  1. Jersey coaster lover

I’m a passholder in that park and have ridden on both those coasters. Kingda Ka is one of the safest coasters ever built. It has so many safety censors and even if one is tripped it shuts down. It was built to have roll backs. That’s why no one was hurt when it rolled back. I will definitely ride it again. El Toro is my favorite coaster ever, I was on it the day before the accident and it was rougher then usual but I know that wooden coasters are always rough. I can’t wait for it to open this year. I have ridden it 10 times in a row and look forward to riding it again.

Isn’t the fastest coaster at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi?

  3. I don’t think KINGDA KA should reopen. What if something happens. Why doesn’t somebody check all the rides on a daily or every other day basis. That is scary.

    1. Nate

Tell me you know nothing about roller coasters, theme parks, and safety/ride inspections!

      1. King Leo

        She just did.

    2. Link

They are checked for function and operating systems all the time.
Guess you never worked a real job with equipment before.

    3. JonMichaell Sullivan

It is checked daily and the safety system did what it was supposed to do. I am failing to see why it shouldn’t be reopened. It should 100% be open and hopefully it will be soon

    4. Sh

They do…. every morning they are required to do a ride check and a lift walk before openin. But they can’t check for a freak accident of a cable snappin from tension

    5. King Leo

She just did. No disrespect Tina but your comment tells us all that you don’t know anything about how Ka works, how obsessive they are when it comes to the maintenence o perticulatly on Ka and El Toro and even more stringent is the state of NJ. NJ is nuts about this kind of stuff. If you don’t like Ka or your afraid to ride it then that’s fine but don’t wish them to take it away from the rest of us who absolutely love KA. You cannot live your life in the “what if” world. I mean “What If” you slip and fall in the shower? Are you going to never shower again because you could possibly slip and break your neck. “What If” someone runs a stop sign and t bones you? The odds are far far greater that you would wind up in an accident in your car than being hurt on a rollercoaster and the odds differ astronomically when you limit it to Kingda Ka. Then there is my obnoxious answer that makes Amanda want to kill me. It goes something like this. “What If your grandmother had balls. She’d be your grandfather. Ha Ha . If you have the time to do some research see what you can find about how often all of the rides in the park are inspected and take a look at their DAILY maintenance schedules. They’re unbelievable.

      1. Gary J

I agree it should be canceled. My personal take re: your “what if” comparisons is – I have to shower, I have to ride in cars, but I don’t need to ride on rides. But, again – of course they should be available for those who love it.

        1. Gary J

          Correction:
          SHOULDN’t be canceled.

    6. Matt

You can’t be serious. I mean I’m really looking for a /s at the end of your statement? Or maybe a automatic don’t listen to me because I’m an idiot tag? You think any one of these parks is going to put a ride in play that could possibly kill someone? These things go through rigorous safety checks and tests every day. Maybe you’re thinking of your local carnival/fair.

    7. Chase

They do lol, on these types of rides built by the manufacturer Intamin, there is nothing to do to prevent the cable from snapping. Get a rubber band and stretch it out a thousand times. It will snap most likely. That’s the same scenario as this. The ride is safer than most rides (not saying other rides aren’t safe) but this ride has a lot of censors and if one is off the whole ride E- stops. So it should reopen it’s perfectly safe.

  4. Xander

“Similar Incident” is disingenuous. The Top Thrill Dragster incident was a flag plate coming loose and could have happened on any rollercoaster.

  5. Mark Daniels

Still a rumor and not confirmed…may be true. I hope it’s not. Still unlikely a cable snapping would injure on the ride. It’s still securely on track. The cable just enables the ride to launch. The first time it broke though was June 4 of 2005 splashing oil on the people in line below causing the line to move away from the track upon reopening. It reopened September 2005.

  6. Julie

Want to ride it the world’s tallest fastest roller coaster I don’t care be worth it

  7. Your editor

Things like rides don’t “suffer” damage. Living beings like people suffer. You might want to rethink that next time.

