Absolutely true…. During a Recent visit to Epcot We checked the wait time for the ratatouille ride. The my Disney portal said the ride was down.since we were exiting the park to the boat ride back to hotel we were already on that side of the park and decided to go anyway to the ride. The ride was running and guests were allowed to get in line for the ride.
Had the same exact thought and expirience at Epcot on the Frozen ride line. Waiting an hour in line, they changed status to closed but we stayed in line anyway and it kept moving. We got on within 20 minutes of it “being closed”. Have also found the wait times are posted higher than they actually are , maybe to deter people away.
We were in Epcot when the Ratatouille ride went down. We hung around France for awhile just to see if it would come back on. It was still down on the app but the line reopened and people started going in but the app hadn’t reflected the opening for at least a good 15 minutes. The line stopped again when we were inside (standbye) I assume to let the genie plus people onto the ride first. We waited about 15 minutes and it started up again and we were riding within 20 minute total wait time! Unbelievable!
Scheduled maintenance. Mark the ride as down (because it will be soon), move the existing guests through the queue, and then send in the clowns/mechanics.
I used to work at Typhoon Lagoon. This does happen, but it’s not a crowd management tactic. The ride is likely experiencing an issue or anomaly that maintenance needs to fix but is not one that will impact guest safety. The cast members would have been told to “finish the cycle” or rather, let guests currently in line enjoy the attraction but close the entrance behind those currently in line.

So what? A scandal no. Just trying to deal with self entitled guests.
