Here are some corrections… not only did I work there, I was the lead and in charge for years.

    – It was named Frontierland Shooting Gallery, not Adventureland because it was in Frontierland next to the country bear jamboree.
    – While it did use 22 caliber lead pellets, they were powered by air pressure @ 200 lbs psi, with just enough pressure to knock down the metal target.
    – The “guns” were heavily chained down and could only be aimed 20 degrees (If that) either way the direction of the targets. No way to point them in any direction besides the target area, not even the sides.
    – Besides a minor ricochet report once or twice a year, there was never a major injury at the attraction. It is well documented.
    – It changed to Electronic as soon as the tech was available. In the 70’s and early 80’s that tech did not exist. Repainting every night was costly and had it been available, it would have been electronic from the beginning.

      Thank you for the details!

We used to frequent the shooting gallery in every trip with my grandparents in the 70’s. I always thought I was a “crack shot” afterwards because it seemed like I could never miss. It was like picking up that pellet gun at MK magically transformed me into a skilled marksman. It was years later nearly into adulthood that I finally realized my grandmother would have me call out the target I was aiming at before firing so my grandfather would know which target to shoot at and make me feel like I had hit it.
Now, I shoot my own kids targets as they call them out.

That is an awesome memory that can continue for a long time! Love it!

      2. TDB

He didn’t get paid for this article did he?

        1. Doug

No he didn’t,.. the woke media makes these horrible and horrific shootings out like everyone that owns a gun has either done this, are planning a shooting, or will plan one. The 99.9999 percent of legal gun owners distributed throughout America are not violent. It doesn’t surprise me at all that this live round shooting gallery existed, they were everywhere even local country fairs,. Our county fair’s shooting gallery had fully automatic pneumatic UZI bb guns (“machine guns”). Ewoooooooooooooooooooooo! They weren’t even tethered! Noone ever thought of wanting to point them and shoot at other people. It’s a mental problem that we have on our hands not a gun problem.

          1. RCM

This isn’t woke media, this is someone with a chip on his shoulder against Disney. Gotten worse since the DeSantis debacle. Of anything, it’s anti-woke.

          2. Mi Mi

Yes! This has nothing to do with “woke media”! Just more attempts to add to the Disney fire Desantis has started.

      3. Doug

No family member of mine will ever go to that “Woke” place.
I don’t want to have to try and explain why Cinderella has a 5 o clock shadow to my kids.
They need to keep in there lane.
        And it is entertaining folks
        I hope they go broke
I will not spend one penny on anything they are associated with

        1. Jesse

Do you realize how many other companies are subsidiaries of Disney? You’ll literally be cutting off 1/3 of all American entertainment.

Like sports? Say goodbye to ESPN and most

Oh and you’ll just make your kids social pariahs for not knowing anything about anything owned by Disney. All because daddy is obsessed with the contents of other people pants.

          1. dre

True! But kids are smarter than their parents.

          2. Me

What a joke. The right doesn’t cares what’s in others peoples pants. It’s the left that is so obsessed with it that they feel it necessary to talk to children about it, or to confuse children with all this crap, or worse to mutilate children in the guise of “helping” them. The right didn’t care until the left went after our children

        2. Bob

You obviously will not be missed. Thing is the person who wrote this article is clueless and obviously does not research for accuracy. They should be fired!

    2. Joe

      Agree %100!!!
There is no such thing as live lead! A puff of air when you pull the trigger. Guns mounted in a position unable to be maneuvered to shoot anyone. Even if they could be maneuvered the pellet doesn’t have enough energy to break the skin. It’s amazing that you don’t need facts anymore to write a story!

    3. Richard D. Hines Jr.

It’s a weapon and has no place in public!

      1. Mike P

With the exception of Disneyworld and places deemed by law, I carry my weapon
concealed so you won’t even know I have one on me.

        1. mamaof4cats

This article was a waste of five minutes that I’ll never get back! STOP with the “guns” already – worry about the person behind it!! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

        2. Matt F.

Well said, Mike…I do the same, and even CC’d at DW in the past before several times.

      2. Thor

You’re kidding? That has to be one of the most ridiculous comments I’ve seen posted in a very long time!!

