Teachers strike that disrupts the children learning but they don’t get punished I would refuse to pay any fine while teachers can walk off site at the drop of a hat
I understand that every families situation is different. My family, when we could afford a vacation, were scheduled during my school’s summer break. School and work came first.
I feel sorry for you. Enjoying life at every opportunity should be the priority. No one should live to work! We work to live, and enjoy spending with family and friends. Your parents really did a terrible thing to you. When my kids were in school, at the start of every school year, every teacher was informed that my kids were not allowed homework over the weekend, or holidays. That’s family time. PERIOD
Nanny State politics. Sounds like someone’s country went full Marxist. Saving 8k is pretty frugal by anyone’s standards. Children aren’t wards of the state.
Who can afford to even go. I live in the USA, my family sure as heck can’t afford to go , so my kids have not been. Glad these parents did it. Good on them
We are importers in Canada and had to travel overseas. We would take our son out of school since he was 3 years old every year for 3 weeks or a little more to accompany us in our travels. He would continue his school work while travelling and present it when coming back. He learned so much in his travels. I would say he is defenitely more knowledgeable of the world, people and cultures than the majority of people his age. Doing work while away also helped him keep organize and use his time wisely.
He A’s each year of primary and secondary school and this past 3 years kept such a high average at university that has been given a scholarship each year.
I pulled my 4th grade son from school the week after thanksgivings (Nov2022) last year so we could go a Disney Cruise. I’d do it again. I had discussed with his teachers before hand. And made home do all his impending homework during thanksgiving. Break. Homeboy got two weeks off, a Caribbean cruise. Mickey Christmas pictures. I felt like dad of year.
We often traveled with our kids during the school when necessary. Their teachers totally understood and assigned a travel project for them to complete for credit.
WIN WIN Let the kids have the experience while they can.
Good for these parents!! They value time with their children!! And no school or teacher has the right to do what they did!! They’re just mad because they couldn’t continue their indoctrination of these children!! I had this happen with my sons teacher and we went rounds!! Like I explained to her I’m the parent not you and you don’t make life decisions for my son!! I also told the principal the same thing!! We never had a problem again!! Again good for the parents and shame on the school!!
Does the UK have a homeschool option? They could then use that as a part time option? Or even full time, then they could take the children wherever, whenever they please. I understand the right of the public school to enforce rules but mental health of the family should come first. That being said, if you can afford a Disney trip now, you should be able to pay the fine.
Mental health. And your kids will work unskilled, menial jobs for all there lives. Expel them permanently. Ditch diggers are always in short supply. These parents are just choosing lifetime jobs for them now.
So not true. I took my kids out of school because I work in Healthcare and often was unable to be off during the time school was out and my son is a legitimate rocket scientist.
I took my kids out of school multiple times for fun vacat One is a sales manager for IT companies. He’s a top 5 salesman for his entire company. The other is an aerospace engineer that works on top secret defense contracts.
I bet most adults reading this don’t even know what a geodesic dome is… Which my 4 year old readily identified and learned more about when we went to Disney, along with culture, botany&more. What the heck do you think school field trips are for! ? Your righteous indignation is exactly one huge reason homeschooling is on the rise.
I’d take my kids out of that country for good. Schools, and governments don’t own our children! Control freaks. Those kids learned more traveling with their parents than in school!
Saving money in today’s world makes sense. Smart people can save money and still have a good life even with low income, large families or even crazy in-laws. Let the dollar work for you. Only thing they could have done better was: Switch to Geico and save even more money. Why 15 minutes could save you up to 15% or more. I did and look at me now. Sending this message on a genuinely refurbished iphone 4.
Took my kids out of school multiple times for Disney trips and Space Coast. All college graduates and are highly successful in their careers. No regrets.
PERIOD
Sounds more like the educators there are as they are here, rife with an agenda other than a good education for our children, parents who actually believe they know what’s best for their children and want them raised w Judeo Christian values can be such a nuisance and interrupt the brainwashing process all together, a yuge fine is easy, wait gill they start arresting parents who will not allow their children to join their statecentric religion, practice any CRC / Marxist theorem. It’s coming in England and France, I pray this scourge is cleansed from our school system, the earth for that matter, sooner than later.
But why should they incur a fine ??? We took our children out for a few day so we could enjoy a family vacation.. on the grand scale of things what is 2 or 3 days out of school going to do to harm them ? Better to have some family time while you can still grab it ..
I was going to say same thing. All your trips can be used for their schooling education. Like if you went to Washington DC, a totally school credits. Better yet your kids are seeing these things in person versus just seeing in a book. I did it with my daughter for couple years and it was quality family time. Can’t get those years back. So cherish them and forget those schools. My daughter was just issued all the school work ahead of time and had it all done before we left.
Yes Sir, Washington DC that’s the place. Be. Forewarned though make sure you stay away from larger crowds when your family is there. Or, you might be arrested for insurrection.
When I took my kids to Disney they consider it a educational trip they had to a book report on their trip when they got home I would fight this Disney is very educational
In the UK, right now is not as woke as here in the US. We are under constant attacks from the left mainly their gay wing. Watch US programs and TV ads. Then you will understand.
Yeah those silly “leftists” who are against treason, and killing people, and injuring people, and destruction of property. Racism, misogyny, delusion, being a sore losers is SO much cooler. 🙄
It’s no wonder the world laughs at us with comments like yours. I just left London 3 weeks ago and it was humiliating to keep hearing people feel so sorry for us. Horrified that people actually defend insurrection and a delusional megalomanic. I used to travel the world and people were so jealous I was an American. Now they laugh and pity us.
I was a Republican and voted Republican every election until 2020. I embarrassingly admit I voted for trump the first time. But he was the worst President in my lifetime. I blame Fox News for ruining my Party. Being a Republican used to mean States rights, less Government, pro business and traditional values. Trump destroyed it. I’ll never forgive him for that.
Our schools allow for family get a ways if its educational. Just because its Disney doesn’t mean its not educational!! Every trip we take with kids is a learning experience.
Took my 10 & 14 year olds to England, Europe & Greece for a one year absence from their Washington State School. Best education they could have hoped to experience. On return – tested – & entered next normal school year. Thom
I could not afford any thing on that trip i was bought a plane ticket there to deal with a funeral with the boys …we never went too disneyworld they went t o bush gardens while I went to a funeral my family payed everything for me to have to repayment n the future ….
Right lol! Why would people in the UK allow this to get passed? It’s the parents choice not authorities. When I was growing up I never knew a single child to go on vacation and get worse grades. I’m sure it does happen though. They can do school at night while their away as well.
