I like how you used the term “newfound song of the south loyalists”😂 That’s just kind of funny to me because I’ve never seen that film and neither has so many other people! Most people that wanted Splash to stay are not fans of the film but rather fans of the ride. There’s nothing I can see in the ride that’s blatantly racist – just sayin’!
Don’t worry though I have accepted that Splash is going away but I just think the reasoning for getting rid of it is silly.

    1. Paully

The Movie is widely available in Japan..

      1. Patrick

The Story in the movie “Song of the South is one of the most touching, humanistic ones that any Disney film ever contains. Banning it is almost like…🤷Well,… Harming a Mocking Bird.😉

      2. Beimakkusu

No it is not widely available in Japan. It can be found on re-seller sites but not sold in regular retail outlets.

    2. Steve

Believe me Cal, I’m not worrying one bit.

    3. Alyssa

Totally agree. Actually didn’t even realize it was based on a movie until the announcement to retheme..

  2. anti woke

Good for the people of OLC not bowing down to the nonsense of removing a classic attraction. Too bad it is all the way in Tokyo, at least they are smart enough to realize there is nothing wrong with the ride itself. They just aren’t as sensitive as the liberal left in this country is. They really wont be happy when Trump or Desantis is elected president.

    1. Steven

Remember: Every time you say WOKE, a gay angel creates another Drag Queen.

      1. Jorell

        Stephen—Yess!!

Anti woke doesn’t realize that anti-woke=biggot

“Problamatic movie?” The only puerile is problematic to are the demoKKKrats that owned slaves and voted against Civil Rights. Now these democRats want to keep Black stories silent. The movie was an adaptation of the fake that slaves would passed down and use as insofar for a better life. God forbid that Disney shows this because it demonstrates the racist history and culture of the Democrat Party.

  4. The Mist

You should change your fallacious verbiage to the article from “newfound song of the sound loyalists” to “splash mountain loyalists.” I’ve seen and actually own the movie, song of the south but people aren’t loyal to the movie. They’re loyal to the ride. Get your facts straight

    1. Kathy

Yes agree. I hate the Alice in Wonderland movie, and the book ( both are like nightmares), but I love the ride.

  5. Chris Wood

Good for Tokyo. They don’t pander to a very small minority group, that has way too much time on their hands. They probably silence this group in a fashion.

    1. Kathy

And Japan does t have the black, white slave history either.

      1. Walt

Did you know that some of the largest slave holders of Black Africans were BLACK. Did oyu know that black africans were sold into slavery by….black africans? Did you know slavery has existed from the dawn of time and STILL exists today. Slavery is wrong but this idea that is a uniquely American experience is FALSE! And we along with Britain and France were the countries who ENDED the trade of slaves from Africa. Did you know that we are the only country who fought a war snuffing out the lives of 600,000 of its own citizens to end the practice? Did you know that the Democrat party was the one that supported slavery and the KKK was the militant arm of the party well into the 60’s. I KNOW I lived down south as a northerner and was referred to as a Yankee all the time – and friends of mine were run out of restaurants by these thugs. Facts are stubborn things aren’t they.

        1. Patrick

Many people would refuse to believe that there is a strong argument that many African’s blood lines would have come to an end had they not found a way out of their Continent. The Rulers/Hierarchy there would have seen to it that those not considered valued human beings would have been Slaughtered if not Bartered💯….So is, and has been for centuries.. man’s inhumanity to man.

        2. Dstewart

Chattel slavers of the type where skates were treated like domestic animals was indeed unique. The “peculiar institution” they called it.

      2. Walt

I bet you are equally as upset about the currently slavery still happening today to create your pressure cell phone and EV’s

    2. Marc

Japan also had TV shows featuring performers in blackface into the 90s, so there’s that.

      1. Rick TR

Do you mean like Ted Danson with Whoopie Goldberg in 1993?

  6. Rob

I’m vacationing in Tokyo this year and this article confirmed I’ll be enjoying spending my Disney money in Tokyo and not wasting it in Orlando.

    1. Jorell

      No one believes you

  7. Paully

Tokyo DisneySea/ Disneyland is easily the top Disney park..
Skip swampy Florida and actually save money by flying to Tokyo to enjoy the best parks..
And you’re in Tokyo not Orlando.

  8. M

Hey look Disney, a company that has a backbone and doesn’t listen to 1% woke. There is nothing wrong with Splash Mountain. There something wrong with the woke crazies ruining your company. Wouldn’t surprise me that Tokyo is laughing at Disney. No one wanted this re-theme. This Tiana ride is gonna be an epic failure.

    1. Deitra Pawley

I don’t think it’s going to be an epic failure just because they rethemed it , more people know about Princess and the Frog especially younger people than they do about Song of the South, and there will be a lot of people who just don’t care what the theme is and just ride the ride for the ride itself.