      3. Vincenzo

Weapon’s don’t kill people, people do.

        1. Farley

With weapons. Some very destructive and meant only for killing.

      4. Regina

A rock is a weapon, a butter knife at the restaurant you eat at, is a weapon, a purse can be used to choke someone to death, therefore a weapon! See the thing here, ANYTHING can be a weapon in the hands of a person that wants to kill!

    4. Angus

Plain and simple; This “article” is a crock.

    5. Farley

      Yes. You are a p..

    6. CW

      Thank you

    7. Naturally

To keep in modern societal form, Disney needs to drop Frontierland and develop Thugland, complete with drive-by roller coasters, Minnie and her Ho’s, Goofy leading BLM Parades, 3 Little Pigs BBQ, Coal Black & the 7 Crackheads. Think about all the costumes they could show! And the services, like Free Clinic, Gang-Bang Gallery and the game show “Who Yo Daddy”.

    8. I object to the articles title, “Shots fired at Disney”. It’s a sensational title to get you to read the article..which it did but the story line is subjective. Trickery, I suggest to read the article. I am tired of the woke idea, too. Disney will not be the same when they alter the “Song of the South” attractions..ridiculous.

    9. Michael C.

Thanks Jim, that’s how I remember it when I was there in 1972. I was at Tokyo Disneyland about 10 days ago and I did find the Electronic version of the Shooting Gallery to be very accurate hiting 10 out of 10.

  2. CheeseInFL

It isn’t “shocking that something didn’t happen” because Americans back then actually weren’t entitled idiots that are weak in body and mind like the kids today. There were no participation trophies back then.

    1. Lorraine

Yes, there was. I received participation trophies, and I’m 63. I also remember shooting the pellet guns, by the way.

      1. Diane

My husband is 74 & he has a participation trophy in the basement.

    2. odubya23

I’d feel bad about your commentary about everyone who came after the Baby Boom that was saddled with the enormous mess your generation made of the world, but then I remembered that I still have this enormous amount of life ahead of me and your generation is currently dying off. Then I felt better.

      1. Diane

Do you even know when the baby boom was? Obviously you don’t. The baby boom happened when soldiers came home after WWII. It lasted from the mid 1940s to mid 1960s. The majority of them are dead already! Obviously many in your generation never learned how to do math or think logically! If you think your generation is fixing the mess you need to look up the definition of the word fix. Your generation isn’t fixing it. They’re compounding it!! Nice try though! NOT

    3. Diane

Are you saying no one back on the 70s got shot! Get real. As far as the kids today as kids we were all weak in mind & body. Just an fyi for you. ADULTS SHOOT PEOPLE TOO!

    4. Diane

You shouldn’t make specific comments when you don’t know what you’re talking about. They WERE participation trophies back then. My husband has one in our basement!

  3. Dcmann

    Another agenda chasing a story.

  4. Greg

    Yep!

  5. Rroe

I’m truly surprised that with all the “WOKE” crap of late, they haven’t forced Disney to remove the Frontierland shooting gallery. WOKE has taken over Disney and ruined many of the great rides and memories.

    1. Doesn't Matter

      What is “Woke”?

      1. Steve

It’s the new republican fear tactic: means vote republican or we will all turn into cross dressing pedofiles. Before that, vote republican or the police will be eliminated. Or the democrats will take our guns. Or they will turn us into socialists.

      2. Santa

A bunch of snowflakes who call people woke can’t handle life today.

        1. Doesn't Matter

          Ty Santa.
          Best one yet.

        2. Snowflakes are liberals

          1. Doesn't Matter

            GOPs as well.

        3. dee

          True!

      3. Nicole

Please stop with the “woke” usage. It is often used incorrectly when people are trying to be insulting. Just say that you don’t like it when people think differently than you.

        1. Doesn't Matter

          ty…You are correct.

    2. Diane

I’m not one bit surprised a cult member of tfolfg would make such a dumb comment. The guns there only shoot lasers now so why would they remove them?? “Woke” means alert!! Maybe you MAgGAts should wake up sometime & so your brains can come back to life!