All.The.Time. No grown adult is going to look back on his/her childhood and say yep, that time you pulled me out of school to go to Disney World really messed me up.
That’s what summer vacation is for..
Kids are out of school.kuds shouldn’t be dragged out of school just for a vacation
They have months to go before school starts again
When my son was in school we would take him out to go to Disney, go on cruises, go to Colorado, Tenn, Louisiana….anywhere we wanted. My husband was active duty Navy and his time off was at the whim of the Navy. So when he had time off we traveled. Always made sure our son had his homework assignments and they were done so he could turn them in when we returned. He graduated, joined the USMC and did 4 years, got his college degree and holds a well paying job for a 28 yr old. Taking him out of school to travel did not hurt him at all!!!!
Not going to hurt anything or harm them by snagging a couple of extra days to enjoy a family vacation.. and yes off season is less expensive… my kids were busy all summer with camp …
Why? I was a Bus driver for a board of education and couple of field trips was to a shopping mall. I believe that it’s best for kids to experience it first hand. Summer in Fl are hot
Well Joan, what if the family doesn’t feel that way? What if they have other work or life duties that preclude taking the trip during summer? What ever happened to Mind your own business, Joan? And UK school district, the children don’t belong to you, you’re only charged with educational duties. This is some full on Dystopian craziness.
Hold up school barely teaching the important parts of education like cursive writing let that family live their life to the fullest never know when life will ends. Few days won’t hurt
How sad to see such control of the government on our children. I always plan our Disney vacations the first 2 weeks of school or the last 2 weeks of school because the lack of crowds increases the quality of the expensive experience. Living life to the fullest and building memories is of much more importance than missing a week of classes. Children were never meant to sit in a desk 8 hours a day listening to lectures and have evenings spent on homework anyways. That’s not living life.
We pulled our children out of school for a week for Disney World as they were preschool and Kindergarten. No big deal. It’s too HOT in Orlando during the summer!
We generally would take the kids out of school for trade shows. The food shows had a wide offering of things our kids would be interested in. The long term outcome was they were top students in their school, and are successful independent adults.
When my kids where 6 and 7 we did 14 days at Disneyworld and a 7 day Disney cruise. I saved for 3 years to take them. Loved the tine spent with them and the places they saw on the cruise was great for them. All kinds of science stuff they can learn about on rides lol. Budgeting. Ect, we probly went 4 more times right after thanksgivibg break where they missed school, now they call the cops also in washington state after so many missed days. Grandson whos 5 just missed 2 weeks of school because of a cough and a runny nose they wouldnt let him come back to kindergarten. Thinking I may take him to disneyland for 4 days for halloween this year.
Yes make it an educational trip. Animal kingdom vet area. The care for animals, Epcot the countries different cuisine and customs. Although it was better before pandemic when people were from their respective countries.
If I were them I would fight the fines and bring in essays on what they experienced
I took my 2 boys out of school more.than once for vacations. The teachers were always very nice about it and gave them their homework for the week. (My older son — future Army helicopter pilot — did all of his homework the 1st night in the car so he didn’t have to worry about it.)
They also had to write a little paper about their trip. They also liked reading the Atlas and learned a lot about geography.
No harm whatsoever!!
And a fine — Seriously?? Who does the school think is already supporting them?
(BTW, referencing one comment, so-called “right wingers” appreciate Less govt. intrusion!)
This whole woke culture needs to end. Who cares if they were pulled out of school for this. When I was a kid I would’ve done extra chores to do this during the school year. Family mental health is way more important than education. Without the mental health the family falls apart.
We took our two girls out of school many times to go to WDW throughout their school years. Their teachers welcomed this, but required them to write a journal and include things they were studying when possible. The girls loved doing it…especially since we had long drives from/to PA. They love the journals even more 10 years later! Thank you, teachers!
I still remember the family vacations I took as a kid that required missing a couple of days of school here and there, including Disney World as I grew up in Jacksonville. Actually, I missed days for all sorts of exceptions…field trips, educational excursions, even school-sponsored “award” trios that my school gave to the kids who consistently maintained good grades. Decades later, I now work an honest job where I make enough to pay for my own trips, even in this economy. I turned out just fine.
We always pulled the kids out the week after thanksgiving! Parks were empty and we had a great time. Teachers sent homework with us and wished us the best.
I’m not sure how it works in the UK, but in the U.S., schools are allocated federal funds based on the actual number of school days ATTENDED (not number of students enrolled). This is one of the top reasons why schools and school districts want children to attend every single day. And it is also why city governments, who manage and fund the schools as well as the local police (and let us not forget the governing bodies that oversee and make the local laws), to have the largest annual attendance numbers they can. Not that they don’t care about the education of our children, but making sure they can get as much federal funding as possible has become vital to keeping the school doors open. And this is accomplished by having students in school everyday.
Severe bullying, my mom took me out of school for two months on a family issue to give me a breather from getting my ass beat daily and no one caring.
The vice principal was like none of her teachers will do a work contract for that long! Every…single…teacher made the work contract and sent me on my way because it was the one thing they COULD do to give me a rest from the constant harrassment.
Just bring back Education contracts geeze. The teacher’s sit down with the student, go over what needs to be studied and homework that needs to be done. You do the things they tell you, you dun fall behind. You don’t do the things, you recieved the agreed upon punishment.
We got written permission, from the principal, to take our daughter, a senior, out for 4 days. She hadn’t missed any days at all. And didn’t after our trip. However, when we got back they turned us in to the truancy department.
What? That’s not fair I worked for a board of Education and kids went away all of the time as long as the good there school work that they were going to miss there wasn’t a problem at all. I’m sorry that happened
I take my kids out of school for mental health days. To take a break. Yes, they have weekends to take a break but that’s a forced day off. It’s good to take days off on YOUR time, when YOU feel like it. It helps heal the soul and resets the mind. Screw what anyone else thinks. They’re YOUR kids and it’s YOUR life. You can’t take school with you to Heaven. Time is precious. Why live on someone else’s time? Live on YOUR time. Enjoy your family and friends you’re so alive. If something happens to your kids or your parents you think the school or job would care? Nope, your kids and parents will be replaced by someone else and it’s the family that’ll be hurting. Make those memories and F everyone who disagrees.
Typical liberal Government Control. I m sure. Ill the Blue states will use this U K policy for. Parents. .First boys to wear dresses and get castrated then girls will have mastectomiesand fine parents not going along with it .Thank God we have Ron to save us in Florida keep the sicko perverts out of estate
