One would venture there are ways to measure success. I’t is interesting that Disney continues to proclaim that the live version of Little Mermaid is a success. $560 million worldwide for a Disney pic seems to be moderately successful at best, slightly above break even for the most part given their other films. I would say that if the animated version were to be released today it would eclipse the $560 rather easily.
However if Disney wants to prove the film at the expense of the original, good luck with that.

    1. Anna

I love both mermaids. Halle’s mermaid is wonderful and so is the animated one and both are part of prestigious Disney history. I think we don’t have to erase or ignore the past Ariel – she was a trailblazer in her own right for Disney heroines as well as one of the last traditionally drawn animated films. I hope that we’re able to have a Disney where both can exist. I certainly don’t see Emma Watson replacing all depictions of Belle, or Angelina Jolie as Maleficent … I think we can do the same for Ariel and keep the integrity of both versions of Ariel.

      1. STOP!! SHE WAS CHICK THAT GAVE UP HER TAIL FOR A GUY SHE DIDN’T EVEN KNOW 😆 HALLE PRINCESS ARIEL WAS STRONG AND POWERFUL!!!

        1. Chris B

          Drugs are bad for you.

          1. Angela

So they’re slapping the faces of the people who love the animated one, who grew up watching it.

Disney is more focused on being sold than actually doing what it’s customers want.

        2. Jesse Blow

Please don’t remove the 1989 Little Mermaid. It’s better than the Live Action remake for 2023.

          1. Monero

The 1989 is way better than the 2023 one!

          2. Jay ou Nettie

            Yes agreed!!

        3. Andrew Christian

HALLES VERSION SUCKED ASS EMOTIONLESS SINGING crappy CGI AND EFFECTS THEY TRIED TO PLAY OFF AS “LIFE LIKE” 😭🤣 PLS

          1. Georgia

            Stop thinking about yourself!!

          2. Mossy

And she looked like a total creeper singing part of your world and slowly cowling over the rock looking at him like o yeah I’m gonna get cha boy no thank you

          3. JBJB Fletcher

            Irrelevant. The change is temporary.

          4. Beatrix Kiddo

Original Ariel smelled like wet dog and f’d her cousins 😂😂

        4. RickTR

You have no idea what you are talking about. Maybe you should watch the movie.

          1. Nicolle

People are idiots. Arguing over what skin color a fictional character is. Comparing a live action film and a cartoon like they are in the same caliber. Having to hide the old movie to make room for the new movie because of so much hate and controversy. Now that Disney is employing people of color, they’re culturally woke and black washing things?! Idiots!! It’s a movie. Period. For kids. Period. The kids don’t care but the parents want to protest. Idiots! What about the other live action films that derived from cartoons? I didn’t hear nothing about beauty and the beast or Cinderella (expect the Rogers and Hammerstein’s version which was awesome!) But the little mermaid has everyone’s panties in a bunch. How about everyone collectively get themselves together and petition more important matters like the ever rising inflation of everything in the US or freaking world hunger and proverty. Idiots!

        5. Ebmo

The fact that people are really upset about this is nuts to me. I just don’t get it. Adults whining like children about a fictional character…like, for real? This what we doing? Is this going to affect your daily way of life? If so, disney has too much power in your life. If not, move on. I saw the movie as a kid and I promise I didn’t remember the plot of the movie at all. We owned it on vhs….still no clue. I watched the original on D+ before the live action came out and I fell asleep on it…3 different times. Maybe I am just not as invested as others. I just like the music. I don’t think they should erase the existence of the original but, they should both be able to exist.

        6. Carol

No she didn’t. She wanted to have legs way before she saw Eric.

      2. Kay

        Beautifully said! 🙂

      3. Alesia V Polk

        I totally agree with you

      4. Janey

        Agree, both wonderful

    2. Todd Hudson

Actually it didn’t break even. It was estimated that it had to do nearly 750 to 800 million to break even with advertising and such costs included

    3. Amber

What are you even talking about?? The film made more than its budget and has made even more from merchandise, especially the dolls. This movie was up against so much unnecessary hate and still prevailed. Try again.

