Why is this shocking? The ticket had no expiration date, meaning they were legally required to accept the ticket since it had not been used. Now of course they will exchange it for a modern day equivalent because you need the RFID, etc. in the current tickets to do everything, but yes they will accept it for admission because they must.
If you have a ticket book with the front cover that is valid for admission, they are still accepted as well .
