Disneys Springs (formerly Marketplace) was much better back in the day where the only addition was Pleasure Island.
It started to go down hill after Pleasure Island then became Downtown Disney, Disney West East side, turned into Springs.
DisneySprings turned into a menagerie of high end boutiques, high priced stores, which now a lot of stores have closed, and all it is an outlet mall now.
High priced boutiques, High priced eateries, with menus that are sub par for the most part. Raglan Road, OMG, it was over $7 for an additional piece of battered fiah, of which their fish is over priced dried out garbage.
The best gems for dining, are the Earl of Sandwhich, and Wolfgang Pucks. The McDonalds was demolished. Rainforest, nothing special, they have those in major shopping areas.
The problem became all that is there in the Springs is practically the same in the higher end shopping malls/outlet all over the US. Springs diluted itself into just a retail leasing operation. It used to be when you go to DisneyWorld, mainly everything was proprietary, meaning Disney owned.
Your best bet, stick to the Marketplace area. WDW buses drop guests at the Springs, but just walk to the right and get to the World of Disney, PinTraders, and the Stage, thats the original marketplace area.
If you are staying at Port Orlenas, Riverside, Old Key West, Saratoga, there are forms of boat transportation that will take you on a great river ride to the docks at Marketplace side.
At the Springs too, there is the docks to walk to, to access boat transportation to take you to the Market place side. (Its a long walk of not using the boats).
It was so much better, too when the character was more inset in the themeing. Mickeys Character Shop (now the World of Disney) so much more character, you know, the Disney Touch, now its more like the Starbucks Touch, everything zen and peaceful, earth tones, and natural, nothing to stimulate your senses.
The one place is the AMC. Yes, this you can go to anywhere in the US. I think this is the ine addition that needed to be there, but it should have been a Disney owned and built theater to showcase Disney movies, premier events, etc.
Dilution with retail and dining franchises just made it nothing more than an outlet mall or a slice of International drive.
Yes a definite rework, reimagining is in order. Its obvious the high end boutique genre does not work in capturing guests imagination….Isnt that what Disney is about? Placing the guests into a fantastical world…one without the House of Blues or Cique de Soleil….or Raglan Road Pub….
How about implementing a Pixar Pier like Disneyland?
Disney is no longer Walter “Walt” Elias Disney DISNEY it is being turned into something else which Walt would not like. But all of us who are Walt Disney fans can keep fighting to preserve Walt’s & Roy’s LEGACY and I will be there with you. GARY
we always start our Disney vacation here the day before going to the parks because of all the flying and want to feel more energized for the parks! I actually like it a lot!
All businesses need to focus on making money. That’s what they exist for. But Disney has traded in what made them special for more money and for more ways to make money and while you have people who still buy it all up you have people who see that magic being ripped out and replaces with more ways to take your money. I don’t mind paying for quality but paying for what they give now knowing what was there before makes me think that I rather spend my money elsewhere. Went to Disneyland this year and universal Hollywood had more “magic”. The universal experience was so much better, better value, nicer friendlier staff. Disney has taken us for granted and in some ways they are right to because there are people who are happy with what they are giving but I am not and will limit my spending at their properties
The Disney feeling, Disney magic, Disney experience, or what ever you want to call it is definitely being replaced with an average experience of an everyday outdoor mall. My wife and I would stay at just about any one of the hotels on Hotel Row and make a weekend of Downtown Disney. Recently we tried to relive that experience and got nothing.
