    I’m curious,

The oversight board has decided to stop spending millions of public money to fund a private corporation’s on-site security and make that particular megacorporation pay for security on their own private property.

Police will still respond to crimes and enforce laws but apparently Disney will have to pay for the in-place sheriff’s deputies who facilitate Disney’s private business operations on Disney private property.

Isn’t that the way most police forces deal with private entities who want enhanced law enforcement security?

I’m pretty sure that public money is primarily coming out of Disney’s pocket as the primary tax payer in the district.

I work at a concert venue in another state. We have police on sight provided by the city.

Certainly! Absolutely! I have accumulated close to three decades of experience in law enforcement.

When a private business seeks to engage an off-duty law enforcement officer to provide security services, there are three primary methods of hiring such personnel, contingent on the jurisdiction and the policies of the law enforcement agency.

The first approach involves the business directly reaching out to individual officers. However, this method can sometimes blur the lines between the officer’s allegiance to their official oath and their alignment with the private business’s interests. The fear of losing future off-duty assignments and earnings might tempt officers to prioritize the desires of the business, even if it means overlooking potential legal violations.

In the second method, the business can opt to compensate an individual officer to act as a coordinator for the off-duty officers. The coordinating officer takes charge of filling all the necessary posts, thereby having the authority to choose the officers who will work the off-duty detail. In this scenario, the business may either pay the coordinating officer, who then disburses funds to the individual officers, or directly compensate each individual officer along with a coordination fee to the coordinating officer. However, this approach has shown instances where it blurs the lines of authority among the rank and file, as lower-ranking officers might wield more influence due to economic factors than their superiors.

The third and final method involves having the off-duty details coordinated through the law enforcement agency itself. However, this method can present challenges, as the business may interact with various officers over time, each needing to familiarize themselves with the business’s specific expectations. These expectations may include remaining in designated areas, acquainting themselves with the business layout, and understanding when to intervene in certain incidents versus allowing the business to address the issue without law enforcement intervention.

As evident, each method comes with its own set of difficulties. Nevertheless, the consistent benefit of all three approaches lies in the fact that the additional law enforcement services dedicated to the business are entirely funded by the business itself.r

Inform yourself as to the terms of Reedy Creek. It was part of the deal to enrich the WDW deal fifty years ago. People are showing their ignorance sold by an ignorant history major.

Disney has its own security force that really functions as a police force, but sheriff in the area, and there’s two separate areas, come in to help with things. I think the reason behind them not having their own actual. police force is because it would mess up with the jurisdiction and who has what authority. DeSantis is only doing this to make it more difficult for Disney and to cost them more money. I think they will find that it causes more problems with authorities and who’s in charge once Disney does hire their own police force. This is only costing taxpayers more money, especially the people who live in the district that was controlled by Disney. Disney paid for so many things like road construction and their town government that runs everything that your town runs. Now they have to pay for that themselves. All the money for the lawyers and the lawsuits are paid by Florida taxpayers. This is all because DeSantis doesn’t like to lose and doesn’t want anybody to have the free speech to speak against DeSantis ideas. If Disney ever pulled out of Florida it would be an economic nuclear winter. The people who stayed in Florida would have to rebuild the economy. The guy is a total authoritarian and a racist and I am so glad he will not be president. My problem is I live in Florida. Be thankful if you don’t

Stealing from Disney to use funds elsewhere is criminal and not conservative at all. DeSantis is a bold faced liar with an axe to grind. He’ll never get my vote.

  3. Kris

How anyone can still defend DeSantis at this point is beyond me. Unfortunately Florida isn’t smart enough for a recall election, so that state will continue to fall till he is out of office in 2027 🤷‍♀️

Snowflake temper tantrums are so funny.

Rhonda Santis is a numb nut and the is a spiteful vengeful little bully. He needs to stop with the school yard antics.

DeSantis is literally destroying Florida! God help us all if he becomes President! I am a Republican but do NOT support DeSantis!

DeSantis is literally destroying Florida! God help us all if he becomes President! I am a Republican but do NOT support DeSantis! We have so many issues but DeSantis chooses to pick a fight with Mickey Mouse!

With insurance companies pulling out of Florida and rents so high regular people can’t afford to stay.., the governor has nothing better to do than pick a fight with Mickey Mouse???? Where are his priorities, certainly not with the citizens of Florida!!