Hell my kids missed over 100 days of school furniture their school days to go to Disney! Never once did I’d regret it! My kids still graduated top of their class and if they has said no, I WOULD HAVE UNENROLLED THEM FOR THE TRIP AND RE ENROLL THEM WHEN WE GOT BECK! They can’t charge you then. You’re kids aren’t attending their school! Win win
Not everything is equal, nor should it be! Some people work longer and harder than others and if they can afford the trip then they should take it. If anyone really dreams of a Disney vacation then they should save for it and take their children during the school break. My parents would NEVER had even though about taking us out of school for something like this. Seems these days it’s the norm and then the parents complain when their children aren’t keeping up in school.
I live in the U.S. in Illinois. Took kids out of school for a WDW vacation. Went to each teacher, told them about vacation and asked for children’s class and homework for the time we’d be gone. Schoolwork was done in the evenings. All was well.
We took our daughter out of school for a vacation. Disney was part of that. We were gone almost 2 weeks but she really only missed one week of school. I asked for her homework for while we were gone and was not given any because she was almost a full grade ahead of her class. Her teacher felt that her having homework was not fitting for her and instead had her write an essay about what she learned during her trip and present that to the class.
I used to take my daughter out of school every year at the same time to go to Disneyland for vacation. Like this family, I had to take advantage of the off season prices, as I was a single mom. I would always have my daughter get her work in advance, so she wouldn’t miss her assignments. That’s not exciting for her, but she would have fun all day, then do some assignments at night. I would also book a motel across the street rather than staying at a park hotel. That saved too, as well as bringing an ice chest for milk, soda and juice. Then bring cereal and snacks which also helped. Finally, I drove, which saved from airfare. We went in early February, which wasn’t spring break for anyone, so the crowds were considerably small. We typically only waited 10 minutes to get on Indiana Jones, Which was a major attraction like Pirates and The Haunted Mansion. Other attractions, we would walk right on. It was the most enjoyable way to do a Disneyland vacation, and be able to get the mist for your money. You didn’t have to wait hours to get on one ride. A summer trip would typically only see you being able to ride a handful of big attractions. Early February, and you could ride all of them, multiple times. Driving was a huge save. Round trip, although a long drive, was around $50.00. I only had to fill up 3 times, and only to top off the tank, as I could go almost the whole way on a little over a tank. Sometimes you just have to yank your kids out of school to have a vacation together, and do it economically.
I would have to see documentation to prove that this isn’t true. As I said earlier in a post, the same thing happened to my family! So there is truth to the story!
My daughter is THRIVING in virtual school. We love the flexibility and the ability to travel when we want and she can accelerate in subjects she is stronger in. Scolding adults when their children are obviously doing well is ridiculous. I’m in the US though. Not sure if this is offered in the UK. ( Connections Academy)
I don’t see the problem if skipping a few days of school? My parents would take us out a week for family vacations and ask for the school work we would be doing in advance.
It’s not the fine or taking out the kids out of school or anything else, it about the travel agency etc ripping us off and charging extortionate prices during school holidays. What a huge difference from the fine to £8,000! Come on now! Are you telling me travel companies are looking out for people?!? I’d do the same weather I was in a high paid job or not.!
They hate family and family values. Taking a vacation during school takes away from their indoctrination time. Shame on the UK school system for not differentiating between delinquent parents and good parenting.
Since when does Disney get involved in personal family. How do they know you didn’t have the child’s school work with you. Absolutely ridiculous. Family first! Everything else is second in life. Things happen unexpectedly. We need to cherish every moment we get with our families. Check out the epidemic! I’ve told my own kids out of school to go to Disneyland. Never again! We had the same problem with how we were treated at disney. Luckily my ex-wife was able to convince them that we want every penny back we spent. And guess what! We got it! I’m so sorry to hear that your vacation was interrupted by people that have nothing to do!
I don’t understand the issue. We’ve visited abroad before and cleared it through the school and got homework from the teachers! Surely the UK school system has that option available to them?
As a former school teacher kids can always make up the work and besides anything taught by their teachers can’t be that important. Nothing is that important
My grandkids missed an entire YEAR of school due to Covid (minus a few days)! My thinking is – if the schools can not be too concerned about that, it certainly is not going to damage them to miss a week or two to do something pleasurable.
And this is why we homeschool! I love the freedom to do what we want when we want. We never vacation when kids are out of school. The off season not only saves money but also time as there’s less crowds.
Any school admins thinking they control my children, or my family’s activitys can go straight to hell. I remember the times I would leave school anywhere from a week to 3 weeks each year to go hunting with my father. I never made up lost work and graduated top 18% of my class of 680 students.
Any school admins thinking they control my children, or my family’s activitys can go straight to hell. I remember the times I would leave school anywhere from a week to 3 weeks each year to go hunting with my father. I never made up lost work and graduated top 18% of my class of 680 students.
You’re children’s education and learning about how to prioritize are way more important than a vacation regardless of if it’s cheaper in the off season or not
Some of the same issues happened to me and my brother when we were younger. Other parents were allowed to take thier kids out to go hunting and on vacations, and when my dad was finally able to afford to bring us the principal okayed it, and my brother and I had to do work a week ahead of time and make a whole journal about our trip. When we got back the principal had an assembly made certain kids who missed to many days go to school on the weekends. My brother and I was part of the group who had to go to school on the weekends. My parents were mad!
It could be a educational trip for the kids therefore there should be no fine or maybe they could home school them for the time they missed out of school but no fine
We are having a big family Disney World vacation the last part of Sept to the first part of Oct 2023. There will be several family members taking thier kids out of school for 2 weeks. There isn’t any issue doing that and the kids will have extra work before going so they don’t fall to far behind. I think it’s so wrong to get a find for taking your child on a family vacation if it’s prearranged.
That’s ridiculous! We took our kids (ages 8-15) out of school several times for trips to Disneyworld back in the late 1990’s. The teachers gave the kids assignments to be completed and we made sure the work was done. I remember one year on the airplane one of our boys was rehearsing a speech he had to give (high school) and he received compliments from complete strangers for being so well spoken. Our children are all well-educated and are very successful, independent adults. Travel and different experiences really help.
Hi! Ι could have sworn I’ve been tο this blⲟg before but ɑfter reading thrоugh some of
the post I realized it’s new to me. Nonetheless, I’m
definitely happy I found it and Ӏ’ll be book-marking and checking back often!
Took my 10 & 14 year olds to England, Europe & Greece for a one year absence from their Washington State School. Best education they could have hoped to experience. On return – tested – & entered next normal school year. Thom
