Stayin on-site lost it’s luster a long time ago. Disney has outpriced working class families even for a once in a lifetime visit. I cannot afford $10,000 for a week long vacation that I then have to “work for” to make sure my family gets to ride and do everything they want.
We have been going for over 20 years and it is not worth paying for a resort anymore. The last time we went, we stayed in a gated community 10 minutes from the parks and it had multiple restrooms, multiple bedrooms, a refrigerator, and no loud families running around at all hours of the night to keep us awake. We were able to fix our own breakfasts and get straight to the parks quickly without fighting the crowds at one of the resorts. I honestly enjoyed this last visit more than the previous visit. Since they have gotten rid of ALL of the former benefits there is no reason at all to stay at the resorts. We saved over a thousand dollars staying off property…that right there is enough for me never to stay at a resort again.
As DVC members we do enjoy staying on the property for the convenience. Granted paying the property tax each year is a downer of course but, again, back to the convenience factor and enjoying the quality of the resorts we stray in.
As Disney has grown into a more woke, less family friendly company, it is showing in their resorts. They have managed to milk the high demand, since the occupancy rates have started relatively high, and they are using the obscene profits they make from park and resort guests to subsidize their terrible decisions in other areas. But once they wake up and people start choosing other options, including Universal resorts and VRBO homes rentals, and Disney hotels vacancies skyrocket, it’ll be too late. A whole generation of Disney fans will die of old age, while they are not replaced by new fans, particularly ones who love the parks like the old-timers (me) did. Short sighted money grubbing describes Disney management right now. Iger may be better than Chapek, but they’re no Walt. And not even Eisner. Sad.

The value, other than the fact that they are generally very nice resorts, is essentially gone.