    1. Your Disappointed Mother

Well, living beings are certainly suffering from your supercilious narcissism. Saying the ride “suffered damage” is figurative language called personification. It’s used to evoke emotion in the audience and not be taken literally. Perhaps you should try channeling the energy you put into being an online douchebag into something more synergistic with humanity.

  8. Todd

World’s Tallest. Not fastest. They would be Formula Rossa

  9. Lee

When it comes to ride incidents the media always exaggerates what happened, should always wait till the facts are confirmed

  10. Bonni Lee

No different than getting in your car everyday. Things break. There are accidents everyday, people die everyday because something happened. Nothing is perfect, except God if your a believer. When it’s your time that’s that it can happen doing anything.

  11. lynn

This is one of the best coasters ever built. Not to mention what an adrenaline rush!! I really hope this is false news, because it would be a shame to visit six flags and not be able to ever ride it again.

  12. G France

Just like anything mechanical it going to breakdown at some point. Good they have the safety sensors in place. Can’t predict when somethings going to happen.

  13. ItMLies

Kingsa Ka is not the worlds fastest coaster

  14. George

Thank you. Plus they had to say no one was seriously injured, or injured at all. Just say injured at all. Irresponsible reporting

  15. JB

At leat it wasn’t struck by lightning, needing a new part to be built.

  16. King Leo

I have been riding Ka since it’s opening and it is by far the safest coaster I’ve ever been on and I am so grateful that those onboard were all okay. That said, I am jealous of those onboard when it happened. Those who have been on Ka when it hasn’t had the momentum to crest the peak and had to go through the roll back are in a very exclusive club. No it’s not a formal club with jackets or membership cards. It’s just an awesome part of the ride if you’re lucky enough to be on board when it happens. If you’re truly a coaster enthusiast and have had the opportunity to ride other coaster in other states you would know that NJ, with all of their crazy safety requirements only allow the safest coaster in the world to operate within the state. I rode Leap the Dips and The Skyliner this past weekend. They’re located in Pennsylvania and the restraints, if you can call them that would never, ever fly in the police state of NJ. If you’re riding in NJ you can relax a bit knowing that the safety equipment on the coasters here are head and shoulders above anywhere else I’ve ever riden a coaster before.

  17. Peepeepoopoo

Favorite coaster at the park, I hope it reopens soon this year (obviously after it has been fixed and thoroughly checked). One of the best coaster experiences I’ve had.

  18. Chris

Sounds frightening, and makes me think of a couple of incidents that happened at Great Adventure in the 80s/90s, but no one was hurt so the safety measures in place must have worked.

  19. James

I can’t wait for it to reopen!!

  20. Brandon

King Da Ka is not the world’s fastest coaster. Fyi

  21. Tony

Stay in your lane. Not the fastest. Hasn’t been for years now. Everything I read from this page is half assed.

  22. Danielle

I gave up my annual passes 2 years ago. Their rides are always shut down and the park maintenance is just not there. It just didn’t feel safe anymore. They really need to overhaul this park. It is sad. We really liked going there.

  23. Rylen

I don’t go to six flags I go to kings island but this is way I hate ridding coaster

  24. Chris Hugo

NOT the world’s fastest coaster – that would be Formula Rossa in Abu Dhabi at 149mph compared to Kingda Ka at 128mph. The latter is the fastest in the western hemisphere. At 76-years-old, I rode FR in early April. I’ve ridden 30-some coasters of all types with no issues. FR’s launch at 0-149mph in 4.9 seconds – with severe braking to 100 before the first hill at 95 – is terrifying. The 1.4-mile ride takes under 60 seconds.

  25. Michael

NOT the world’s fastest coaster, and hasn’t been for about 13 YEARS.

  26. J

Six Flags has had a long history of malfunctions and death. That’s just at the New Jersey one.
