National Cellphone Outage Impacts Disney World, Disneyland Guests

This morning, around one to two hours ago, a national cellphone outage struck the country, limiting access to things like 911 services, ridesharing capabilities, and being able to call loved ones and send out text messages. This morning, the Disney cellphone outage in the United States continues to cause wireless service interruptions for thousands of people.

AT&T suffered the most, with the cellphone company reportedly being the most impacted of the major brands. Verizon and T-Mobile also began to experience nationwide outages, with reported incidents in Houston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Atlanta.

Reports started to pour in from the popular site Downdetector, which has now experienced an influx of reports from around the nation. Places like Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando have already begun seeing the impact.

Ridesharing, Texting, Calling, and My Disney Experience App Issues Reported Across the Board

This morning, near Disney World, rideshare rates have surged dramatically. A Lyft trip to Orlando International Airport from the vicinity of Disney World is priced at nearly $100, contrasting sharply with the usual rate of around $35 on a typical morning. This sudden increase is likely attributed to a shortage of available drivers, as many individuals who would typically be active during this time lack cell service, rendering them unable to utilize rideshare apps to accept ride requests.

If you find yourself at Disney World today, it’s advisable to anticipate some potential hiccups and to pack your patience accordingly. Many of Disney World’s time-saving features rely heavily on mobile phones, including services like Disney Genie+, which facilitates reservations to bypass lines at select rides and attractions, and mobile ordering, which lets you place food and drink orders ahead of time at numerous quick-service establishments. Given the reported challenges with cell service, it’s wise to remain flexible and prepared for potential disruptions while navigating the park’s offerings.

The same can be expected at Disneyland Resort in California as the issue is still ongoing as more information continues to pour in across the country. Currently, there are still reports about cellphone outages as the problem continues to impact folks in different states.

AT&T Sees Most Outages Across the Country

AT&T customers are encountering “SOS calls only” messages on their phones and cannot send or receive text messages or access the internet. The outage commenced around 7 a.m., impacting users across various locations.

In response, guests at Walt Disney World are encouraged to utilize Disney’s complimentary Wi-Fi service to access the internet and use features such as My Disney Experience. Additionally, affected customers can leverage Disney’s Wi-Fi network for voice calls.

AT&T has acknowledged the issue, stating that some customers are facing interruptions and reassures them that they are “working urgently” to restore service. In the interim, AT&T advises customers to utilize Wi-Fi calling until regular service is reinstated.
