These exclusives tie-in with the animated film’s 25th anniversary. Mulan has been a cherished Disney movie since its debut in 1998. It is adapted from the poignant and refreshing Chinese folklore of Hua Mulan.
During a tumultuous conflict with the merciless army of the Huns, this story centered around a tenacious girl who decided to help her sickly father by impersonating a fictional male soldier from the Fa family named Ping. Her ancestors summoned a “great protector” to guide and watch over Mulan. Instead, a pint-sized dragon answered the call to earn the respect of the forefathers with help from a tiny and auspicious cricket. Mulan proved her worth by defeating the Huns not once, but twice and saved the Chinese Emperor too. She returned home a national hero and brought honor to her family and her cow.
The first item available to D23 Gold Members is an exclusive cloisonné pin. It depicts Mulan as her male character, Ping, along with her quick-witted mentor, Mushu, and her good luck charm, Cri-kee the cricket. The illustrated backer card is inspired by the Fa Family Temple and Garden, which are the iconic settings that housed the Fa family ancestors and Mushu’s manifestation to become Mulan’s guardian.
The second item accessible to Gold Members of D23 is a collector’s medallion that is inspired by the pendant given to Mulan by the Emperor of China. The Imperial Dragon emblem brandishes one side of the medallion and the “Mulan 25 Years” commemoration is on the other. This unique ornament is displayed on a red ribbon and comes in a memorial box.
Both these limited Disney treasures will be available for purchase at 8 a.m. PST on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at shopDisney. The “Mulan” 25th Anniversary Pin will only have 1,500 units and the commemorative Emperor’s Medallion will have 750.