    3. Mike

Sshhh! I just made that observation myself! Let’s hope it never gets that insane, although who knows…
As I said in another comment, maybe next we’ll remove the word “gun” from the dictionary. I’d feel so much safer if we did.

  6. Derek Sans

Wow. My wife and I while we do not have any kids we still do enjoy going to the Disney parks every year August. It got me thinking are people using guns at Disney parks too. Supposed to be an area of fun. These guns are getting wayyyy out of hand.

    1. Doug

      Deceptive title, time wasted

      1. Diane

I totally agreed. Over kill on who wrote the titles part!

      2. Linda

Truth! So ridiculous trying to make it sound like there was a shooting incident at MK

    2. Diane

Did you bother to read the article???

    3. Mike

Personally I don’t think “These guns are getting wayyyy out of hand.” People are. Criminals are losing their minds now that they’re going on mass shooting sprees. I don’t know what the root cause is but it’s gotta be drugs. Either these people are taking drugs or their mothers were on drugs when they were born because it takes a real whacko, something seriously wrong in their brain, to wake up one morning and start planning on where and how to execute people. That goes against all basic human reasoning.
People are getting out of hand and losing control, not the tool they choose to use.

      1. Vicki

Okay…want to explain the 84 yr old man who shot a black boy who came to his door in error? Or how about the 65 yr old man who shot at a car turning around in his driveway and killed a young woman? Or how about the guy who shot at the 6 yr old and her family because her bill rolled into his yard? All of those guns were purchased legally. Please explain to me just when a person becomes a “criminal”…are they one before they shoot or after?

        1. dee

          thank you!

  7. Derek Sans

    Oh I know. Crazy.

  8. ElMarco

    Agreed

  9. Dennis

The “woke” cry babies can never tell anyone the meaning, just repeating meatball comments.

    1. Joknows

Woke means being aware of bigoted behavior and being willing to call it out. People who hate “woke” people are worried that their bigotry will be called out on them.

  10. Ann

You should be ashamed of yourself for frightening people with this fake article title, especially people who have been victims of actual gun violence.

  11. Lisa

    Yup!

  12. Doesn’t Matter

What are qualifications this “woke” you are “crying” about?

    1. Dennis

I was just agreeing with you!!!! “Doesn’t Matter”

    2. Diane

Pull your head from your ass ignorant MAgGAt. The definition of it is extremely easy to find. The original definition & the definition of today’s vernacular! It means “alert to racial prejudice & discrimination”! Only nut jobs like you think being woke is bad. Tell us what YOU think it means! If you want to see the opposite of woke look in the mirror!

      1. Doesn't Matter

WOW…OK…since I part of the GOP/Maga followers. I was looking the definition from them. TY…I guess.

      2. I’m proud that I am not woke and never will be

    3. You need to learn English

  13. Diane

Guess what BBs & pellets are “live ammunition”. If you think getting shot with a BB from an air powered weapon didn’t hurt you obviously never got shot with one. They wouldn’t kill you probably but you can surely injure you. Police sometimes use rubber bullets from air powered guns & they seriously wound people with them & some have died from them. Google it. There’s no such thing as a safe gun!!!

    1. Vince

You missed the point that they were using low pressure guns, just what was needed to put the metal targets down and would not cause injury.
Guns don’t kill people, they are inanimate objects.

