Soarin’ first opened in 2001 at Disney California Adventure, slowly making its way to other Disney theme park resorts like EPCOT at Walt Disney World, Tokyo DisneySea, and Shanghai Disney. The ride features a massive, IMAX-level screen where three rows of Guests are lifted up and moved to match what they are seeing on the screen. This was a renovation for the ride, but many found the new film lacking, especially when the now-infamous Eiffel Tower showed up.
There are two distinct versions of Soarin’: Soarin’ Over California and Soarin’ Around the World. After providing sun-soaked California thrills to Guests for years, Disney decided to replace Soarin’ Over California with Soarin’ Around the World, allowing guests to travel the world and see some of the most famous locations.
In an ironic twist of fate, just as Soarin’ Over California leaves EPCOT, it will reappear at Disney California Adventure.
As part of the Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival, Disney will bring back the original Soarin’ experience, meaning guests can once again fly past the most iconic California destinations. Soarin’ Over California will run from March 1 through April 22, 2024, meaning guests will have a little less than two months’ worth of time to experience the original attraction.
Much like EPCOT’s International Food and Wine Festival, the Disneyland Resort also hosts a limited-time event by the same name (just drop the “International”). During this event, which also runs from March 1 through April 22, guests will be able to enjoy all kinds of creative and delicious food and drinks.
“Embark on an epicurean adventure,” states Disney. “Sip wine, taste exquisite food, and enjoy family-friendly entertainment!”
Guests are invited to explore California’s vibrant cuisine alongside exclusive entertainment and merchandise, as well as the previously mentioned original version of Soarin’!