      1. Andrew Christian

It struggled because Hollywood is doing this thing yhey black wash every character in the name of ” representation” THERE ARE MORE POC THANS BLACK PEOPLE WE NEED TO SEE MORE LATINOS AND ASIANS MAIN ACTORS

        1. Patricia

Hate much! Please get over yourself.

      2. Georgia

        And you are Right!

      3. Earl F

You obviously don’t know how movies work. The theaters get a portion of the box office return most likely half or maybe a 40-45%. Plus you have to factor in marketing which was probably anywhere between 80-100 million. So on a conservative estimate would be anywhere between 330-345 million overall. Which means for it to make a profit it would have to make almost doubly that number. And where do you see they are profiting from dolls and merchandise? Disney took a bath on this anywhere between 100-150 million loss. There’s no way they made that amount of money on merchandise sales.

        1. R.K.

The theater may get 5% if that.

        2. Anne

Earl, I worked at a movie theater and I can tell you right now you are incorrect. Movie theaters only get 20 percent of proceeds. Theaters make their money from concessions

  2. Jeremy

Both movies are excellent. Why couldn’t they just add the new one without removing the original?

    1. Chicken_parm

Bc they want to erase all things white to appease woke culture. That’s the bottom line. It’s sickening.

      1. Amber

You don’t even know what woke means. Stop using words that you don’t understand loser.

        1. Bill

Here we go. The new white card.

          1. Mossy

And she looked like a total creeper singing part of your world and slowly cowling over the rock looking at him like o yeah I’m gonna get cha boy no thank you

        2. Monero

You are so right and Disney has gone sickening woke. Mr Walt Disney is probably turning in his grave!
          They have destroyed his dream!

      2. L

        Truth! Yuck

        1. Sarah

I was Born in January 1979,And the little mermaid was 1 of my Favourite Disney movies,I am Affended they have Erased the Old Version which I prefer then the new 1,What is this world coming to

      3. Rosie

woke culture isn’t real, y’all just hate POC

      4. Georgia

No, they want to ack like Blacks not on this Earth.

      5. JB

        BOO DISNEY!!!!!

      6. Monero

You are so right and Disney has gone sickening woke. Mr Walt Disney is probably turning in his grave!
        They have destroyed his dream!

      7. KT

        Give it a rest.

      8. Francine

thats how communists roll… erase the past and pretend the current story is all there ever was

      9. Nikki

        Facts

    2. venetia

Disney does this all the time. The cartoon goes into The Vault. For maybe ten years and magically pops back out.

  3. Kelley

    Complete B.S
Not right.. She’s been around for years and you guys have the audacity to take that away! What’s wrong with you guys? I’ve been a fan for many years and I collect Disney but I don’t k ow now…

    1. Sammi

That ia completely bull crap! I have to agree with some of these comments I was skeptical of the live action at 1st but it wasn’t bad if you think of it as it’s own movie, now compared to the original animation it doesn’t compare. They both are good in their own ways and should both be kept on, just like both version of merchandise should still be sold and both versions of Princesses should be available. I don’t think they should replace the original with this version.

    2. DB

I fully agree. It’s crap! The original Ariel is the OG Ariel and it will always be that way!

      1. DC

Diedra Coleman, Like the old saying, “ If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It” ! I’m a dedicated Disney Fan too so please keep the animated version of Ariel, she’s been here from the beginning of the story.

        1. Georgia

Some old things need to get replace.
That is why we call old things ANTIQUE.

          1. Monero

Most most antique things are way better than new and the Little Mermaid just proves that point!

      2. GG

I agree both versiosshoildbekept. So we can show our children and grandchildren how movies have changed and the world. It is part of history why wipe it away??

      3. Monero

The only Ariel Little mermaid in this household is the little red-headed 1989 one. All my friends and family are the same. They do not go anywhere near that new phony one ; that one is no good!

    3. Kayla

I completely agree! The cartoon is the CLASSIC. Anyone trying to take that away from people who grew up on the original is a monster

      1. I have loved Disney. It was Magical once. But it seems Disney has broken the Golden rule and became political. There is no magic in politics. Children don’t understand what is happening. All this wokeness isn’t for children. It darkens the magic.

        1. Nikki

          EXACTLY 💯 BS DISNEY!!

