Star Wars focuses a lot on Anakin Skywalker. Some say he is the chosen one (others believe Luke to be the real chosen one) and brought balance to the force. Anakin’s downfall is a tragic moment in the Skywalker Saga, but his time in The Clone Wars and with Padme highlights that Anakin was so close to not being Darth Vader, but his fear of loss drove him away from everything he knew.

When Anakin transforms into Darth Vader, fans forget about the face inside the machine because Vader is nothing like Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan Kenobi reminded fans that the Sith believe in transformation. They must kill their past self and embrace the dark side. That’s why Anakin Skywalker is dead, and Vader lives.

In Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi (1983), Lucasfilm rereleased the movie back in theaters, but it was actually the first time fans could see Hayden Christensen on the big screen. How is that possible? Funny enough, the last time the Original Trilogy was in theaters was in 1997 for the Special Edition that George Lucas made.

After that, he made more changes in 2004 and 2007. Hayden Christensen was added later to replace Sebastian Shaw as Anakin Skywalker when Luke (Mark Hamill) sees Kenobi, Yoda, and his father as force ghosts. This change is something fans can see in theaters for the first time, and sadly, it’s going away before fans might’ve released what they could’ve witnessed. The rerelease of Return of the Jedi is the only way to see this on the big screen, but fans have already probably seen Hayden Christensen as Anakin on DVDs or on Disney+.

This won’t be the last time fans should expect Christensen to appear as the actor will return for Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka and then possibly once again to play Anakin/Vader in other Star Wars projects. While Christensen may have received backlash initially for being Anakin in the Prequel Trilogy, fans love him and want to see more of them, and here’s hoping this is just the beginning of seeing Anakin more.

Hayden Christensen isn’t getting younger, so it’s hard to say how much longer he can play Anakin, so his time with the role is definitely limited.

You can catch up on other Star Wars movies or shows all on Disney+!
