The assortment of Disney theme parks and resorts is exceptionally vast, with locations scattered all across the globe. Guests will now find Disney theme parks planted in locations such as France, China, and Japan, each offering its own atmosphere, aesthetic, and list of attractions. But it’s important to remember where it all started.
The original Disneyland Resort opened in 1955 in Anaheim, California, and has remained one of the most popular and beloved theme park destinations on Earth, if not the most popular and beloved. While Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is ranked higher in terms of attendance, the Disneyland Resort is by far the more iconic and legendary of the two. Unfortunately, this resort will be undergoing significant changes in early 2024 that you need to know about.

As is the case with any theme park, be it Universal Studios, Six Flags, or Disney, rides and attractions need downtime. It’s always a bummer to enter a theme park and find that your favorite attraction is closed for maintenance, but this is a crucial step in the longevity of not just the attraction itself but the theme park as a whole. However, several attractions will be closing in early 2024 at the Disneyland Resort, more than we’d like to see.
Starting on January 8, 2024, a total of five different attractions will be offline. two of these closures will be continued from 2023, and the other three are brand-new. The list includes the following:
- Astro Orbiter
- Mark Twain Riverboat
- Sailing Ship Columbia
- Grizzly River Run
- Paradise Gardens Park Events

We’re always sad to see rides close at the Disney theme parks, especially when the list includes so many fun experiences. At the time of publishing this article, these closures are indefinite, with Disney giving no information regarding their return. Astro Orbiter is listed as being closed until Winter 2024, giving us a very vague idea of when we can expect to see it back at Disneyland Park. Two other rides closed earlier this week at the Disneyland Resort, Indiana Jones Adventure and Incredicoaster, two of Disneyland’s most popular “E-Ticket” attractions.
At Disneyland, guests are given access to two fantastic theme parks, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, as well as Downtown Disney, a massive shopping and dining center that acts very similarly to Disney Springs in Walt Disney World. The newest additions to the Disneyland Resort are Avengers Campus and Mickey’s Toontown.