    2. Mike

Diane… I loved your reply to the little squirt “odubya23” on his comment about Baby Boomers and “the enormous mess” that generation has made of the world. Geeze, I hadn’t realized a generation within the USA had messed up the entire world, I thought it would’ve required some participation from other people around the world to lend a hand. Well, he’s clearly an idiot and guessing by his screen name he may be only 23yo, in which case he still has a lot of growing up to do.
I have to agree with everything you’ve stated so far except for one small item. You stated, “There’s no such thing as a safe gun!!!” Ah, but there is. A gun that is unloaded is safe. A gun that is put away and not being handled by anyone is safe. And a gun that is in the hands of someone knowledgeable in proper firearm safety is also safe.
I hate to bring up this old cliche, but it’s literally true, “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.”
My son made a great comment while I walked by his bedroom one day. He was about 15yo at the time and he had I think 4 rifles in his bedroom and my daughter was 13yo and she kept a loaded .22 revolver in her dresser drawer. Why? Why not. My son stopped me, motioned towards his rifles and commented on how none of his guns had gotten up and walked out of the house and killed anyone. They were free to leave if they wanted to, just like our family dog, yet none had done so. The point is it takes a human being filled with evil intentions to physically pick up a firearm and use it. If not a gun, it’ll be a knife, a hammer or a motor vehicle. The problem lies within our society, we have too many disturbed and sick people walking around amongst us. Perhaps mental hospitals need to make a comeback. It takes a twisted mentality to just arbitrarily walk into a place and start shooting strangers and a special kind of sick individual to walk into a school and shoot unarmed, innocent, helpless children. Guns are no more dangerous than an automobile. Used correctly both serve a purpose. Used by a lunatic or other mentally unfit individual, they become tools used to commit murders. Look up the statistics and see how many deaths stem from from alcohol related motor vehicle accidents and tobacco users there are annually in this country compared to gun violence. The number of gun related deaths are much lower that what you’d think. Yet no one is screaming about removing or banning alcohol and cigarettes. Now I know that doesn’t sit well with some people but the numbers are there for all to see. I personally own 31 firearms and have owned one since age 11. I’m almost 60yo and I haven’t killed or threatened anyone with a firearm except while I was in the military overseas. It didn’t sit well with me then, but it was my job and self preservation was at stake.^ Looking back I think it was such a senseless waste of human life, but that’s another story.
My point is there is such a thing as a safe gun. It either has to be left alone, locked up or in the hands of a competent person.
Violent crime will always exist. When a criminal produces a firearm and starts shooting people or comes running at you with a large knife or you’re life is in eminent danger, do you really think the police will arrive in time to save you? Oh, they’ll try but they can t be everywhere at once so it’s imperative that ordinary citizens have a means in which to protect themselves if they desire. Staying at home with the doors locked is not the answer either.
Diane, sorry this was so long. I wish you only the best, have a great day!

      1. dee

Hi, no guns don’t get up and walk out the house. They’re used IN the house also. Like the unfortunate young people who were recently shot for ringing the wrong doorbell or pulling into the wrong driveway or mistakingly entering the wrong car.

    3. Constitutionalist

So you are saying my finger gun isn’t safe. You better report that it’s unlicensed and it’s deadly.

    4. Thor

Dianne, you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about with regards to guns & ammo! BB’s & pellets are NOT live ammo! Live ammo has a charge or something within the ammo to make the projectile fire through the barrel at an extremely high rate of speed. The play guns at Disney back then fired a BB or pellet with just enough air pressure to knock the metal targets down. The play rifles were chained down so you could only fire at the targets & never at anyone. You can tell by your post you have voted for every type of ban or restriction on gun laws in your area. It’s people like you who try desperately to get all firearms removed from law abiding citizens. Please don’t comment on articles that you have ZERO knowledge about.

    5. Vincenzo

Correction, all guns are safe provided they are owned and operated by safe humans….it’s that unsafe human interaction part that leads to gun mishaps and crime.

  14. Diane

The real danger is nut jobs like you!

    1. Santa

      Says the nut job!

  15. Diane

In the way tRUMPers use it it means alert to racial discrimination & prejudice. MAgGAts are so dumb they think that’s a bad thing. Probably because the are the prejudiced & discriminators. I WOKE & glad of it!

  16. Lindsay

Agreed. The title is in poor taste!!

  17. Chelle

Now when I get asked if I have ever shot a gun, I’m gonna have to say yes! Dang Disney!

