter the line which pretty much everyone ignores telling themselves the company is just being over cautious. In my opinion, there are plenty of warning signs saying the ride is not for everyone so in my opinion, your lawsuit should be dismissed. I have ridden the RRR many times with my children who love it. They want to ride it everytime we go to US.
I agree with you and we have ridden with our children and now our grandchildren. All coasters and most rides are inherently dangerous to some part of the body. Cras are dangerous and so are planes BUT if people follow instructions and the precautions these dangers can be limited. What I have seen in 40+ yrs of riding rides especially coasters is the ignorance of riders. Those who throw money – had this experience- but the kids who work at most theme parks are afraid to do anything about it (Busch VA), and the idiots with phones out – endangering everyone. Those who complain tend to be those who are doing stupid stuff.
Been on that coaster so many times I can’t count. Along with friends and Family. Never heard of anyone having that kind of experience. Sounds made up to me. She better hope she doesn’t get someone like me on the jury, she would get nothing.
I love rollercoasters, but this one I will never ride again. I rode it one time and came off of it with a headache and body aches from how rough the ride was. Coasters are supposed to be fun, but this one is terrible and needs to be ripped out of the park.
A family member of mine went on the coaster and the attendees didn’t realize her overhead safety bars never buckled and were wide open. She was screaming at them as the vehicle went up the incline and furiously trying to get it to close until it finally did. Not a fun memory. We all avoid that coaster now.
Sorry, but this doesn’t add up to me. It would make more sense if she had a preexisting condition that resulted in an acquired brain injury – not a traumatic one. She might have had an aneurysm or an undiagnosed brain bleed. The symptoms she experienced kind of sound like a subarachnoid hemorrhage – again, an ABI. But the coaster wouldn’t CAUSE this, it would just expedite it. Stranger things have happened, but to say that the coaster caused such severe trauma that she had a TBI to this extent without loss of consciousness? It’s not super likely.

RRR is one of my favorite coasters – I’m sorry that this woman was hurt…were there underlying circumstances perhaps?
Mel
Is it worse then Rock n’ Roller coaster? That’s the worst ive been on for getting your head smacked around causing headaches.

Which coaster are you talking about? Going there soon and a senior citizen. Don’t want to be banged around too much!!

What overhead safety bars? It’s like one big lap bar. Either your family member is a liar or you have the wrong coaster.
