I was going to also remind folks the Wildcat went into “Hibernation” of sorts.
It also may have been one of the few rides to inspire a sports team, as during the early 2000 the Hershey Wildcats prowled the lower tiers of America (outdoor) pro soccer.
Will hopefully be able to try this reborn animal out in a few weeks!
the fundamental premise of the article is wrong. The coaster name “Wildcat” is 100 years old. The coaster “Wildcats Revenge” was built on top of a brand new GCI coaster that debuted in 1996, named “Wildcat”, as a nod to Hersheypark history.
Haha agree with the other comments regarding the age of Wildcat being drastically wrong. The name and spirit is 100 years old, not the physical ride. Also I don’t know if Wildcat was one of the most popular rides in the park, taking some creative liberties there but excited for the new hybrid conversion.
If Wildcat’s Revenge is proof of what can be done with a hybrid type coaster, WOW we need more of them!
Riding W.R. back-to-back with Hersheypark’s two biggest, all steel, hypercoasters (Candymonium and Skyrush) today, Revenge gives up nothing to those two for thrills and intensity, or smoothness. It completely exceeds all expectations, and is a pure joy!
The first coaster Hersheypark had was called Wildcat ( I believe its original name was Joyride) but was closed down as bigger and better coasters were built. Comet is the oldest coaster at Hersheypark. Wildcat was named in honor of the original coaster and was a marvel of engineering, with its turns and twists on itself. But as it became older, it became too rough and I think many people gave up riding it. The redesign of it makes it smoother and fun.
Just agreeing that this coaster is NOT or was never 100 years old! I rode it in it’s first season on one of it’s first trips a little over 20 years ago. If you’re going to write this stuff get your facts straight?
Amazing after all the comments that are clearly true this wasnt retracted or at least corrected. These guys did no research at all regarding the 100yo claims…
Its not even like its an oversight… they claim the park saved a 100yo coaster which is literally false.
This showed on my news feed ,they could never be so wrong this coaster was built in 1996. The original Wild Cat is long gone and stood at a different location. This 1996 coaster was not saved ,it is very different ,saving it would be restoring it.

Small note: This Wildcat that was used to make Wildcat’s Revenge isn’t the original
SLFake
Exactly.
HP had 2 coasters named Wildcat
Wildcat: 1923-1945
Wildcat: 1996(?)-2022
Wildcat’s Revenge is a rework of the 2nd… the original was torn down 78 years ago.
Shawn O'Brian
Correct. This Wildcat only opened in 1996.
