First, DeSantis has skin like tissue paper for basically telling a private company to come to a heel or he’ll do everything possible to damage or destroy them. That’s not what government is tasked at doing. They have a 1st amendment right and punishing them for using it is un-American. Even if you disagree with them.
Do I think Chapek should have stayed quiet? Yeah, I do. Mainly because his statement didn’t change a thing, except cause extreme financial damage to the company AND cause taxpayers to pay for the legal battle the state has brought. Overall, the way I see it. Disney exercised their constitutional right and DeSantis showed what a weak person he is by retaliating…….this is on DeSantis, not Disney. And Disney should not “stand down” as Pence suggests……that’s why someone like DeSantis gets away with stuff like this……Disney should beat DeSantis at his own game…….which in the end, I think they will. Let’s see how “great” DeSantis is when he costs the state $17B in investments and more that 15,000 jobs………this handed Newsom a nice big win…….good move DeSantis……cut your nose off to spite your face.
I think both sides should stop the bull! And Disney should stop the “woke” movement. Disney is suppose to be a happy place for families to enjoy doing things with their children. I don’t believe that changing child gender and gay stuff be pushed on children. Parents are the ones who should explain this to their children not strangers, teachers, or Disney.
Get real. Do you even understand what “woke” means? Your right about one thing. Parents SHOULD EXPLAIN … TO THEIR CHILDREN that not everyone in this world was cut fron the same cookie cutter and, that it isn’t a crime to be different than the person you see in the mirror. The problem is that there are a great many parents who teach their kids that anyone different from them is bad or demented. Are you one of these?
Thanks, Phil. You spoke my mind very well. And kids understand quite a lot at a much earlier age than those people seem to realize. The world has changed since I was born in 1957, and I am happy it has. The immense diversity of humanity is a gift and we shouldn’t be trying to erase it.
There was a prophecy that said, “The final battle between Good and Evil would be about the Family”. That prophecy has come true with a vengeance . It started with this Disney thing and how many stories have we seen about Drag Queens, and children’s book on “grooming”.
I partly agree about Chapek. I don’t think he should have stayed silent; the CMs who expect support from their employer deserve more. He should have spoken up right away, but made a statement simply supporting the many LGBTQ employees at Disney, and letting DeSantis know that Disney values ALL its people and discriminates against none. Saying that the company would work to support politicians and groups who want to overturn the law was almost certainly what got DeSantis (notoriously thin-skinned) to fly off the rails.
Very well said. Enough of the woke crap. If you are not about the diversity that this country stands for. Go away.
If you want to live in the 40’s and 50’s move to Florida. I will be one of the ones leaving.
Governor Florida’s not fit to be the governor hes neglected his own people in the state for this fight to be president. He doesn’t have the skills the personality the knowledge to run the state of Florida. Let alone the president of the United States. He’s money hungry he cares about his self only. There’s people in Florida that can’t eat have no food. Yes people they don’t have food here but he goes out Spends $12000 on a dinner in my. Rayleigh hides his income from the people of Florida so they know how much his money is going out to him. From Texas for his galley vent all over the United States on his book tour who hides that he does Disney should be left alone. There’s never been any problem with Disney. And all these years. They paid their fair share. Is he gonna do all this now pick it up when people go out to business? That’s what hes done? Is he gonna pay the unemployment fees for all those people of Disney leaves? Don’t ever underestimate Disney? He’s way over his head on this he doesn’t really. Realize what? He’s? Doing to. The people? He just doesn’t? Care. Everybody has a right to live their life. They would want to and God loves all of us no matter what our desires and the way we live. It’s not us that have to answer to the man upstairs. It’s the people that live their lives and how they’re. How dare he stands up and says that he caused a hurricane to go away from Florida? Do you people even listen to this man? Do you have a fat check anything he says I doubt it?
Where is the outcry from Floridians for having to pay his salary while he seek other employment. Floridians should not pay him he should resign. Instead he passes a law for Floridians to continue to pay his salary while he seek other employment. How many companies do you know that will pay you for looking for other employment. That should be on the ballot for Floridians to vote on not a self serving law to keep your job while seeking other employment.
Yeah, I’d take a bit different tact in this arguement. Even though this arguement has gone on to long and is bad business and bad politics, Disney can’t all in one week declare that half of the people who used to subscribe to Disney + have stopped their subscriptions, they’ve lost their India rights to major channels and with it 3/4 subscribers, they need to close their new Star Wars Hotel experience, had major programing flops in movies and shows so they are canceling a bunch of shows already in production, and then place all the blame of closing aspirations of Lake Nona on DeSantis. As a business geared for long term, they would know that Desantis’ term is likely short and all they need to do is wait. It is cheaper to live in Florida than California. And the project would make sense long term but at the moment, Disney is hemeraging money. Their stock is falling fast. And with all the news and failures they are enduring, less people are wanting to support Disney. More and more people are planning to go to Universal (especially after Epic). So, closing aspirations of Lake Nona was likely a business decision not of political fruition but of the consequence the business plays by not succeeding. Disney needs to get back to its roots and it’s basics. Build experiences people want, make original programing that people want, make it more affordable to attract a new base, and get back to the magic.
Jeremy, you are right. I cannot believe how many people are buying into the bull Disney is putting out. Iger is trying to blame De Santis for Disney’s problems. The Disney brand has suffered from Disney management. We are long time Disney fans that will never go back to Disney unless they make some major changes and restore some of the benefits they used to provide to their guests. Universal looks like a much better experience.
To understand all that has transpired, you need to understand that the Disney company is made up of many separate division, each with their own financial records. The media division includes film, tv and streaming. The streaming service has hit a major speedbump for reasons I haven’t really followed, as I don’t watch a lot of any TV. The film division needs to up its creative game and stop rebooting animated classics as “live action.” They have some of the best minds in the business; time to put them to use.