    4. venetia

Relax Disney puts stuff in The Vault all the time. Google Disney The Vault. Relax

  4. Jacob Allen

Please keep both the original animated Little Mermaid and the live action one!

    1. Cameron McElroy

      I agree!

    2. Carol

Absolutely!!! As a 10yo pale little red head child when the first came out… I finally had a Disney princess to relate to. I still love Ariel and it breaks my heart to see her phased out.

    3. Nikki

Exactly this is why a lot of us were upset when a new Ariel was brought out we knew this would happen and it’s absolutely unacceptable!!! Keep both or the original the remake should have stayed true to the original for this reason right Here you shouldn’t replace what was great she could have been a new mermaid with her own damn story!!!

  5. Jacob Allen

Please keep both the original animated Little Mermaid and the live action one! Both of them are very good.

    1. Chris Wood

Just another nail in the brand that is Disney.

  6. Cameron McElroy

Please don’t remove Cartoon Version of The Little Mermaid okay! Please keep legacy of The Little Mermaid Trilogy and TV Series alive!

  7. Loretta

Such BS they keep messing with all the original movies and little mermaid was my favorite very disappointed not in any hurry to return to Disney

  8. Kristal Rawls

This movie was for all the black and brown girls of the world to know that we too, are beautiful we have been under represented. We have been blacklisted from the Disney community and it was about time that Disney integrated. “Why the little mermaid? she always existed!” The little mermaid was a representation of how white women have not allowed any black women to be on an equal playing field as them. Disney can no longer do Disney without black women. So show us in the proper light.

    1. RickTR

Are you fir real? Underrepresented? Look at the Disney web site. 75% of the photos are black families.

    2. the old little mermaid is better because she is white

    3. Monero

There’s Tiana in The Princess and the frog. They had no right messing with Ariel of The Little Mermaid. The only mermaid in my family and any of my friends watch is the original Little mermaid with the red hair! We don’t allow any other mermaid!

    4. Mossy

Just a question but how did Disney do that one black panther all black and gorgeous and the falcon nick fury and others and don’t get me wrong I like big movies I just belive like I tell my daughter movies mean nothing who you are inside does and you don’t have to have a movie to be what you look up to we as parents should be the ones that they look up to

    5. Nikki

So then wouldn’t it be a better more proud moment to have your own original black/brown princess Not a stolen one that caused controversy. Here I thought we were trying to teach our children better that stealing and causing controversy/chaos

  9. Kristal Rawls

    1. Todd Hudson

Bs im sorry but disney is one of the most inclusive in their princesses. Lets see mulan, tiana, moana, pocahontas, raya, the Hispanic one i cant remember her name at the moment, then you have encanto as well as some others i could keep going but you would just say its not true so im not wasting my time any more. Im not saying there shouldn’t be a black princess but why take slopy seconds all it means is disney was to lazy to make a movie and script of black culture and such

      1. Veronica

        Best comment I have read……

      2. Sharon Gifford

Princess and the Frog. The princess was African American.

    2. Melissa S

The rarest hair and eye color combination is red hair with blue eyes, occurring in less than 1% of the global population. This statistic is a powerful reminder of the uniqueness of the red hair and blue eyes combination. SHE WAS ALREADY THE BIGGEST MINORITY ON THE PLANET

    3. Georgia

      Well said

    4. Georgia

      And you are right.

    5. Monero

It’s obvious you live in fantasyland! There is no Ariel but the 1989 Ariel!
And the Walt Disney company has turned traitor against Mr Walt Disney!

    6. Nikki

If you were blacklisted we wouldn’t have Princess Tiana omg smdh wake up

  10. L

The remake was NOWHERE NEAR as good as the original cartoon!!!! Oh, wow😳 What a mistake Disney is making here… especially for attracting legacy Little Mermaid fans. The Little Mermaid fans who are the youngest of the young right now won’t care until they are older, i.e. old enough to see *why* their parents stopped going to the parks! I LOVED the original cartoon. The remake was truly a diminished caricature of the original movie. I will take my money elsewhere. Thanks.

    1. Shel

This is so wrong. There is mo reason to get rid of the “original”!

  11. Rhonda

Disney has released other live action movies and kept the original cartoon version available (i.e., Aladdin, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, Cinderella, to name a few). What is the difference here, other than to create animosity towards the live action version of the Little Mermaid? Personally, I enjoyed both and would watch both if they’re available.

