This is just a very good example of why a larger adult should not ride with a smaller child using the same lap bar. I would suggest that Disney get individual seat belts if they’re going to continue using only one lap belt. Luckily in this situation the child did not get hurt.
Separate lap bars/restraints, as in many other attractions, would be much safer here as well. The size disparity between the riders makes a single lap bar ineffective.
I wonder what would have happened if she had stopped filming and pulled her child up? Not saying it’s her fault this happened, but man on any roller coaster with young kiddos, we may take a quick selfie as a memory, but other than that we are in the moment in case anything happened. I’m glad it all worked out but man, I’d have thrown the phone down a wee quicker.
maybe if the parent wasent 250 pounds and the kid wasent 45 pound the bar would sit across both of them instead its pushed out so far because of the parent allowing a huge space for the child to.move around
I have the same sentiment as many other commenters here: PUT DOWN THE DAMN PHONE! I would have made him stay on floor and hold him down with my legs. Poor kid was terrified! My goodness, common sense really isn’t common these days at all!
That mother was encouraging the kid to NOT hold on. She wasn’t paying any attention to him until he tried to get to the floor. He was too immature for the ride. Ii went on it with my granddaughter who had no problem behaving and enjoying the ride several times and with different adult escorts.
The kid slid under the bar on purpose with the mother laughing and NOT HOLDING ONTO HIM!
He was too immature to ride and she was too fat for the lap bar!
Parks can either get separate restraints or get substitutes. I’ve been asked by so many parents if I could ride with their kids because they either didn’t want to ride or couldn’t (I always already in line).
WOW! Not sure there are any words for a mom who would rather continue taking video, than look after the safety of her child. She clearly knows the child is slipping yet that video keeps rolling. Wonder of she would have used that same video to prove Disney’s “negligence” in her lawsuit if the child actually fell out?

The ride is so short that kid wasn’t going to fall out of the ride itself… Big deal .. he sat on the floor….
John
Looks like the other passenger was so large that the grab bar did not go back far enough. And I thought there was a no video policy on rides ?
John
I like that she kept film. Bold move!
T
I don’t see it
LG
Glad she was able to keep filming! Phew!

If she wasn’t on the phone this would NOT of happened!

Haha really

I never encourage a child to “hands up” on a ride but to hold on tight

Wow! This is definitely the parent’s? fault.
Polly
Wow!!

The mom was accommodated for her seat and size leaving the smaller child with so much wiggle room

As for any rides, KEEP A EYE ON YOUR KIDS, don’t be on your phone. I to wish I could have moments in a ride BUT you can not. Kids safe first.
Mack
It’s more important to her to get video than to keep her kid safe. Unfortunately, this is all too common nowadays.

Wow she kept filming anyway. The lap bar accommodated mom, not the child. Time to kick off the large people or get individual lap bars.

We thought that ride closed when toon town went in 2011?
What “ Land” is the coaster in? We visit at least twice a year.

I say it’s on the kid and mom. Mom, pay attention and put the phone down. Kid, sit down and don’t slide under the bar.