  18. Mike

Having been raised in a rural area, I was introduced and taught gun safety at about age 6 with a BB gun. By 11yo I had a .22 rifle to hunt rabbits with. When I finally visited Disneyland I was 12 or 13yo. I remember the shooting gallery and I thought it was the lamest attraction of all of them. The rifles were anchored just as a previous commenter said, it was very restricted, causing a person to have to aim and fire in an uncomfortable position. However, I realized the need for safety amongt a crowd of people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. I’d been to carnivals that used .22 shorts where safety was paramount and I guess I had expected more from a much larger venue like Disneyland. But hey, no big deal, it didn’t ruin my childhood. I didn’t throw a fit or have a temperature tantrum. The shooting gallery just didn’t become my favorite attraction as I’d planned, instead the haunted mansion became my favorite and 45+ year later it still is!
Considering all the horrific mass shootings we’ve been experiencing in this country plus the push on more gun regulations and bans, I’m surprised the Sheeple in this country haven’t been pressuring Disney to remove all gun related attractions, statues, art work and other firearm related references. If it ever comes to that, I hope Disney never caves in to such lunacy. Unfortunately there are some people that do believe that by removing firearms from law abiding citizens and everything even remotely connected to a firearm, that it would make our Nation a safer place. Next, we can remove the word “gun” from the dictionary. (smh) That’s just another example of why it’s so important to be an educated individual…

    1. Kim Cozzo

Mike, honest question and something I never understood … why do you need 20 guns to protect you from an intruder? Why wouldn’t 1 be enough?

  19. Yep, sorry I opened up this feed

  20. What trash writing. You make it sound like there was a recent shooting in Frontierland when it is about operations decades ago. And even that is a lie, as it was designed with safety being a priority. Making an issue when there is none. Horrible, horrible writing following the lying example of Fox Noise.

  21. J Town

What jackass thought this was a good subject line to use in an email blast? Two of them. Unsubscribed and blocked. 🖕🏻🖕🏻

    1. Deb

      Desantis political desperate ploy

  22. James

As someone in Disney world right now. Please change the title of this article…

  23. Jeff

Pellet guns are not the same as shooting live ammo. You need to learn how to word things, If you want to consider yourself a writer.

  24. Erwim

I shot a rifle at Magic kingdom Frontier land all the time! No bullets! The rifles are very heavy and its great when my husband teaches me about guns and gun safety! Especially never holding a real gun in my life as a woman! I appreciate what Disney world does!

  25. Erwim

Most likely you are hearing fireworks!

  26. Constitutionalist

Now pellet guns are “real” guns? What’s next for you anti 2a snowflakes? Labeling rubber band and water guns as real guns?

  27. Jj

100000% agree! EXTREMELY irresponsible! Not the way to get your article viewed! Disappointing @insiderthemagic….the things you’ve lowered yourselves to just to get a click

  28. Paige Morgan Laisch

I worked for awhile in investigations at Disney. This was pre ag check. Gun we’re around the parks for year’s. Real gun. I hate these BS STORIES.

  29. Deb

Sounds like a DeSantis Thang to me. Anything to discredit Disney

  30. Bruce

Articles like this are destroying society.

  31. Sick of woke

Wow Male Karen! What a bunch of BS. You should be banned from the park!

  32. Paula

Has DeSantis, DeSantos ( However you spell that fellas name, they’re both questionable) written allll over it!!!

  33. Scott

I’m surprised that they didn’t include the rifles in the fort on Tom Sawyer Island in this “article”; they make noise and can swivel about 30 degrees. Between those and the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade, it’s chaos!

  34. Carlos "Bumps

😒 gezz luiz 😖 seriously why would ya’ll post something with the tile mentionin a shootin when it was just describing how a ride once was at one many magical happiest places on earth Lol yous really had me there believing a shootin 😣really took place 🥺 then i read the article and it’s good 🥲🤙

  35. I didn’t finish this article because this writer can’t write a proper news story to save his life. Is this a story about a shooting gallery at Disney? Is that what all the “hair-on-fire” hysteria is all about?

  36. Peter Zinia

Those rifles were awesome to shoot as a kid. Saner times. People had the heads on strait & society though it wasn’t perfect was in a better mindset than it is today. Blame that on whoever you want, but it really comes down to family values not being passed on. Also remember how cool it was to shoot real Bow & Arrows behind one of the shops & Knotts. They didn’t care how big you were & it was free! My cousin & I spent so much of our summer days there shooting all day. It got to a point that some of the workers would let us go pull all the arrows out of the targets when they ran out. Why not we shot 80-90% of them. It was open air so there was nothing stopping anyone from shooting one out of the park & into? Never had the urge to do that. Targets were what we aimed for.

  37. Ann

Disney should focus on the kids not on woke policy!