I had a teacher threaten to fine me once lol I laughed in her face and said I will withdraw my children from state education . Never threatened me again. And trust me my sister did withdraw her children authorities begged for them to go back even got 1st choice school f there system of control stand up for your rights family time is just as important
Since when is the authority’s rights over your children more powerful than the parents?
This is crazy! I took my little out of school for three days to go to NYC before Christmas and I took her out three days before spring break to go to Europe.
The travels give children jnsite on the world, things they only read about. If the parents were neglecting the kids that’s one thing but for the UK to fine them for a holiday, that’s rubbish.
Homeschool or Independent Studies! Public schools cannot tell parents what they can or cannot do! That is absolutely ridiculous and just a way to control people. I would definitely fight the school on that and let them know what I think about telling me what to do with my kids. NOT OK!!
Nowadays schools get funded based on attendance. I fully understand what this family is going through. As soon as the kids go on summer break the airline tickets double in price. Who can afford that?
I look at it this way if the mom and dad want to take a trip with their kids then that is there business. It sounds to me the new king is trying to control everyone and thing over there you guys work hard your kids work hard so take your trips. And this is one time I would say if they have to move out of that country and move where the fun is here in fl 🙂
I took my children out of school the last week before Christmas break in 2018 for a Disney World trip to celebrate my daughter’s 7th birthday that year. My family and I cherish those memories til this day. We were actually just looking at the photos and talking about how our experience that year being much better than the 2021 Disney World vacation which we took in August. My opinion being that summer is the worst time because of the heat. Some parents don’t just rely on the school system to teach their children therefore they know their child’s educational needs. For this family who is creating memories with their children while trying to save money should not be fined. The fact that the oldest has proven that her going on vacation did not affect her SAT score. God bless this family and I pray they come out on top of this situation and continue to make memories with their family.
Ummmm… what about the schools closing during the pandemic for weeks if not months? How much did children’s education suffer then? No one is being held accountable for that missed class room time. At this point, any governing body, or educational authoritative body trying to say how my child will be adversely effected by my actions can just go ahead a lick the bottom of my shoe.
This story originated in Europe where some countries actually outlaw homeschooling, so this isn’t really a surprise.
Took me grandchildren out of school to the west indies, had a left wing teacher and headmaster tell me that i could not do it ha ha. They said that I would be fined for 2 children, for 2 weeks so I said to them bring it on, there reason for this was that nobody else at the school could afford to do the same. This is the same school that on sports day said nobody has to try to win!!! No wonder children don’t know if they are coming or going
I see no problem problem with spending quality family time learning about other countries. School is important but so are those memories and lessons about family.
Our daughter was taken out of school every year for 3 weeks for our birthdays/vacations. Every time teachers would say couldn’t do but have a great time and here’s her homework! Daughter was valedictorian! Keep being good parents and have fun with your kids giving them a lifetime a great memories!
Spir of the moments trips are good for anyone and if you have to get into someone’s personal life to judge them ,then you ha e time to worry about gun control and drug acts in your town, besides did you pay foe their trip..didn’t think so…butt out not your business..
I don’t think they should be shamed.or.punished for that. Family is always First. Like mentioned NOT everyone can afford a Family Trip and if they had that opportunity that is good if they took it ! God Bless That Family. Amén 🙏🏼🌹
I live in Florida and grew up going to Disney parks like every weekend and sometimes even during the school week……luckily my mom wrote notes excusing me from school cause she was taking me to Disney for the “educational experience ” like the hall of presidents or epcots countries of the world lol I ❤️ my mom!!!!
Amen to those parents for taking their kids on vacation and pulling them out of school to do it I’d do it in a heartbeat we’ve done it before years ago and my one son took a camping trip to go hunting with his dad and was praised by the teacher and asked our son to write a report on this camping trip and gave him an A+
I took my boys out of school for a 10 day trip to Disney after their dad walked out on us. Besides completely enjoying the trip, they also learned a lot from being outside of their bubble (we live in a national forest and have no neighbors so they’re extremely secluded)..
I did have to get permission from the school but that was no problem. The granted it with no questions asked
My parents took my brother and I out of school when my dad is home from truck driving. I don’t know if they ever get any repercussions for it. When I moved my kids out of state with 15 days left of school (father didn’t want to pay for two separate rents) we had dcf called on us for truancy, but I had alerted the school that we were moving and when I spoke to the new school, they told us we can wait for the new year since it’s almost over. It was hell for the next few months being watched for anything to go wrong.
The school system doesn’t own the children, if me as a parent want to take my kids out of school for any reason, I have the right to. As long as we the parents know about it, the school has no business questioning me. In this case, the people were just being honest with the school where there are many kids who cut out to go to laser tag without telling their parents. Focus your resources in getting truants back in the classroom, not threaten a family with a fine if they want to go to Disney Resort. A very sad day in our society when others think they can tell us what to do with our children (I’m obviously not talking about abuse, that’s totally different
My family & I have been Native Anaheimers for Over 50 years. I also worked for Disneyland & Disney California Adventure. My schedule was Always crazy with Disney & I use to pull my kids out school for Mini vacations, HERE IN ANAHEIM while I had to work. I rent hotel rooms with big pools & make sure that there were restaurants around so they could walk to get something to eat & they Loved it. At this point in our lives I became a single parent & they were becoming preteens. I was working 2 jobs alone & doing these Mini vacations were Perfect for us. I’d leave for my first job in the morning after I dropped them off for school, have my kids meet me at the local (right across the street from Disneyland McDonalds) have a quick early dinner for them a quick snack for them, get them set up in the neighboring hotel room & let them either walk around Disneyland inside or just hang out in the hotel & go swimming. My Disney shift would end at about 01:00AM & walk over to the hotel & crash there. My children were Impeccable students. 2 of my 3 son’s Graduated Early from high school when the were both at 16. My daughter Graduated with honors & even was given several Medical Scholarship’s at the end of her High School career. I don’t regret one day of how my children were brought up the DISNEY WAY & from this day on they STILL TALK ABOUT HOW THERE MOM WOULD TAKE THEM OUT OF SCHOOL TO GO TO DISNEYLAND & OUR MINI VACTIONS to there own children 🥰🥰🥰
PS. I forgot to add there were many of days I HAD TO take them out of school because of my work schedule with Disney & do our mini vacation like I wrote previously & again WORTH EVER MOMENT OF IT. Well they thought so anyways ☺️🤣😉🤣😉🤣
Comments for Family Fined Hundreds For Criminal Activity on Disney Vacation
Dumb
What if they don’t pay the fine and instead go to the beach?
Roz
But they’d still be taking them out of school wouldn’t they