    1. Simmy

I was thinking the same thing. I love both films, you shouldn’t have to favor one over the other.

    2. Melissa

I feel like they are just trying to create waves.

  12. Chicken_parm

Disney wants to erase all things white. Let’s call a spade a spade. We are in the age now where white people have become public enemy number one and all these companies just want to appease woke culture.

    1. Ry Light

A spade is a spade and Disney has the shovel.
They are digging their own proverbial grave.

I’m over the black topping of all history..
Black is cool but NOT EVERYTHING
      Yeah I said it

      1. Nonya

        Thank You!!!

      2. Monero

Thank you! from many people as well as the deceased Mr Walt Disney!

  13. Vita

Don’t remove the original they are different yes but the first one needs to stay stop now

  14. Christi Springer

They will only remove it until it’s worthy again. All about the algae.

  15. LMAO 🤣😂 YESSSSSS
WAY TO GO DISNEY!!! DON’T LET THE RACISTS COLORIST WIN!! HALLE BAILEY SUNG BETTY AND SHE’S THE NEW AND IMPROVED PRINCESS ARIEL RATHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT🙏🏿💪🏿😆🥰🌹

    1. Ry Light

Oh Frankie Stahp you have me 😆 🤣 😂 cracking up..
Definitely not better, blacker yes, more woke yes.. but better… anything but.

    3. Monero

She will never be better! 1989 is the best one! Prettier, funner, the best singing voice, cannot be improved upon!
The new one is full of it; will never be as good as the 1989 Little Mermaid! All you have to do is look at it and see 2023 is not the pretty one!

  16. XS05

The animated The Little Mermaid would never b removed or forgotten if they didn’t the cast the black person to play Ariel in the first place!

    1. Ry Light

      Absolutely 💯

  17. Vonda B

This is so sad. I am glad my family got to experience Disney World when we did. Before the removal of everything one by one that made Disney World the magical place it was.

  18. Paul

It begins. Just like the Disney + is for family and Hulu for adult rated stuff story line, Halle not replacing Ariel has begun replacing Ariel.

  19. Shel

This is so wrong. There is mo reason to get rid of the “original”!

  20. Please don’t remove the origional animated Little mermaid! Keep it around PERMENTLY!!!!

    1. Jeff

      I h@te woke Disney.

  21. Mike Adams

Sad that the company has become Woke Disney. Do not take away the classic cartoons that Disney gave a generation or so because of current Woke policies. Shame on you.

  22. DeRosset

Why? Is there a space issue or something?

  23. Jay

If it’s not broke don’t mess with or fix it. Why can’t Disney leave things alone why do they need to tinker with this movie and other movies just to make the 1% happy. We all grew up with the cartoon version leave it alone and just add the live action to something if u want but leave the classics as they are.

  24. Kayla

It’s not fair to those that grew up on that movie. The cartoon Little Mermaid is iconic and the original. Trying to take that away is taking away some of Walt Disney’s finest work. Whoever would dare take away the amazing animation that was my FAV movie since I was 2, is a monster. Not everything has to be changed.

  25. Melody Leak

    Dear Disney,
Thank you for growing beautifully with the future and embracing diversity. I adore all of your Little Mermaid shows, cartoons and movies.

  26. Dear Disney,
Thank you for growing beautifully with the future and embracing diversity. I adore all of your Little Mermaid shows, cartoons and movies.

  27. Car

So I can’t see original Ariel as a meet and greet now. It is now real life version?
This is getting really confusing and the original cartoon is being taken off disney ➕️?
    Is this confirmed news?

  28. Cary

The link says 40 comments I click it then goes down to only sh9w 7 comments. Then I post a comment and it doesn’t show?! I am so close to blocking this website from my Google stories

  29. S.

The lyrics have been changed ONLY… There was no update of anything whatsoever because the original lyrics had nothing wrong to begin with. All this consent and other such nonsense is a blur of the present mind which the Disney company fell for, and keeps tripping it seems seeing how they removed the classic rather than just adding to it. I’m glad I have the original movie and soundtrack before they are stopped from production!
Disney, you really need a huge eye opener big-time ‘cos tou fell into a deep dreamy sleep even Prince Philip’s kiss will find hard ro wake you up from!
Leave politics out of your world or you will suffer its consequences!