The parks division is doing great financially, recovering very well from the pandemic shutdown (people REALLY wanted to go back, myself included). The Lake Nona project was for the Imagineering division, which is parks based. It was also a Chapek idea and wildly unpopular. Since the Imagineers work with the film division to create new attractions, having them on the other side of the country was a dumb idea. And Disney lost a bunch of talent who quit rather than being forced to relocate. Pulling the plug on the plan was probably due to a few reasons. Disney is flexing its economic muscle and letting DeSantis know that they really are a huge boon to Florida, and what the Mouse giveth can also be taken away. They possibly realized the foolishness of separating the Imagineers and the film division for practical reasons, and didn’t want to lose any more talent to other California competitors. And it may have been a last poke at Chapek, whose tenure wasn’t exactly marked by great things. Closing the Star Cruiser was necessary; what a dumb f*ing idea.
Thank you, you said what I wanted to say only better. You nailed every point especially about the Imagineers being forced to relocate or quit and some already have. Pence and others who want to make this about jobs lost for Florida conveniently forget that those jobs are held by others. This would have meant people losing jobs they’ve held for years vs not getting them. Big difference.
The Floridas Governor is out of control. There’s more important things to concentrate on. He’s going to push Disney out of Florida.
The wasted time and money he spent to make sure the word gay wasn’t allowed in schools. That time and money should’ve been spent on our children SAFETY.
Disney was fine until deathsantis got involved, he is fighting an imaginary world. he needs to focus on real problems floridians are facing, homeowners insurance is through the roof, our roads are crumbling, the beaches are useless with red tide caused by business polution and the list goes on. Get rid of deathsantis and all will be well. Even Charlie Crist did a better job attracting business to florida!
Yes Desantis is having this fight! But lets be real Disney was losing money not because of Desantis. But because of Bob Chapek. Look the Star wars hotel did not last. Plus disney + is in financial distress
The Disney streaming service is having serious issues; the parks division is not. They are practically printing money. And yes, the SW hotel was one of their dumbest ideas in their entire history. Even diehard Disney and SW fans aren’t going to shell out $5000/night for that.
Disney started hemorrhaging money when they started to get greedy and woke. They just needed an excuse to dump the other reject. Financially it makes no sense for the project to go back to Cali. I would be shocked to see that happen. DeSantis put Disney on the same playing field as Universal, Sea World etc. Let’s see how Disney deals with competition now. I suspect Universal is going to surpass Disney within 5 years
The project doesn’t need to “go back to Cali (and NO ONE in California calls the state Cali; only out of state idiots do).” The Imagineering division has always been in California. The move was a Chapek idea because of the huge tax breaks Florida gives to businesses (until they target them foe having the temerity to speak their opinions). It was a very unpopular idea that cost Disney a lot of creative talent; the people with lives and families in California didn’t want to move to the other side of the country.
You would benefit from learning about what Reedy Creek really was, why it was formed, how it benefitted Florida financially, why it wasn’t “a big tax break” for Disney, and how many special districts Florida has – none of which were targeted by the governor. Disney is the largest corporate taxpayer in Florida, far surpassing the other theme parks – who rely partly on tourists who visit Florida for Disney to also go to their venues.
I think both are wrong. I just want Disney to go back to being a place of magic. And it is not anymore. To stay out of things that are political we have enough of that in real life. And DeSantis has now made it personal. It just needs to end. Maybe lock them both up in a room until they can be friends.
Our family loves Disney and it’s our happy place and we spend all
Of our extra money here. But man Disney needs to stay OUT of politics.the gay stuff the pride stuff that’s not for children and I am absolutely not anti gay or proud in any way shape or form! But Disney is a place for children’s and adults to experience Magic not learn about how to be gay or woke.
Ugh what happened to the world we live in🥺
Because some of the kids that go to Disney with their parents have gay parents there is nothing wrong with them seeing gay pride flags or Mickey Mouse clearly celebrating. That there’s different people in the world . Disney has made people in the l g b t q community feel welcomed unlike a lot of places hand I respect that. I like that Iger is trying to bring back disney to what it was before Chapeck. His goal is to try and help lower some of the prices so people can come back to disney and I hope he succeeds. Do I agree that disney should not be a part of politics of course and it all started because of Bob Paycheck . I don’t think they are trying to show gay pride or any of that down or throats. I think they’re just becoming more understanding of people’s rights doesn’t matter. The color religion or your relationships. Disney is still a happy place and I’m glad. I’ve been going for 50 years and I like seeing the change. That has happened with the employees cast members can show. Who they are they don’t have to be this perfect form to be an employee. Before years ago women all had to be a certain size you had to have perfect haircuts your nails how to be a certain way I love seeing the. Diversity in the cast members in wheelchairs making kids in wheelchairs laugh and have fun. That’s the magic showing kids that Hey look. I’m out here and I’m in a wheelchair and I’m working. You can do this too when you grow up. That’s the magic. I was never a big trump fan but I’d rather have him in office than this hypocrite who says hes protecting our children and would never take. The rights away from parents but just signed that legislation. Where does he get off telling a parent how they raise their children he’s a hypocrite.
And an honesty look at all the TV shows these days kids are. Gonna. See far worse on t v or learn it from their friends then what they’re going to see in disney.
Things went downhill when they took rainbows away from elementary school girls and gave them to gay freaks. What do rainbows or pride have to do with deviant sex?

There is no first amendment right that allows a company to threaten to overturn a bill that the people of Florida voted in. Get your facts straight.
Teddy Gingerich
The people of Florida didn’t vote the bill in. DeSantis put it in action and had his legislature pass it. It was never on any ballot.

Yes, there is. A Corporation is considered a person and that “person” has a right to express themselves.