Teachers strike that disrupts the children learning but they don’t get punished I would refuse to pay any fine while teachers can walk off site at the drop of a hat

I understand that every families situation is different. My family, when we could afford a vacation, were scheduled during my school’s summer break. School and work came first.
Felix
My family was bold have good grades and let’s leave when everyone else is working. Less crowd and a lot more fun. Work hard play harder .🤘🏽

PERIOD
David
Didn’t you read the article? They said they gave €8,000 by going in the of season
Cory
Nanny State politics. Sounds like someone’s country went full Marxist. Saving 8k is pretty frugal by anyone’s standards. Children aren’t wards of the state.
Kathie
Who can afford to even go. I live in the USA, my family sure as heck can’t afford to go , so my kids have not been. Glad these parents did it. Good on them
Johanna Mansilla
We are importers in Canada and had to travel overseas. We would take our son out of school since he was 3 years old every year for 3 weeks or a little more to accompany us in our travels. He would continue his school work while travelling and present it when coming back. He learned so much in his travels. I would say he is defenitely more knowledgeable of the world, people and cultures than the majority of people his age. Doing work while away also helped him keep organize and use his time wisely.
He A’s each year of primary and secondary school and this past 3 years kept such a high average at university that has been given a scholarship each year.
Ken
I pulled my 4th grade son from school the week after thanksgivings (Nov2022) last year so we could go a Disney Cruise. I’d do it again. I had discussed with his teachers before hand. And made home do all his impending homework during thanksgiving. Break. Homeboy got two weeks off, a Caribbean cruise. Mickey Christmas pictures. I felt like dad of year.
Verla
Still a good deal
Donna
We often traveled with our kids during the school when necessary. Their teachers totally understood and assigned a travel project for them to complete for credit.
WIN WIN Let the kids have the experience while they can.
Cyndy
Good for these parents!! They value time with their children!! And no school or teacher has the right to do what they did!! They’re just mad because they couldn’t continue their indoctrination of these children!! I had this happen with my sons teacher and we went rounds!! Like I explained to her I’m the parent not you and you don’t make life decisions for my son!! I also told the principal the same thing!! We never had a problem again!! Again good for the parents and shame on the school!!
Ann
Does the UK have a homeschool option? They could then use that as a part time option? Or even full time, then they could take the children wherever, whenever they please. I understand the right of the public school to enforce rules but mental health of the family should come first. That being said, if you can afford a Disney trip now, you should be able to pay the fine.
Fuzzy
Mental health. And your kids will work unskilled, menial jobs for all there lives. Expel them permanently. Ditch diggers are always in short supply. These parents are just choosing lifetime jobs for them now.
Meli
So not true. I took my kids out of school because I work in Healthcare and often was unable to be off during the time school was out and my son is a legitimate rocket scientist.
Dana
I took my kids out of school multiple times for fun vacat One is a sales manager for IT companies. He’s a top 5 salesman for his entire company. The other is an aerospace engineer that works on top secret defense contracts.
C. C.

