My family and I had zero issues this past weekend.
Instead of blaming teens, blame parents! Bad teen behavior is a direct reflection of bad parent behavior. Our kids are a reflection of what our adults model for them.
We had a last minute trip to Disneyland a few years ago and didn’t know it was a Grad night. The kids completely took over the park so that lines were extremely long and it was so crowded. We were lucky because our child was young and we only wanted to go on the kiddy rides that most of the grad kids weren’t interested in.
I think it’s a nice idea to let graduating seniors have a fun evening there. But I don’t think it should overlap with the public and I hope they don’t make it a shorter public night to accommodate the grad night event. An “after hours” option would be great.
Grad Night has been a tradition for decades, and I’d hate to see it end. BUT, it needs to return to an after-hours only event. No more allowing an add-on purchase of daytime admission. My older daughter and I learned this the hard way a few years ago: packs of teens running from place to place with no regard for other guests, climbing like 6 year olds on every rock, wall, fence (again with no regard for safety), line-cutting, screaming on rides – it was a nightmare.
I went to Grad Night from Arizona in 1975. It was awesome. We took a bus to the park, went in (I think) about 11 pm, stayed until 6 or 7 am, and got on the bus home. I do feel for the CMs who have to do a power clean between grads departing and regular opening hours. But it truly needs to be after hours only.
It’s about flippin’ time. Made the mistake of going during a grad nite a few years back. Rude, loud, disrespectful kids pushing and shoving throughout the park. I can only assume their chaperones were parked at Carthay Circle downing tequila shots all day. I’d rather have 4 root canals than be at DL during another grad nite.
In ‘83 I went to Grad Night at Disneyland. We flew down and went to the park after closing. As a student it seemed like a special night because there were only students there. As an adult and parent I would definitely not want to go to Disneyland on a Grad Night. Especially now. The kids are so rude with no respect for anyone. All they care about is themselves. We were told back at our Grad Night that if any of us participated in any shenanigans we would be removed from the park. We took that warning seriously.
Didn’t used to be anything that happened while Park open to public. It was all night with specific high schools attending each night for a couple of weeks. It was great because we were informed of expected behavior and there was a dress code which automatically made kids think about behaving well. It was clear that infractions land you in Disney “jail” and chaperones contacted. Pity it’s not as controlled and just a money maker for Disney rather than a special night for graduates.
Make it to where they have to bring someone over 21 with them or otherwise I agree with canceling this event as teens are too out of control. Parents also need to still parent their kids so they don’t grow up being this disrespectful!
We had Grad nite at Disney World for a long time until 2011. My daughter’s class was the last class to enjoy it. Which is a shame because it was great to go there with all your friends. A few bad apples ruin it for everyone unfortunately. We never had any issues when I went or my daughter’s class either.
I was at Disneyland last Friday evening. It was definitely different there from most other days. Grad night guests with unsavory behavior. It’s not just a teenager thing because on regular days, it’s not like this. It’s because the Grad Night guests are pumped up with the occasion of graduation, like a grad night party on a school campus.
There were Grad Night teenagers behaving like they’re at a sporting event. I’ve seen one yell out to a friend at a distance in a manner that can be intimidating to other guests, especially children. This was like tribal, guttural, heavy metal voice yelling out in the open. I saw a group of them slinking around like the characters in Revenge of the Nerds storming a dormitory, with no restraint on their demeanor. Various aggressive cheering and hollering. Constant F-words being too easily heard from a group of them, in the line for Indy. I actually exited the line and went to the back to start over.
We’re not talking Woodstock ’99 or street take over level. But it was unsavory, unfortunate, and pervasive. I really wish the Disneyland Resort could just stop the Grad Night thing, whatever profits they may have to make up for in other ways. As a measure towards better park-guest relations.
Guests who know Disney, know how to function there and know what they want. Most Grad Night guests are probably one-time visitors who are ignorant and inept to all this. They were probably told by teachers to behave and all that. But that obviously won’t work.
I just attended grad nite for my class. My friends and I had to deal with a lot of rude adults. Now I am aware plenty of students are loud and line cut but I had to deal with adults talk to me in a mocking voice. My friends and I got rude remarks for just trying to get through crowds and just for enjoying ourselves. We weren’t trying or misbehaving we were just trying to enjoy ourselves. It was incredible they shouldn’t stop it all together.

Grad. Ire either needs to end completely or go back to an after hours only event.

These “kids” are adults. Blame their parents, to a point, but most of it is on the teens because they really do know better.

Just move it back to after hours only. Seems like a simple solution. Stupid to have the overlap