    1. Monero

I completely agree! Don’t bring politics into Walt Disney! Mr Walt Disney didn’t! Nor would he do anything to stop future generations from coming to his parks and that includes abortion! He would not condone that! Children and families, not politics!

  30. Complete bull.

Tf? This is literally the reason why you shouldn’t have done the race swap and should’ve done a completely new mermaid. Nice goin. 👎

    1. Tanya

      Agree!!!!

  31. Walt

    Grow up

  32. Chris B

Disney realizes the movie was a disaster and they still insist on making the disaster a permanent fixture? lmao

  33. Ronald

it’s crazy everything has to be replaced in the race battles now even Disney. Disney is going to go down like Budweiser did . I’m also a minority but when it starts getting so complicated it’s done. make new different race characters you don’t have to replace everything before. well bud light 2.0= Disney

  34. Joe F

This is Disney’s way of forcing their some movies down our throats and trying to convince everyone that the new Disney is better than the old Disney that everyone has hailed as the best and magical Disney. What a shame that the company is being run by people who just do t understand what made the company great.

  35. Izzabella

Disney is no longer magical. It’s become a money gauging machine

  36. Amber

The fact that grown ass adults are mostly commenting on here that they’re ‘replacing Ariel’ is sad & pathetic. News flash dummy’s the og Ariel is still here and nothing is being taken away. Go watch the og on Disney+ instead of whining like annoying Disney adults & grow tf up.

    1. Darrell H Moore

      You funny smh

  37. Rteker

I knew that Disney would do something like this. The recent mermaid film bombed in domestic cinema’s just like every other live action adaptation that has been released in the last few years. This is only the beginning of a trend, but Disney still has yet to learn how going Woke will go broke.

  38. Gary

You DO NOT REMOVE OR CHANGE long time animated Disney Classic shows at all. It shows that you do not care at all for Walt Disney’s LEGACY. SO LEAVE THEM ALONE AND NEVER TOUCH THEM BUT HAVE THEM TO WHERE DISNEY FANS CAN SEE THEM!!

  39. Tanya

Not a fan of the new movie at all! “If it ain’t broken don’t fix it”! PERIODT! Nothing can be compared to the original classic. The little Mermaid will always be the original cartoon red head and they should have just left it alone. If they wanted the new action movie mermaid it should have been a entirely different Disney movie all together, a new one and new princess. None of this makes sense but I guess they trying to make everyone comfortable and happy. Sucker Stuff

  40. Holly

Disney is boycotted in our family. They desecrate the only red head hero when I was a teen and put this hair dyed thing in her place! Then we need to change Moana to a red or blond white girl or Pocahontas. Frog Princess you can leave as she is because she deserves that role! But Disney Walt is turning over in his grave hoe you are f-ing up his characters with GETTO trailer court trash for Ariel!

  41. Daniella

Why would you take out the animated version when maybe some people didn’t like the live version? You can’t take out a classic!!!

  42. Darrell H Moore

In what world was that a success?

  43. T

Disney is only for the alphabet crowd now. I am staying miles away from the stench. Disgusting.

  44. Jaylen

I feel like there should be both , the live action and the classic one. Yes things can be updated and stuff and it will be cool to have the live action apart of the amusement park but don’t erase the original.

  45. Duramatter

Totally agree Todd. I’m Hispanic and would oppose Disney redoing Snow White to accommodate my community…as an example.

  46. Jim

It’s all about pleasing a certain race and now it’s a joke. That movie bombed anyways. Should we change the princess and the frog tiana to a white girl, change up the music? Yeah we would be getting a bunch of racial hate right.

  47. Disney mom

Geez…just leave everything alone, as is. Stop removing stuff, just to keep up with this woke crap. Incorporate the new mermaid but why take the old one out. It’s the original. So annoying!

  48. Nick

Disney, you are truly awful. I am very happy that my daughter doesn’t even know who mickey mouse is. I can’t wait till you bankrupt.