Ha. I skipped most of school, taught myself software engineering and make top 5% income.

I’d take my kids out of that country for good. Schools, and governments don’t own our children! Control freaks. Those kids learned more traveling with their parents than in school!
Glenn Parker
The only thing they are missing out on is indoctrination.
Ed Jarden
Saving money in today’s world makes sense. Smart people can save money and still have a good life even with low income, large families or even crazy in-laws. Let the dollar work for you. Only thing they could have done better was: Switch to Geico and save even more money. Why 15 minutes could save you up to 15% or more. I did and look at me now. Sending this message on a genuinely refurbished iphone 4.

My mom took me out
of school 1 time ?. .
The Sooz
Yep, here at Disney with our kids right now! Cherish the memories ✨️ 💖

Family First. School should mind there own business
Ralphy
I totally agree. It’s not like they can’t make up the work…
Fran
Took my kids out of school multiple times for Disney trips and Space Coast. All college graduates and are highly successful in their careers. No regrets.
Ronald
You sound like schools aren’t just a way to indoctrinate and it sure enough worked wonders for you
Scarlett Katie

Sounds more like the educators there are as they are here, rife with an agenda other than a good education for our children, parents who actually believe they know what’s best for their children and want them raised w Judeo Christian values can be such a nuisance and interrupt the brainwashing process all together, a yuge fine is easy, wait gill they start arresting parents who will not allow their children to join their statecentric religion, practice any CRC / Marxist theorem. It’s coming in England and France, I pray this scourge is cleansed from our school system, the earth for that matter, sooner than later.
Roz
But why should they incur a fine ??? We took our children out for a few day so we could enjoy a family vacation.. on the grand scale of things what is 2 or 3 days out of school going to do to harm them ? Better to have some family time while you can still grab it ..
Sandra
UK schools, not US
Strawberry
Most UK vacations or holidays are 14 to 21 days long…not 2 to 3 days.
Scarlett Katie
Exactly! They will be fine missing a few days, and what are they doing with the money from the fine? Where does that go?
NeeNee
I was going to say same thing. All your trips can be used for their schooling education. Like if you went to Washington DC, a totally school credits. Better yet your kids are seeing these things in person versus just seeing in a book. I did it with my daughter for couple years and it was quality family time. Can’t get those years back. So cherish them and forget those schools. My daughter was just issued all the school work ahead of time and had it all done before we left.
Anthony Ryan t
Yes Sir, Washington DC that’s the place. Be. Forewarned though make sure you stay away from larger crowds when your family is there. Or, you might be arrested for insurrection.
Nightwingsauce
Only if you are storming the capital building attempting to violently overturn a fair election. 🙄
Sandy
When I took my kids to Disney they consider it a educational trip they had to a book report on their trip when they got home I would fight this Disney is very educational
Anthony Ryan t
In the UK, right now is not as woke as here in the US. We are under constant attacks from the left mainly their gay wing. Watch US programs and TV ads. Then you will understand.
Laura Beauregard
Larry
That’s the smartest comment I ever heard

This is the most asinine thing I’ve read today

Our schools allow for family get a ways if its educational. Just because its Disney doesn’t mean its not educational!! Every trip we take with kids is a learning experience.

