I still don’t see the breakeven point yet. After you add for marketing and distribution you have added a significant amount to the original 200 million budget. On those ticket sales you have to remove taxes off the top which, depending on the country, can be startling. Then you have to take out the share that goes to the theaters. While the first week or two may favor the studio the cut gets progressively more in favor of the cinema owners. So the longer a movie plays the return diminishes for the studio and they may only be getting in the neighborhood of 25% of the box office. Just because a movie has legs doesn’t necessarily mean it has broken even or turned a profit.
I thought Elemental was a delightful story and looked beautiful. That said, it’s getting old that everything Disney/Pixar these days is about a girl that can do anything. It’s a tired trope and I’d like to remind everyone that just like girls, boys can also still be heroes and overcome difficulties and lead adventures.

So as of right now it’s still a flop. Not to say it won’t break even or make money but it’s not there yet.
