I was on the boat when it broke down right in the middle of the river between the 2 raft docks for Tom Sawyer Island
I was standing on the top level at the front of the boat and felt a spray of water almost as if it was raining
The boat stopped soon thereafter
I assume something went wrong with the steam engine
Disney evacuated us using two of the rafts
They provided us with recovery Lightening Lanes and bottled water
I was the lead at the attraction in the late 70’s early 80’s. This is NOT the first time it has broken down. Back then we would tow the boat in with a keelboat or raft if there was an engine problem.
My guess is they don’t have they have so many safety issues and lack of skilled drivers for the rafts they can’t do it anymore, and evacuated guests while they worked to fix it.
But it is NOT the first time in 50 year. I can think of two times myself. But certainly in the past 20 or so since they have made that information open to the public.