I could not afford any thing on that trip i was bought a plane ticket there to deal with a funeral with the boys …we never went too disneyworld they went t o bush gardens while I went to a funeral my family payed everything for me to have to repayment n the future ….
Molly
Yup. God bless America.
Roz
Was in the UK
Michael
What does America have to do with this? The family was BRITISH, you Twit!
Sandra
Why the name-calling? Learn how to scroll.
Lawrence
Right lol! Why would people in the UK allow this to get passed? It’s the parents choice not authorities. When I was growing up I never knew a single child to go on vacation and get worse grades. I’m sure it does happen though. They can do school at night while their away as well.
Laurie
All.The.Time. No grown adult is going to look back on his/her childhood and say yep, that time you pulled me out of school to go to Disney World really messed me up.
Roz
Absolutely!!!!
Joan
That’s what summer vacation is for..
Kids are out of school.kuds shouldn’t be dragged out of school just for a vacation
They have months to go before school starts again
Joh. Sawyer
But they even with the fine they still saved 7500£ by not going during the summer. I would have done the same thing
Paula Wynn
Believe me, Disney in the summer is a hot, humid HELL!!!
Rhonda
When my son was in school we would take him out to go to Disney, go on cruises, go to Colorado, Tenn, Louisiana….anywhere we wanted. My husband was active duty Navy and his time off was at the whim of the Navy. So when he had time off we traveled. Always made sure our son had his homework assignments and they were done so he could turn them in when we returned. He graduated, joined the USMC and did 4 years, got his college degree and holds a well paying job for a 28 yr old. Taking him out of school to travel did not hurt him at all!!!!
Roz
Not going to hurt anything or harm them by snagging a couple of extra days to enjoy a family vacation.. and yes off season is less expensive… my kids were busy all summer with camp …
JENNIFER N
Noone with a brain goes to Disney in the summer- the heat index is over 100 most days. I live nearby…we don’t dare go outside if we don’t need to
Mad Hatter
I’ll take 100 over 50 any day.
Stephen
Why? I was a Bus driver for a board of education and couple of field trips was to a shopping mall. I believe that it’s best for kids to experience it first hand. Summer in Fl are hot
LC
Well Joan, what if the family doesn’t feel that way? What if they have other work or life duties that preclude taking the trip during summer? What ever happened to Mind your own business, Joan? And UK school district, the children don’t belong to you, you’re only charged with educational duties. This is some full on Dystopian craziness.
Moe
Hold up school barely teaching the important parts of education like cursive writing let that family live their life to the fullest never know when life will ends. Few days won’t hurt
Kristine
I guarantee those kids are going to remember that Disney vacation over anything that they would have learned in school.
Krissy
How sad to see such control of the government on our children. I always plan our Disney vacations the first 2 weeks of school or the last 2 weeks of school because the lack of crowds increases the quality of the expensive experience. Living life to the fullest and building memories is of much more importance than missing a week of classes. Children were never meant to sit in a desk 8 hours a day listening to lectures and have evenings spent on homework anyways. That’s not living life.
Kirby
Thank the right wingers for the draconian rules that force their limited world view on others
Lorraine
This is the UK not the US, what kind of comment was that? People like you are part of the problem everywhere!
U
The left is so obsessed with the right, they can’t see how wrong they are!
Elaine
We pulled our children out of school for a week for Disney World as they were preschool and Kindergarten. No big deal. It’s too HOT in Orlando during the summer!
Mart D
We generally would take the kids out of school for trade shows. The food shows had a wide offering of things our kids would be interested in. The long term outcome was they were top students in their school, and are successful independent adults.
Brenda
Ed
Did it 2 weeks every year. My kids are very successful. They remember those trips together.
R
Me too with my 3 children. All kids had high honors. Both my daughters graduated a year early. Time with family is important.
Peggy
Yes make it an educational trip. Animal kingdom vet area. The care for animals, Epcot the countries different cuisine and customs. Although it was better before pandemic when people were from their respective countries.
If I were them I would fight the fines and bring in essays on what they experienced
Maria
The international cultural representatives have returned to Epcot. They started coming back last summer.
Candice
“ Officials repeatedly scolded the Bensons and told them their two school-aged children would suffer from missing classes for a Disney vacation.”
Well, I can give you a few Utuber Families who don’t Home School their children, but always go during the school year and not just during Vacation
Fuzzy
It Uber. Now that’s quality.
EG
I took my 2 boys out of school more.than once for vacations. The teachers were always very nice about it and gave them their homework for the week. (My older son — future Army helicopter pilot — did all of his homework the 1st night in the car so he didn’t have to worry about it.)
They also had to write a little paper about their trip. They also liked reading the Atlas and learned a lot about geography.
No harm whatsoever!!
And a fine — Seriously?? Who does the school think is already supporting them?
(BTW, referencing one comment, so-called “right wingers” appreciate Less govt. intrusion!)
Peter
The UK doesn’t have SATs. The call their exams “A” Levels.
Dylan
This whole woke culture needs to end. Who cares if they were pulled out of school for this. When I was a kid I would’ve done extra chores to do this during the school year. Family mental health is way more important than education. Without the mental health the family falls apart.
Larry
Good point, maybe the school system wants the family order to be destroyed
tim Pieples
We took our two girls out of school many times to go to WDW throughout their school years. Their teachers welcomed this, but required them to write a journal and include things they were studying when possible. The girls loved doing it…especially since we had long drives from/to PA. They love the journals even more 10 years later! Thank you, teachers!
Paul W
I still remember the family vacations I took as a kid that required missing a couple of days of school here and there, including Disney World as I grew up in Jacksonville. Actually, I missed days for all sorts of exceptions…field trips, educational excursions, even school-sponsored “award” trios that my school gave to the kids who consistently maintained good grades. Decades later, I now work an honest job where I make enough to pay for my own trips, even in this economy. I turned out just fine.
Tricia
We are on a Disney vacation right now!
L
We always pulled the kids out the week after thanksgiving! Parks were empty and we had a great time. Teachers sent homework with us and wished us the best.
Geoff R
Akuin
Severe bullying, my mom took me out of school for two months on a family issue to give me a breather from getting my ass beat daily and no one caring.
The vice principal was like none of her teachers will do a work contract for that long! Every…single…teacher made the work contract and sent me on my way because it was the one thing they COULD do to give me a rest from the constant harrassment.
Just bring back Education contracts geeze. The teacher’s sit down with the student, go over what needs to be studied and homework that needs to be done. You do the things they tell you, you dun fall behind. You don’t do the things, you recieved the agreed upon punishment.
erjen
We got written permission, from the principal, to take our daughter, a senior, out for 4 days. She hadn’t missed any days at all. And didn’t after our trip. However, when we got back they turned us in to the truancy department.
Stephen
What? That’s not fair I worked for a board of Education and kids went away all of the time as long as the good there school work that they were going to miss there wasn’t a problem at all. I’m sorry that happened
Mark
So did Disney charge them or the school district ?
Deb
All parents I know are happy to pay the fine ( in the UK) as going in term time saves thousands
Delaney
What’s wrong with taking your kids out of school for a few days for a family vacation?! Nothing in my opinion!
Alice
Rich
Might time to move to the US, so you dint have to deal wuth that twit school administration or their cronies.
The Great. Santini
The Great. Santini
Keep the sickos out of our state
Mindy
Hell my kids missed over 100 days of school furniture their school days to go to Disney! Never once did I’d regret it! My kids still graduated top of their class and if they has said no, I WOULD HAVE UNENROLLED THEM FOR THE TRIP AND RE ENROLL THEM WHEN WE GOT BECK! They can’t charge you then. You’re kids aren’t attending their school! Win win
Jay
I think that’s because they can’t do it them self. To enjoy something new in ones life time on this Earth.
Jay

