I am a Veteran in my 70’s and I still live close to a military installation where thousands of vets & active duty live and work and many who have families with kids, grandkids and great grand kids who love Disney. And this change does not sit well with them plus the other things happening. All these things is destroying the Disney families legacy and I do not like it since I am related to Walt, Roy and their two brothers & sister and all their decendents PERIOD

Years ago they quit making a Veterans Day parade, and that was a slap in the face. My dad used to visit every Veterans Day to buy the pin.

  3. Hey Disney, why are you making the parks so expensive only the rich can go? This walkway is just another small step to elitism!

Please consider an alternative to closing the walkway. We are counting on that to help family members who have some health issues get to easier transportation for our next Disney trip. We are more mature retired veteran family. Don’t disrespect military service this way.
    Thanks for reconsidering.

My husband is a 100% service related disabled veteran that can barely get around without a scooter, this being said so many veterans have to use a scooter. On regular Disney transportation (last time we went 2016 and stayed at PORS) only 2 scooters were aloud. Do they realize how difficult they just made it? Not to mention Disney already is one of the few parks that doesn’t offer annual passes on base at a discount. It was bad enough when my son who is in the Army, came home on leave went with us to Disneyland and it was cheaper for ap to bring a friend than for military discount.

  6. I found out about this change after my window to cancel my reservation free of charge. Now we are going to be scrambling to make it to the park and not miss valuable time.

This is an inconvenience, not “disrespect!” Disrespect is the GOP in the House wanting to cut military retirement by 60% in exchange for a raise in the debt ceiling! THAT is disrespect!!! We have more to deal with as veterans than a closed walkway!

FYI, Shades of Green and Army lawyers fought Disney on this for a long time. The also begged for some alternative, like a bridge with elevators. Good old Reedy Creek said that they were the boss and screw the active servicemembers and veterans. The lawyers even explained that some of their guests suffer from PTSD from SERVING and can’t handle enclosed buses. Reedy Creek DIDN’T care because they supposedly NEED 4 lanes to drive into their new Polynesian tower monstrosity because they so need more DVC spots. Disney has become a collection of hotels and resorts with a few aging parks to keep you on property. They’ve built quite a few hotels while most of the Epcot renovations were delayed or cancelled. They continued to build hotels while they stopped on TRON for over a year during covid. Disney wants to build hotels because they can make a ton off them.

Disney HATES Shades of Green. It’s prime real estate and they want it back and are stuck with the lease so they want to make SOG miserable. Disney hates any resort that isn’t Disney branded (even if their own CEO stays off property when he visits!). Ask how many service people have trouble with their tickets and SOG staff have ZERO access to Disney’s system so have to advise them to go to Guest Services and Guest Services tells them they have to go back to the hotel knowing FULL WELL the hotel CAN’T help them.

SOG has almost 100% capacity all the time. They charge generally under $200 per night when The Grand Floridian and Polynesian are charging $500 to $800+ per night for base rooms. (A lot of the military that come in complain about the prices but they don’t realize SOG runs way lower than 50% of Disney hotels.) SOG Disney supports the other Army Military recreation hotels around the world too, so it doesn’t get to update as often while it tries to keep costs down for guests, but Disney wants to drive them into the ground so they can snatch up that sweet sweet nearby land and build more towers for $800+/night.

I had hoped when DeSantis had the state take over Reedy Creek they could have done something about the SOG crossing issue, but Disney screwed over the state with its King’s lives BS. Disney does not want to do right by Veterans or active military. Period.
