I personally neer liked the Princess and the Frog. It was fairly boring compared to most other Disney Princess movies. They could’ve tried to do a much better adaptation picked a better story for our first Black Disney Princess. That being said, I think Disney a the right decision getting rid of Spash Mountain. It’s based on a super old film released in 1946, and rarely played on television for the following 2-3 decades. Hardly any adults are familiar with the story (I’ve never seen it), and kids don’t know it at all. I’ve literally only ridden the ride just to cool off. Other than that, it was really very boring. Because, I wasn’t familiar with the story, and the animatonic dioramas made no sense to me.
At the very least, Tiana’s story is more current with audiences. At least adults and children will know whothe heck she and the other characters are, and they fit in well in the New Orleans Square stion of the park, since she is from New Orleans. Furthermore, they are remodeling a nearby restaurant to continue and support the theme and storyline for the ride. Which they didn’t do at all for Splash Mountain. It was just got plopped in as a thrill ride. Boom! That’s it. Then you get get inside and…what? What the Zippity-do-dah is this? Really. What is this? Based on Song of the South? That was released in 1946. Splash Mountain opened 43 years later in 1989. In between that time, there’s been no visible promotion of the story or its characters. It had been effectively forgotten. But, Disney wanted a thrill water ride. So, they rushed out Splash Mountain using all of the old recycled animatronics from the long-gone “America Sings” attraction in Tomorrowland. Which is another reason Splash Mountain always felt rushed and out of place to me. Today, you see Tiana and her movie merchandise everywhere in the park alongside other Disney Princesses. This seems likea muc better and thoroughly thought attraction than Splash Mountain ever was. Still not excited about it though.