Not everything is equal, nor should it be! Some people work longer and harder than others and if they can afford the trip then they should take it. If anyone really dreams of a Disney vacation then they should save for it and take their children during the school break. My parents would NEVER had even though about taking us out of school for something like this. Seems these days it’s the norm and then the parents complain when their children aren’t keeping up in school.
Sharon
I live in the U.S. in Illinois. Took kids out of school for a WDW vacation. Went to each teacher, told them about vacation and asked for children’s class and homework for the time we’d be gone. Schoolwork was done in the evenings. All was well.
Samantha
We took our daughter out of school for a vacation. Disney was part of that. We were gone almost 2 weeks but she really only missed one week of school. I asked for her homework for while we were gone and was not given any because she was almost a full grade ahead of her class. Her teacher felt that her having homework was not fitting for her and instead had her write an essay about what she learned during her trip and present that to the class.
Bella
So what if you take them out of school! Lifelong memories to cherish forever are way better than some stuck up school!
Terry
Irena
Who is writting those false articals every day? Are you out of your mind?
None of it is true.
Thomas levasseur
I would have to see documentation to prove that this isn’t true. As I said earlier in a post, the same thing happened to my family! So there is truth to the story!
Tabbie
My daughter is THRIVING in virtual school. We love the flexibility and the ability to travel when we want and she can accelerate in subjects she is stronger in. Scolding adults when their children are obviously doing well is ridiculous. I’m in the US though. Not sure if this is offered in the UK. ( Connections Academy)
SL
I don’t see the problem if skipping a few days of school? My parents would take us out a week for family vacations and ask for the school work we would be doing in advance.
M.
Stacey
They hate family and family values. Taking a vacation during school takes away from their indoctrination time. Shame on the UK school system for not differentiating between delinquent parents and good parenting.
Stephen
As long as the kids were caught up on the school work they miss why should there be a fine?
Thomas levasseur
Cins11
I don’t understand the issue. We’ve visited abroad before and cleared it through the school and got homework from the teachers! Surely the UK school system has that option available to them?
Steve
As a former school teacher kids can always make up the work and besides anything taught by their teachers can’t be that important. Nothing is that important
Denise
My grandkids missed an entire YEAR of school due to Covid (minus a few days)! My thinking is – if the schools can not be too concerned about that, it certainly is not going to damage them to miss a week or two to do something pleasurable.
Aimee
And this is why we homeschool! I love the freedom to do what we want when we want. We never vacation when kids are out of school. The off season not only saves money but also time as there’s less crowds.
SAM
Any school admins thinking they control my children, or my family’s activitys can go straight to hell. I remember the times I would leave school anywhere from a week to 3 weeks each year to go hunting with my father. I never made up lost work and graduated top 18% of my class of 680 students.

You’re children’s education and learning about how to prioritize are way more important than a vacation regardless of if it’s cheaper in the off season or not
Jade
Wow jealous much
Jade
Who hasn’t done this during the school year with their children? Oh wait millions of families EVERY YEAR
Corissa
Some of the same issues happened to me and my brother when we were younger. Other parents were allowed to take thier kids out to go hunting and on vacations, and when my dad was finally able to afford to bring us the principal okayed it, and my brother and I had to do work a week ahead of time and make a whole journal about our trip. When we got back the principal had an assembly made certain kids who missed to many days go to school on the weekends. My brother and I was part of the group who had to go to school on the weekends. My parents were mad!
Kathryn Seay
In Texas, if you pull your kid out of public school and try to homeschool them, the teachers call CPS and open a case.
Martin
If they open a go fund me account, I would gladly donate. It’s the least we can do
Yvette
It could be a educational trip for the kids therefore there should be no fine or maybe they could home school them for the time they missed out of school but no fine
Tammy
We are having a big family Disney World vacation the last part of Sept to the first part of Oct 2023. There will be several family members taking thier kids out of school for 2 weeks. There isn’t any issue doing that and the kids will have extra work before going so they don’t fall to far behind. I think it’s so wrong to get a find for taking your child on a family vacation if it’s prearranged.
Anne
That’s ridiculous! We took our kids (ages 8-15) out of school several times for trips to Disneyworld back in the late 1990’s. The teachers gave the kids assignments to be completed and we made sure the work was done. I remember one year on the airplane one of our boys was rehearsing a speech he had to give (high school) and he received compliments from complete strangers for being so well spoken. Our children are all well-educated and are very successful, independent adults. Travel and different experiences really help.
Angie
That dum they can go when they want its there children come on please

I had a teacher threaten to fine me once lol I laughed in her face and said I will withdraw my children from state education . Never threatened me again. And trust me my sister did withdraw her children authorities begged for them to go back even got 1st choice school f there system of control stand up for your rights family time is just as important
Krystina
Since when is the authority’s rights over your children more powerful than the parents?
This is crazy! I took my little out of school for three days to go to NYC before Christmas and I took her out three days before spring break to go to Europe.
The travels give children jnsite on the world, things they only read about. If the parents were neglecting the kids that’s one thing but for the UK to fine them for a holiday, that’s rubbish.
Julie
Homeschool or Independent Studies! Public schools cannot tell parents what they can or cannot do! That is absolutely ridiculous and just a way to control people. I would definitely fight the school on that and let them know what I think about telling me what to do with my kids. NOT OK!!
Kevin McFarland
Nowadays schools get funded based on attendance. I fully understand what this family is going through. As soon as the kids go on summer break the airline tickets double in price. Who can afford that?
Amy
I look at it this way if the mom and dad want to take a trip with their kids then that is there business. It sounds to me the new king is trying to control everyone and thing over there you guys work hard your kids work hard so take your trips. And this is one time I would say if they have to move out of that country and move where the fun is here in fl 🙂
Timithy
Been to Disney 2x don’t go anymore also lived in st.augustine since 1964 not now government only care about rich people.
Jenna

Or hey home school instead of mass indoctrination is cool too

Spir of the moments trips are good for anyone and if you have to get into someone’s personal life to judge them ,then you ha e time to worry about gun control and drug acts in your town, besides did you pay foe their trip..didn’t think so…butt out not your business..

I don’t think they should be shamed.or.punished for that. Family is always First. Like mentioned NOT everyone can afford a Family Trip and if they had that opportunity that is good if they took it ! God Bless That Family. Amén 🙏🏼🌹

And there you go