  49. Melissa S

The rarest hair and eye color combination is red hair with blue eyes, occurring in less than 1% of the global population. This statistic is a powerful reminder of the uniqueness of the red hair and blue eyes combination. SHE WAS ALREADY A MINORITY! Stop with the woke culture BS.

My daughter has red hair and blue eyes. Thank you for getting rid of the one princess she could ever relate to. I will now be canceling my subscription to Disney+. Someone make a petition this is BULL

  50. Adrian daniel

I have disney plus and the original little mermaid is still on there. I just watched it. And it’s August 16th

  51. Thomas

There’s only one little mermaid! It’s sad ur able to create new unforgettable material!

  52. M

Success? The movie flopped and has made zero money for Disney

  53. Mason

Disney is digging its own grave with this. RIP cartoon Ariel 1989-2023

  54. Pinky

I’m disgusted with Disney and their woke ridiculousness I will never spend money there again goodbye Mickey. Some know that e are divided by the radical Democrats & fake propaganda the fact that treason was committed.no one is arrested shows what a joke the world has become sad . . God bless 🇺🇸🙏

  55. John

no just no the new little mermaid is trash the old one is better

  56. Sharon Gifford

Princess and the Frog. The princess was African American.

  57. Sharon Gifford

I have to try to say this the nicest way possible. I cant for the life of me figure what it is exactly that Disney is doing. WHAT is wrong with you? To take the little mermaid off the network due to replacing her with a different color person and hair. Cancel culture has gotten right in your pocket. Changing things because someone is going to get offended is nuts. Solution DONT WATCH IT! I’m so sick of everything being changed. Its nuts!!

  58. Disney needs to get rid of The Little Mermaid live Halle Berry it’s not who should have played The Little Mermaid you’re trying to cancel culture cartoons tell them to get their own cartoon characters in their own comic book characters really Disney should just be shut down they’re a disgrace and almost every way

  59. PE

Continuing to insult what Walt Disney stood for. Stop trying to recreate the fantasy by reproducing copies that never will measure up. The Little Mermaid cartoon is a classic. We will never accept the new remakes

    1. Monero

The Walt Disney company is going down! As long as they keep offending people they can’t last. They are driving people away from the parks and their TV! Rest in peace Walt Disney!

Why? The original one was the best. Our kids and grandkids grew up with it. That’s crazy. Not everyone in the world likes the change. I’ve seen young black and while kids saying they didn’t like the movie and they liked the cartoon better. Don’t our children have a say. Pretty soon all the good classic shows will be replaced and I think that is wrong. If you take away the cartoon version, take away the movie too. I myself didn’t care for the movie. Neither did all the kids we took, both black and white. Shame on you for taking the original away.

  62. Carol

I don’t agree with this their is room for both leave the original Ariel where she is.

  63. Lindsay Record

Removing the CLASSIC, ORIGINAL Little Mermaid is a joke!! I have Always Loved that movie. Disney is already on my list and quite a few people I know because of choices that have been made with certain movies!! It’s a joke!!

  64. Los

LMAO they have to update it for “MODERN AUDIENCES”. I cant wait for the collapse of disney. Save all ur dvds/vhs tapes of the old movies or save em in a hard drive before disney completely erases the old ones.

  65. Some Guy

I like how people said “this isn’t replacing the original Ariel, don’t worry.”

Fast forward to… what, a year later? And the original is being replaced.

  66. Jeff

    I hate Disney.

  67. Ray

$500 million world wide is hardly a success. Just ask Barbie

  68. Peter

I think the reason the live action version didn’t do very well was because they made her black.

  69. Repent of your sins…. Jesus is coming soon….who cares about this… Eventually everything is going to burn up and this 🌎 will pass away…GET RIGHT WITH GOD.

  70. CRT

Disney would be cutting its throat to remove the classic version of the little mermaid from its parks. The live action movie barely broke, if it even made money at all. I understand Disney wants to push its live action remakes down the throats of its customers so that it can make more money without having to worry about creating new original material. This movie will be soon be forgotten, however, along with all other mediocre live action remakes.

  71. Earl F

I think Disney feels if they just keep saying “little mermaid live action movie was a success” people will eventually believe it. Sorry but the movie sucked. The cartoon was awesome this was just a terrible cash grab that costed way too much money. Lin-Manuel Miranda New songs in this movie were terrible. Can the Halle sing of course she can no doubt about it but act umm nope!