    2. Rick

      Absolutely right.

  9. GA Peach

Sound of the South is a great movie with the best story teller to both black and white children a out funny animals. Nothing racist about it. If you want a copy of the movie, there is an Uncle Remus museum in Eatonton, GA that has the history of the writer and also where you can purchase copies of the video.

  10. Cheryl

I will never go to Disney land again, its been ruined by certain people

  11. Kurt

Get over it. It’s just a log ride people!

    1. Lofo

Probably a good idea these days…. Escape the bullshit. If you’re shuckin out that kind of money for a vacation, who in the hell wants to listen to whiny buttheads that will ruin your very expensive magical experience. Pay attention America, this crap isn’t entertaining at all anymore whatsoever and you are about to get cancelled. Leave people alone.

    2. Lofo

Lol! Right? But oh no, not anymore. Can we ALL GET OFF THE DAMN PLANTATION???? ITS 2023 PEOPLE, GET A DAMN GRIP ON YOURSELF! I THINK ALL OF OUR ANCESTORS WOULD BE A LITTLE EMBARRASSED BY ALL OF OUR BULL COCKY AT THIS POINT. SHAMEFUL.

  12. Abby

I don’t have enough money to go to Tokyo Disneyland 🏰😭😭😭
Anyway, how many people are still around today that really remember ‘Song of the South ‘?
I saw it once at WDW but don’t remember that I became upset over it!

  13. I’m going in October and my five day trip to Japan will be considerably less expensive than my last to Orlando. The dollar is strong against the yen right now. Hotels are very reasonable and park admission is half of what it is in the states. Airfare from Los Angeles isn’t too bad either.

  14. John L Bowman

    And they allow smoking also.

  15. Mason

The best part of this article is the people who are against the splash mountain retheme are called Song of the South loyalists.

  16. Brian F Duchscherer

Hooray for them. This is awesome, and too bad that we did not do the same thing here in Florida. Disney changed (and ruined) the ride even though many thousands of people asked them not to do it!

  17. Sharon

People, and that includes the Disney Company, are being too sensitive. Get over yourselves! Splash Mountain was a great fun ride. The movie may have glossed over slavery and plantation life but it was most likely a way to put it in the past. Let it go! It won’t happen again. Put the ride back and shut up about it!!!!

    1. Rick TR

There are no slaves in the movie.

  18. VacaDad

Glad Japan has their head screwed on straight… Here’s a brief history lesson for all who think Splash is based on the movie:
1946 – Song of the South movie debut
    1986 – Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah Sing-Along Song VHS released (Huge Hit)
1989/92 – Splash Mtn ride opens
2019 – BLM and other leftists look for something to whine about.

The ride was popular bc of Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah music that was even accredited for being one of the greatest American cinema songs ever. Uncle Remus or other characters from the movie are not part of the ride, only characters from his STORIES are depicted. And nobody has ever complained that Amazon still sells dozens of different Brer Rabbit books. I’m betting less than 1% of ride goers have even seen the movie. And why did it take 30 years for people to speak out against this ride?! BC it is not racist! If Remus told stories of Winnie the Pooh or Dumbo, would we be shutting down those rides?
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will no doubt still be a great ride, just should’ve been separate, I mean mountain in the Bayou lol…I will still be singing Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah on the plunge.

PS sorry if these facts hurt any feelings, can’t erase history.

  19. Robin

Ppl running Disney are weak. Most Americans are not. But catering to the weak is what Disney chooses.

  20. jessy

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls,
Would be great if someone were to buy Disney World. Run it just like in Japan. Get back to that family entertainment instead of the propaganda that Disney is pushing now.

  21. Beimakkusu

Oriental Land Company has offered to allow a retheming of the attraction for a price, but it’s too steep for Disney.

  22. Chris

Disney execs make woke changes because the execs are themselves are woke. Corruption from within will run that company to the ground.

  23. Robin

Those who really think splash mountain was racist are weak and don’t know the definition of the word. Disney never should have caved.

  24. Jerry W

As of now, there are no plans to closedown Splash Mountain at Tokyo Disneyland. The OLC has begun to separate their parks from the American parks with individual rides unique to their parks. They have already got their own Pooh’s Honey Hunt, Beauty & the Beast, and Monsters Inc rides. They are remaking their own Space Mountain and by keeping Splash Mountain as it is, they now have their own version of that ride too. The entire Disney Sea park is unique to Tokyo, with few cloned rides from their American counterparts. They have a different themed Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania, Indiana Jones, & a few flat rides. Smart move by OLC to run their parks on their own terms and separate identities.
