I think what is missed here is that this is indeed a more cheerful Wonka, he has yet to see the tragedy and woe that made him into who he became later in life. I will not be at all surprised if this start arc ends with something very sad that connects this Wonka to the one we have known (of course they don’t want to advertise that aspect but focus on the fantastic. My question is, will that work in the film?

That’s what I was thinking too. I don’t see why that wouldn’t work with the film. I’m really excited to see it!