  72. I’m disappointed that the original Ariel has been removed. She is the first and a classic….there would be no current Ariel without the one from 1989. I love both mermaid movies, but to eliminate such an iconic Disney Character is a mistake. I have seen the incorporation of both mermaids into things, why couldn’t that have been the case? Why are we erasing a part of my generation that so many love? So disappointing.

I am reading the comments here and it is obvious the Disney company is making a mistake.
The original recordings of 1989 The Little Mermaid were performed masterfully by Disney Legends. Jodi Benson has mentioned time and time again how delicate it was to record her performance for the role of the Original Ariel. Take after take they crafted the most beloved contemporary character who not only fostered on its own the Disney Renaissance and the marketing of a children’s brand who is the top brand in the world in its category: Disney Princesses. To see their hard work admonished and thrown to the garbage to be replaced by a newbie singer who visibly rushed the song in close to one take, is scandalous.
The fact that this singer has a political agenda against White People is absolutely abhorrent. She should be cancelled because she is not fit to represent Disney for that reason alone. Even contemporary Disney values would not condone segregation.
All minorities are beautiful. However I don’t understand why Americans plaster Black people everywhere when they merely account for 20% of the population. What about Native Americans don’t they deserve more representation than Blacks? Why then does Disney releases again a black Haunted Mansion movie after the failure of the Eddy Murphy Haunted Mansion which was also Black? I hope they do not alter the attraction with these redundant additions.
The audience reaction and the current Disney backlash was predictable. What did they think? Let’s kill our most beloved female princess and replace her with a minority? Lol Ridiculous !!!
Whoever thought that to mark Disney’s 100th anniversary, they would shit on what gave them the Disney renaissance in the first place? Not smart.
It is not too late to correct the problem. They should announce a remake of the 1989 original based on the original soundtrack and character tracing cell animation in CGI. It would be a celebration of the old with the new and giving new improved details in a vibrant homage to the original who saved Disney.
Re-Release the Original 1989 The Little Mermaid in CGI based on original soundtrack and animation drawings. That 2023 junk mistake would be instantly FORGOTTEN and we can hope for yet another Disney creative renaissance.

If you still have education Creativity in your heart for entertainment PEOPLE STILL WANT THE ORIGINALS

    I pray they just relocated

  75. Hope

Disney needs to stop removing titles that have made Disney the beloved company they used to be. You can’t force this on us, you’re just forcing us away from it all. I’ve stopped even showing my grandkids Disney movies unless they are the classics. Walt is rolling in his grave!

    1. Bella

Yes, if they don’t watch it, the Disney heads are going to sink the ship just like The Titanic! People like you, me and others need to speak up, write, call them if we want to attempt to preserve a bit of old Disney. Non Conservative and Woke is gonna make them BROKE! I pray they don’t change the ride.

  76. Bella

This is just more propaganda to make us believe that the new one is better! I saw it and it’s a total bust! The songs are different and NOT in a good way, as well as the CGI or lack of it! Just look at all the bad reviews! Hopefully one day Disney will finally wake up! Woke my a** , they have blinders on if they can’t see that all of the constant woke and political crap is ruining costing them money with films. Walt if rolling over. If Mickey is going to stay rich, this is not the way to go. And if they change the ride, that would be pretty sad, trashing the earlier version. It really is like Communism lately with Disney.

  77. Mike Q.

“Following the success of the live-action film”

Uhhhhh. UHHHHHHHHH. Okay, look I’m just going to assume whoever wrote this doesn’t know all that much about movie budgeting.

It cost 250 million (actually more like ~270 million, I’m being generous and using the most optimistic figure) to make BEFORE marketing.

Add that again for marketing. Probably a little more or a little less, but generally marketing is around the production budget. Disney was really pushing this film so I doubt it was less.

Okay so we have 500 million. So clearly it making 567 million means it made 67 million, right? Not a great return at all, but still a profit.

Except not, because Disney does not get every dollar it makes in the theater. Far from it, in fact. The average take for the studio is 60%. I’m sure you can do the rest of the math yourself.

    Bottom line: Not a success.
