Why do peopkeep saying one of disneys biggest hits of the year? When technically they lost money on the movie. She wasnt beloved either sone loved her some didnt like her and sone hated her for the wrong reasons. The film just caused more division between people
HATER!! SPEAK FOR YOUR MISERABLE RACIST OR COLORIST SELF!!AND STOP LYING 😡 IT DIDN’T LOSE MONEY!! PLUS HER DOLLS WAS AMAZON BIGGEST SELLER!! SHE’S VERY MUCH BELOVED!!
Are you smoking crack? The movie made over 500 million in the box office. You’re just mad a black actress played the character. I guess it’s ok for you paste buckets to play Asian characters in movies like dragon ball z live action huh? How many movies have white people appropriated? Look up the history and shut up
Production costs for LM were $250 million and marketing was $150 million. Theaters keep 60% of the revenue so Disney needed the movie to gross $560 million to break even. Disney’s net profit was approximately $9 million.
If you’re going to critique or comment, check grammar. Also, if you’re going to regurgitate someone else information make sure it’s fact. Don’t be ignorant.
We loved her because she was an talented R&B artist before that stupid movie was even thought about. People hate her because she accepted a role in a movie but she’s a good person who didn’t do anything to deserve the hate like bun a flag, denounce democracy or rape , kill and hurt people. People are sheep. and so weak minded so they’ll follow any trend… pathetic.
In 1989 Miss Halle Bailey was not even a twinkle in her Daddies ball sack much less was she a R&B artist.
The original Disney Little mermaid came out in 1989 she was not born until March 27, 2000 so the Disney movie was 11 years old by the time she was born!
So no she was not a R&B artist before the thought of a Little mermaid movie was thought of. That’s a fact!
People of no color will always have something negative to say about something done out of the norm. The fact that it was a cartoon brought to real life was amazing! The fact that the main character was a woman of color got all the people of no color upset…. so upset that they refused to take their children to see the beloved Ariel in living color.Just goes to show that even though the Jim Crow laws have been banished for decades the prejudices that supported it still exists. So sad
So you believe that alternating other people’s cultures and stories is okay? As long as it’s not your own culture of stories?
As a child, My favorite book was “Why do mosquitoes buzz people’s Ears” Awesome African folklore! Loved this as a child and read it to my children who are all adults now.
I’d be very disappointed if this tale was retold by someone who is not of Black African descent or was played out by people who were not! Even if it’s animals mostly I’d still want that African feel that starts with the people!
I would never portray an African mermaid as anyone but a black African! Since that’s what the story is about. Yes, there are stories about black mermaids in Africa that were described and depicted as being black and color the same as the people in Africa who told the story.
I’m sure we agree on the significance of the story of the part of people’s culture and race! Yet why is it okay if we keep the black mermaid as part of the African stories?
Yet it’s alright to change the ethnicity of a mermaid of another culture? To change a story of folklore to another culture seems to allude to you that you would have a problem if someone changes your history, folklore, culture, and ethnicity!
“What’s good for the use? Should be good enough for the gander!”
if you’d read the article, you would know that they were talking about Daveed, not Halle, so maybe you should think before you write an annoying ass message
Screw the racist hockeypucks!
Everything in this world isn’t pale and pasty!
It’s changing; all ethnicities, all shades!
Enjoyed the movie and loved all the characters.
Get over it you horrible Whyte people!
If you guys read the article in its entirety, the beloved “actor” that’s expecting with their loved one ISN’T Halle. It’s Daveed Diggs, who voices Sebastian in the new remake.
Disney failed all of us that grew up on original Disney with this one. All this new woke stuff is for the birds snow white is going to flop to. So much disappointment to come from the route Disney is going now. Especially with the strike and them losing most of their rights to everything. walt is probably rolling over in his grave full of disappointment.
She just sold her soul to the enemy, he belittles her, cheat on her, and she gets pregnant. She’s the dumbest, she had it made, kid free. Real talk, I’m totally convinced, she is weak.
You people are freaking weird!!! Why TF do you have Halle Baileys photo up, but the article is regarding someone else’s pregnancy?? Stop the freaking lying and leave that girl alone. Idiots!!
If she were pregnant, its nobodies business!!
People of no color will always have something negative to say about something done out of the norm. The fact that it was a cartoon brought to real life was amazing! Little girls always like to fantasize dream create in their mind exactly what the movie means to them so due to the fact that there is a announcement about her pregnancy is inappropriate.
